With the mileage that's on that existing timing belt and components I'd replace everything involved. That's something you want to do every 100,000 miles.
Yeah it's 44k overdue now at 322k. The rust has got ahold of the frame so bad that's it not worth putting anymore money into right now. Strange that the drivers side of the frame is all but gone while the passenger side is in much better shape. I will be replacing it with another Vue or a 2nd gen Prius very soon.
All 4 were sold. The Cobalt's are getting hard to find in good condition at a reasonable price now. The red one was for sale by owner for 7K back in May. Its got to be sold by now.
Lifters clack when the Car's oiling system is Sooo Seriously Sludged /clogged that oil can't even reach the lifters. MUCH bigger engine issue there than noisy lifters. CHANGE the oil and Filter at Reasonable intervals and this 'problem' Never happens.
Thanks for the part #'s man. I just got my driver's side rear one put in and that side of the car looks brand new! Unfortunately in june of 2024 no one has the passenger side rear. Going to hit up a junk yard this weekend to see if I can find one though. Thank you again. edit: oh and the one I got was $112 with shipping and tax. And I am not 100% positive it will work but I have been told about this stuff called 303 aerospace UV protectant. Its supposed to keep plastics from degrading in the sun. I put some on my new molding and we'll see if it has any lasting effects.
Ive got a question...... I'm 41 now and I used to go back and forth from Michigan to Texas every summer.....I don't remember hearing cicada in Michigan during the summer season....but in the past 5 to 10 years I've noticed hearing them in Michigan...imhave they always been up in the northern states?!?!?!?!?!??..or have I just never noticed
I've got a similar problem with a kenmore, The one I have is the freezer on the bottom. it looks like the vent between the fridge and freezer is blocked with ice, so I'm just going to thaw it all out and see if that fixes anything. Thanks for a great idea (:
Man my 00 5 speed w 180k had two stuck exhaust valves so I adjusted rest and cleaned them all. I swapped dizzy, wires, plugs, & it’s still misfiring… mannnn I got it for 1500 and I know it’s worth 4k I gotta fix it!
Live in the Joliet area, do you think you can give me a hand, bought an 2003 for 2k and having this problem don't have time to work on a car but I can pay.
Have to prep. for the same job at a remote location. Trying to gather parts (water pump belt, spark plugs, PCV, manifold to exhaust pipe gasket, etc.) so I arrive with everything needed for refit. Any recollection of the size for the 4 bolts used to attach engine to hoist?
I was 7 in Flossmoor and I remember my grandma picking me up from school and them covering her entire car. I’m 24 now and currently hiding from them lol
All my life I've never seen them emerge. Awesome. Just like mice? They ain't nothing but something else's food supply. They were in the trees just south of us at first. Then we got all directions. 360° of International Harvester winnowing tractors morning, noon, and night.
Made one yesterday. The first sighting was on the 14th, with increasing traffic starting on the 18th. Yesterday, the 19th was the mass exodus. The quiet before the storm I call it. The video is processed but not uploaded yet. Probably tonight.
I was 10 years old at the time the video was filmed. I remember it being bad and thought maybe I had remembered more than there actually were. I guess it really was pretty crazy
You make it look easy . I remember my days of doing that when the setup was far less complicated . These hybrids are great and very functional . Well worth the effort you put in . Great work! You are a hard worker !
Thanks. That was the first time I pulled an engine from a Prius. I can be done faster with two people working, but if you did it yourself it should be in the same time frame as mine.
и не забывайте про самое главное в этом процессе - читать молитвы всё время и в конце последнего цикла окропить батарею святой водой, только так гарантированно ёмкость увеличится, ESR уменьшится , и батарея ещё 10 лет прослужит :)
The first time i have this code, with check engine light flushing and you can feel the misfire car shaking a lot, inturn the cat off, and then back on, no problem at all,but i did remove the spark plugs, clean them with metal wire brush gently, and problem solved, no p1399 for two one year and a half, of course i did replace the spark plug later with new one, but this time, no missfire symptoms at all, but the check engine light start flushing, the cose was P1399, the car is running fine shifting fine, you cant feel anything wrong while driving, but i will check the spark plugs first clean them.or replace them if necessary, and also put bag the OEM distributor, wns rwmive the aftermarket one.
@@thesonofalivinggod6782 basically l discovered multiple problems that cause a check engine flashing light or misfire on any cilynder, first was an engine oil leak on the spark plug, which comes from the valve cover gasket inside the spark plug holes, that fixed by chanching the gasket, The second was the loose electric ignition wire connection that i created myself when i installed the start button system, and also bad battery terminal connection, that got fixed also, in addition i have adjusted the head cilynder valves (they were out of adjustment, but that improve the car idling, no more hard idling), and the last problem is the vacuum leak, which was coming from the PCV valve hose, and the intake gasket, no much, beacuse the car was running fine by increasing the fuel delivery by 14 percent, PCV valve hose has been replaced with the PCV valve and the its bushing or called gromet, but the leak coming from the intake gasket, installing new gasket dosent fixe the problem. I will try to add some good silicone rubber to the gasket to seal any potential leaks.
I have a collection of burnt exhaust Valves caused by spark plug gaps too big. Long spark will be hot and torch the exhaust valve. Keep gap close to .043 and all is well. Good video
Thanks. This was the second RX300 in about a year that I had a burnt exhaust valve on the #2 cylinder. The only thing different was between the two jobs was which exhaust was burnt.
This was the second RX300 I had with this problem in under a year. The only difference between the two were which valves had the hole burnt all the way through it. The previous RX had the outer most exhaust valve burnt (closest to the timing belt) while this one was on the inside (next to cylinder #4). I did not check the valve lash clearance on either repair because of time constraints (both cars had deposits on them), but I believed this was the cause. Adjusting the valves on the 1MZ-FE requires new shims and can be tedious. The hole in the valve may be the result of a lean condition in that cylinder, but I find it hard to believe for this to happen to me twice on the same type of engine in the same #2 cylinder. (I changed the fuel injector on both jobs anyway to be safe) I may post a video of the first RX I did, but it's kind of repetitive and it wasn't documented as well as the second one. The only major difference being the trip to the junkyard to pull the head on the first one. Thanks for watching.
I watched this again because it was at 88 discharge. It had 2 more to go. When I came back out later it was beeping and at 179. I see now that it is Normal and called rebound.
@@local701 wow I did not know that. Ima bout two dive into this Prius thing, especially after seeing the fuel mileage they get, I’ve never owned one but I have changed many an engine and I was like wow these guys did this pretty fast. Awesome upload.
@@local701 I did not know that I’ve never owned one of these or any like it, thanks for the upload for sure I’m about to get one and do this, especially after I saw the fuel mileage they get
Thank you man I was using a Brake Pad Spreader to push in the caliper piston not knowing your supposed to turn it. again thanks for the straight forward video
Man I am having same code and just performed the valve lash adjustments (maybe I should’ve left exhaust ones looser?? Closer to .20 as opposed to .18). It does feel like for me it’s just on cold start- 1st start of the day or a while. Anyhow I haven’t bothered to inspect my plugs yet cuz I had them and all the wires replaced within the last 2/3 years and went with the iridium ones so wouldn’t think those ones would go bad that quickly- but now I have to check them and at least I kept all of the old ones so I’m sure one of those are still good for testing purposes.
After warmup the flashing cel does go away. I may check the tightness on my exhaust valves again as well and just leave them a bit looser…any thoughts ?
Update: 2nd cylinder spark plug was definitely compromised. Did the same thing here- pulling cables off while car running. Also next day when I went to remove plugs and inspect, #2s was TIGHT! It actually had eaten up a bit of the bottom threading I realized after pulling. Hoping cel lights stay off, it’s only day 1 still after this discovery. Disconnected battery to clear light. My bank one o2 sensor code got triggered as well. Hoping it was just due to the misfire.🤞🏼
Excellent video. Discussed all the critical tips, and you explained what you did with the head in the comments. I just picked one of these up for my daughter for cheap. It has the same issue. I wonder if I could find a different head for as good of a price as you did...we'll see.
Pulling a head from a crashed vehicle will better your odds of getting a good one. If you can, you can get the fuel injectors, also just in case they caused the valve burning issue. Good hunting.
I have to pull my engine because my clutch plate/damper went bad and is rattling/grinding bad when accelerating at low speeds. So i'm going to attempt this just to swap the damper and then put the engine back in. Thanks for the video!
@@local701are you in California..? I want to DIY swap out the low tension oil rings on the pistons for high tension ones . To severely reduce the oil consumption Is removing the engine a must?
@@camposvazquez It's best to remove the engine for convenience. The new rings require the deglazing of the cylinders to accept them. If honing the block, the crank needs to be removed. If the crank comes out, might as well put in new crank and rod bearings. If you are getting new bearings why not a new oil pump. The if's can go on forever. A used engine for around $800.00 may be a viable option also. Chicago.
@@local701 thank you... I am glad you answered.... I swapped a JDM engine before but I still had CEL DTC engine codes.. it wasn't 100% compatible with the USDM chassis and electrical harness I will look at your video again...I am in California... Any codes means a NO PASS
