Hey Folks, Marshall here. After seeing the younger generations enjoy youtube I thought it was about time there was a channel dedicated to a trip down memory lane for us many years young viewers. I'm a one man band so i'll be endeavouring to release 2 video per week across a number of topics and interests. If you enjoy a video do please consider subscribing and turning on notifications.
I recall beef stroganoff -- usually we had it on Christmas Eve. Sheet on a shingle -- mystery meat in white sauce served on toast - antipasto if you knew Italians -- Peticia a honey walnut and very light pastry -- Onion dip was always a go to -- shrimp cocktail -- Chex cereal mixed with cashews and forget what the sauce was - I used to work at Pillsbury in the home econ dept and got to try a lot of Bake Off recipes (at 18 I was the guinea pig as inexperienced housewife. A lot of Swedish and Norwegian dishes up in Minnesota like pickled herring with onions - apple kuchen - springle -- quick fried snow flake pastry covered with powdered sugar - Swedish snowball cookies very simple and very good.
party snacks. keep it simple. Anything you could pick up with one hand & eat in one or two bites, Frito's , Pringle's & snack cakes like Twinkies & King Dongs were the real party favorites.
I STILL make most of these items: French onion dip, pigs in a blanket (I use Lil Smokies & Pillsbury Crescent Rolls), cheese balls, I make the rumaki but instead of chicken livers, I use dates), stuffed cherry tomatoes and everyone loves them all!!
Cocktail party - olives, silver skin onions, nuts between 6 and 7:30. Drinks party - cooked nibbles between 6 and 8 when people go on to dinner. Dinner party - two or three courses. Now I’ve made myself hungry, I could just eat chicken liver and bacon right now mmm
Also, my mom always made some weird colored punch in her fancy punch bowl - usually involved lime sorbet, 7-Up, and pineapple juice - and made a molded ice ring in the bundt pan with flowers frozen into the ring. Gross & wonderful.
I was a Baptist but went to Midnight Mass with my Catholic friends. Mostly for the all night food! Mr. Ailor turned me on to smoked oysters. And Mrs. Davis turned me on to scalloped corn and oysters. Thank you both and see you in heaven.
#1 wedding present in the 70's, fondue pot. 24hr salad, very popular pot luck item back then, I love it, the only time I have seen it in 50yrs I made it.
I used to like devils on horseback - they are prunes wrapped in cooked bacon. I make french onion dip with a packet of french onion soup mix and sour cream. Mock chicken dip,was popular, I still make it.

Marshall is obviously a few years older than I am, because I don't remember most of the cereals in the video. I also never knew the Quaker Oats Man's name was Larry.
Every Sunday i make pot roast, potatoes and carrots. And a condiment platter with cream cheese stuffed celery, olives, baby gherkins, sliced tomatoes and quartered onions. Its always polished off.
I’m dying to try it, going to peruse recipes this week and spring it on my partner next Sunday! 😂 I can’t believe I’ve never heard of it, I come from a liver-loving family.
This is seriously taking me back!! My parents were Uber friendly and involved in their college frat and sorror parties and they were epic. I was in charge of carefully hanging the minks. Other coats went to the guest room. My folks asked their guests to tip me!! But the Rumaki and some of these other dishes are epic!! This is when we all found out exactly what you can do with food!!! 🍱
