I know the father and son team that restored this car here in nz . They’re a masterclass in restorations and that metal that’s passed through their family is nothing short of epic . It’s gone to the right home , well done .
That is one hell of a clean MK3 it looks like it's straight from the factory, you have done really well there Paul, hats off to the guy who restored it.
I was going through some old mags and in Fast Ford Nov 2002. There is RS Turbo tuning stuff. But they did a feature on Richard Longman with pictures of A Datapost escort running no. 44
There were 3 of these Escorts entered at 1986 Nissan Mobil 500 race in Wellington, NZ . Chris Toms and Andrew Bagnall and Jim Clark were the three entrants. I am pretty sure all 3 were classed as DNF. About a year later I delivered the Chris Toms car to South Island (towed it to Wellington) , and drove it onto and then off the Cook Strait Ferry !, including driving it about 1km through the streets of Picton to nearest Motel. Things you could get away with in the 1980s! I would think this is the car you have here in Video. it was number 84 on the door , Red car with CR Packers sponsorship on it. I will have to dig out a photo of it.
What a fantastic car. It's probably had the twin coils changed for a Distributor as it's a group A car and more broader modifications allowed. The standard ECU's ignition curve wasn't modifyable so Longman did a 'Red box' and 'Green box' ECU for when they ran Group N regulations (Rally and Race respectively) and had to keep the twin coil packs in situ.
Very nice, I remember seeing this years ago at an RSOC event, I knew the history as my mate worked for Richard Longmans BITD. Does anyone know what happened to the Datapost S1 RS Turbo, used to belong to Dick Dare from Somerset RSOC, but that was like 20 years ago.
Omg look at the amazing quality of your work guys,I actually thought I was looking at a concors car which just goes to show how good plr really is, love you lads keep up with the fantastic work, krissy ❤
I believe they tuned it as far as they could and managed to get 175bhp out of the cvh , horrible engine ,only responds to forced induction. Richard Longman used to work for Downton engineering, they were back in the day THE place to take your Mini for engine work , Longman left and set up his own shop, probably made the ultimate version of the A series cast 5 port head by inclining the valves at 8° for better flow , its one his engines that powered the 1275 gt clubman car to many wins in the bsc championship..
