I would love to see a series like that. I'd be intetested to see the distillation process of ethanol from yeast captured in the wild too! Useful for making first aid and fuel gel
Want thank you for the information you give. What size pot is that ?? And can you make a run right directly after you clean it all up, or do I have to do the vinegar run?
Yeah, a lot of folks have been told that. It is only partially true. It's true there is methanol in the run, but there isn't even nearly enough to make you go blind. It is also true that beer and wine also have methanol in them.
so I have a 20 gal pot still with thumper. I am trying to figure when I need to use a column or why it is necessary. also is a shotgun condenser a good one to run with a column
My mother made the best tasting wine and Brandy you ever sipped on and she didn't have all the things you modern guys use. My grandma made beer, wine, brandy, rootbeer, etc back during the great depression
@@brianbirmingham1458 you would have to do a double batch or just run the single batch in your still even though it has a larger capacity. I guess you could also just add another 4 gallons of water to it and bump up the gravity with sugar.
Thank you for all you do :) 1st whatever works best for you, but since you’re asking a complete start to finish is my preference EXCEPT for aging UNLESS you want to make a separate tasting video down the road when it’s ready. Just my opinion :)
@@ishcoconut you can, but why do you want to? If you're thinking that will help you get a higher proof I would try to convince you not to chase proof with a pot still.
@StillnTheClear I was of the mindset of maintaining flavor profile across batches of identical recipes. I know I'll never touch above 80% on a pot still, however I was more curious if I'd eventually run into anything close to fouling flavor profile?
Brother if you was to cut a keg and put a 3-inch spool on it how tall can a person go without losing a lot of flavor in gaining reflux? Would a 3-foot with a d flag on top we're talking going to a 3-inch column be pretty good for a stripping run and at what point would you put a bottleneck in it to go into your worm or condenser I am more interested in a 5/8 worm
It is said that popcorn Sutton used yellow corn and other times white corn for his famous recipe. Do you have a preference and if so how was white corn different from yellow corn
@@philsmith3842 my preference is yellow corn, but it probably has more to do with availability with me. Lots of yellow corn in these parts. I do like the white corn though.
3:03 Oooh buddy, just watching you taste your whiskey made my liver water, congratulations 🥃 PS: With a second run through the still with a new mash it will be out of this world. For personal consumption only, definitely.
Me personally i like the longer complete videos as its all in one video instead of jumping around/trying to find all part videos with that being said tho you do it whichever way makes it easier for you. I appreciate what you do with taking the time to show us this wonderful craft an teaching the old ways of life
I wasted $100 on watermelon trying to do a brandy. Didn’t ferment. I used regular sugar as well as a alpha and beta amalaze and yeast nutrient. Bread yeast was my only option at the time so I went with it. Basically no fermentation just 15 gallons of sour stinking watermelon juice.
First thing I did when I bought my Vevor still. Used a 5 gallon bucket & copper tubing. If you don’t have a pipe bender roll it around a piece of large pipe. I will say I outgrew the 8 gallon pot pretty quick and built a completely new still with a 15.5 gallon keg. The old Vevor 8 gallon pot is now my thump keg.
Got your package...Was excited through the mashing got disappointed on my first lesson of scorching.. Waiting on cooler weather to learn some more.....Ty Sir for your video's and your Products
