With LLF being endorsed by so many heterodox bishops, the third province here in the UK has to be created. Thanks for another thought-provoking episode gentlemen, this is one of my very few 'must watch' items each week.
We got rid of the conservatives because we didn’t trust them. I remember the picture of the queen at prince Philip funeral. As I voted I saw that picture in my head.
It is said that Ann Dyer was the Wicked Witch of the South when she was south of the border. She is another result of DEI's failure and the cowardice of her fellow bishops to discipline her. Yet another reason why the Church is declining.
I’ve just subscribed to you show. Do you two like any church leaders. Welby no. Pope no. I liked Rowan Williams. I liked our old Queen. I hope and pray that my king. Succeeds.
Richard Hooker did not mention the three-legged stool. He writes of the importance of scripture, tradition and reason. But his writings make it very clear that the last two are always infused with the authority of scripture. (Your discussion does mention the primacy of scripture.) The three-legged analogy was a later distillation by theological commentators; and it is significant that this happened when Anglican theology was becoming (late 17th to early 18th centuries) increasingly influenced by enlightenment concepts, and especially the increasing primacy of human reason. As you rightly say - that leads us to where we are today.
I’ve just found you guys and you’ve offended me straight out of the gate…OK!! I’m from Stralia and we down under don’t take lightly being “un included”😅”!! So start talking from scripts or ya gunna piss off all of Australia 😢😂😅 and ya channel will end up go’in down the dunny. So now that’s off me chest let’s hear if ya got anything to say. 😬🤣😬
I'm an alumni of Nottingham and back in the day it was considered one of the best universities in the UK. Today they've banned 'Anglo Saxon' and consider undiluted Christianity to be too dangerous to be let loose on the undergrad mind. It's gone a long way since my time and its all down hill.
Secularism devoid of reference to God is "politically correct" today and reaches around the globe. It makes one wonder whether the atheism once associated with Communism has won out.
Anne Dyer will be 68 years old next February, and clearly has no attention of relinquishing her position in Aberdeen and Orkney Diocese, claiming that the decision to drop charges means that "justice has been served" and is due to return to the role on 24 October. It seems astonishing that her determination to continue has blinded her to the reality of the impossibility of providing unity and effective pastoral leadership in the future in that Diocese, having taken it to the edge of bankruptcy
Kevin reports that he got used to being mocked for his beliefs in his younger days and stays strong against it (because God strengthens us!). This made me think:- SCOFFING, MOCKING, RIDICULE & CYNICISM are, according to the Bible, right at the heart of the fall of man, having started at the BEGINNING with the Serpent’s ‘SNEER’ (according to Martin Luther) when he got Adam & Eve to question God’s motives and so to ‘make light of’ God’s words and, instead, trust their own judgement! In the MIDDLE, pointing man towards the Messiah, God highlighted the man who would not ‘sit in the seat of scoffers’ [Psalm 1]….and leading up to the END there will come ‘scoffers’ [2 Peter 3v3]. When Paul advises us to ‘fill our minds with whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent & praiseworthy [Philippians 4v8] , this is so much more than a ‘motivational talk by a life coach’, it is near to the heart of things. I know many people, whose response to a simple love song or love story is to stick their finger in their mouth to simulate vomiting. THAT IS A SATANIC GESTURE! PS When hearing about what is going on in the church today, I am reminded of the opening verse of psalm 79 - ‘O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance: thy holy temple have they defiled…’!
At 2:20 Fowey "Foy" (like the actress) perhaps our non-Scots can work out Hawick and our non-Californians can work out Hueneme, neither sounding remotely like they're written :)
Yes, abortion is indeed their sacrament: it is an outward sign, instituted- by hell, to remove grace. It even includes a real body and blood. But it does not save, it does not bring life, but death; it does not bring eternal life, but eternal death. It is the aping of the Most Blessed Sacrament by the sons and daughters of hell. If you look at Eve, you see that she was the linchpin for the downfall of the original design set in motion by God, you see the same thing right now before your eyes. Just look at the poll numbers and the support for abortion, which is overwhelmingly from women, those born to nurture are now the biggest killers on the planet. Women have killed more people than any war, any regime, any despot. The same target as in the garden: the female. The solution, practically, is for men to man-up, take charge, do their duty to lead. The spiritual solution is conversion to Christ who empowers men to protect and serve the social order, marriage, family and the common good. This is not possible when harpies are allowed to reign, and the philosophical constructs of the day are dominated by the absurd and unreality. In a world where men in dresses claim to be women and get away with it; sanity is not in charge, and surely surely men are NOT doing their job of protecting and leading but instead remain slothfully taking their ease as the world head off a cliff, allowing the perverse and the effeminate no obstacles. As with slavery, this MUST stop. We can do it, or it will be done for us through the crucible of war, famine, and the laying waste of the world. Take your pick. The clock is ticking.
I tried too but gave up somewhere in the boring no. 1, The Knight's Tale. Had I gone on to the bawdy no. 2, - The Miller's Tale, a family incident would have ensued.
At 44 minutes the question if gene robinson hadn’t been made a bishop…….easy. The episcopal church would still be in denial of anything in the Nicene creed anyone wanted anywhere. There would still be unbelievers like Katherine Schori everywhere. You think that hypothetical bandaid would keep things “safe”? Wow. The schism that keeps on schisming has wishful thinking like no place else.
Mockery of the Holy Communion, while I don't like it, as Kevin said, we Christians will be ridiculed, we can only prayer for the strength to withstand the ridicule and persecution and for those who do it. But I am wondering why they do not mock the Muslims for their views on the LGBT+ and other issues regarding women rights? (We know the answer)
@@johnhudghton3535 Not disagreeing with that, but they are being pragmatic and cost saving. They don't have much money as a dying denomination. From all perspectives very tragic.
I hold no brief for Bishop Dyer, but are you a little unfair on her? Has she not done all that has been asked of her? Financial considerations are a minor part of the Procurator’s decision, but he makes much of the delays to date, and in prospect. Aren’t these the fault of the SEC in commissioning toothless reviews? He also hints that even an outcome which proved the complaints on the balance of probabilities might lead only to a rebuke. Furthermore, you are factually wrong to say that she was appointed as Bishop when she was looking for a post after her time in Durham. She was already a Rector in the SEC.
Thank you for the correction on Dyer’s career path. I was mistaken on that point. However i do believe Dyer’s behavior is dreadful. It is all about her
Regarding the new abortion buffer zone law in Scotland, this is in the context of a very left wing devolved Scottish Parliament. There was a so called consultation process prior to its introduction but this was a sham. The churches have been largely silent. The Scottish Family Party have spoken up strongly but they are not represented in the parliament, as have some Christian lobby groups such as the Christian Institute. The conservative parties are not socially conservative, and nearly all Christian politicians have little to say.😢
GENTLEMEN: Your citing of the 'trigger-warning' for 'The Canterbury Tales' has reminded me to mention a ludicrous book of recent 'scholarship' by the Edward Cadbury Professor of Theology, University of Birmingham, UK (and also Professor at Yale!) Candida Moss. Her 2024 book, 'GOD'S GHOSTWRITERS: ENSLAVED CHRISTIANS AND THE MAKING OF THE BIBLE' proclaims this work's 'woke' credentials right away: how could "enslaved Christians" have had anything to do with Tanakh? Thus, in place of 'Bible', the title could, more plausibly, have been 'New Testament'. Having started this ghastly book, I must finish it: but this super-entitled white British woman - who is probably dependent for her existence on the labours of lowly-paid workers today - is obsessed with 'slavery', whilst (ironically) failing to recognise the role 'modern slavery' plays in her super-entitled existrence. As to its scriptural and theological ineptitude, on page 53, we read, "The men selected by Jesus for the project of evangelizing to the Roman world were unlikely candidates for the job." Does anyone see anything wrong with that sentence in the light of Matthew 15:24? Furthermore, if Jesus chose the Apostles for this purpose; what was the contribution of Paul? The book is also peppered with speculation: writing of the 'enslaved', she says, "in the warm homes of Christ followers, we hear their soft footsteps" (p55). I should have known better than to buy a book, which proclaims, on its Dust Jacket, "Monumental and eye-opening" - Reza Aslan! Harper Collins should know better. Whilst Birmingham should know better than to award a 'Chair' to such a poorly-educated 'scholar'. With regard to Anne Dyer (no relation; I hope!) I am so glad that my aged Christian Aberdonian uncle died last year; and did not live to see this ghastly person reinstated in the role of 'bishop'. However, you report her as "fighting tooth and nail" to retain her position: and this is what you get with a hierarchical system of 'career-clerics'. Everybody wants to be a bishop! Acclamation plays no role in their 'ambition': nor does the Holy Spirit. You even relate how Anne Dyer was appointed, rather than acclaimed. May I suggest that - before you clerics set out to reform the 'love-lives' of your flock - you reform your own House; so that - as far as possible - you protect the flock from 'wolves' like Anne Dyer.
I suggest you compare how bishops are chosen in Britain with how they are chosen elsewhere in the Anglican world. Even grassroot participation is no insurance against a bishop's going wrong. Perhaps the vulnerably lies in what is done when a bishop errs grievously. The ACNA seems to have had success in its church courts.
I smiled when you mentioned a particularly English pronunciation of “Fowey”. It reminded me of my father, who was in the Law, and loved telling the apocryphal story about a court room discussion here in Australia between judge and barrister. It was at the start of the case, and the judge was giving a direction involving one of the parties - a Mr Cholmondeley. His honour referred to the man as “Chol-mondeley”. The barrister respectfully interrupted, saying “Your honour, my client’s name is pronounced Chumly”. The judge stared at him for a second or two, and replied “Well I suppose Mr Bottomly would be referred to as Bumly!” The joys of English🙂🙂
Dyer off the hook!? What a thorough and utter disgrace. There is an English counterpart who is getting away with similar behaviour too. Liberal managers ( for they are not leaders) in the church are beyond the reach of justice. You are so right about double standards in the C of E.
Mention of William WIlberforce's connection to the abolition of slavery was made. Wilberforce, a member of Parliament, an evangelical Anglican, began to work for the abolition of the slave trade in 1787, culminating in the Slave Trade Act of 1803. Afterward, no longer a member of Parliament, he supported the Abolition Act of 1833. However, abolition was astir in the North American colonies earlier. The Quakers who came to West New Jersey in 1674 and Pennsylvania in 1683 opposed slavery. The Mennonites, who began coming to Pennsylvania in 1683, also opposed slavery. It is not surprising that during the Revolution, on March 1, 1780, Pennsylvania lawmakers declared African American children would be free when they turned twenty-eight.
Kevin said that there are no more Church Wars. There are stil Church Wars, but they have just taken a new form. Church Wars are quietly occurring within the ACNA and the Anglican Continuum.
Yes! There are shenanigans within the ACNA. The Lord has not seen fit to provide the current decades with independent reporters who can do the actual journalism. No shade on Kallsen and Conger+! They already have full-time jobs. But I remember when there were multiple people who could and did attend the conferences and consecrations and conventions and ask bishops if they had any comment for the record. Edit to add: and it wasn't the garbage the RNS produces.
It seems toleration is called for issues not "requisite or necessary for salvation." There are, nevertheless, people who will seek to dominate, thinking their perceptions are sacrosanct.
@@royquick-s5n That is an insightful observation. The abuse of this toleration cuts both ways; within the ACNA there is an insistence that toleration for egalitarianism, and of continuationism on the spiritual gifts. Within the Anglican Continuum there is an insistence on toleration of Anglo Romish liturgical innovations.
@@thomasyeutter1112 In your perception there is egalitarianism and continuationism on spiritual gifts, which need further explanation on the meaning inferred. How are they related to what is "necessary and requisite for salvation"? Mt 7.12 might be applied to egalitarianism. What some regard as liturgical innovations may not be new, innovations, at all. The reception of both kinds, new to RCs, was practiced in the Early Church. Anglicans returned to it about five hundred years ago. Standing to receive was practiced in the Early Church; it is practiced now generally by RCs, not Anglicans. Anglicans also returned to the use of the vernacular language of the participants about five hundred years ago, the RCs fifty or so years ago; it was the practice of the Early Church. The ritual added or developed since the Early Church may be viewed as innovation and variable.
@@royquick-s5n In the ACNA orthodox low churchmen are discouraged from discussing why they believe that the Bible teaches, and the tradition of the Church teaches Complementarianism. They are told such discussion is divisive, and advocate for a moratorium on women's ordination. They are told that whether you believe that the ordination of women is Biblical or confessional is a secondary issue and that you should not insist that which is not "requisite or necessary for salvation." In the ACNA cessationism is not an acceptable position. Cessationism is frowned upon because it necessarily implies that extraordinary gifts of the Spirit are inauthentic. Those who Anglicans who are critics of Alpha courses on the grounds that it is weak in what it teaches about the nature and extent of Biblical authority are not really welcome in much of the ACNA. Again critics of continuationism are told that their position is divisive, and are told not to insist on anything that is not requisite or necessary for salvation. Most jurisdictions in the Anglican Continuum are almost entirely Anglo-Catholic. Most Anglican Churches in the Continuum use an Anglican Missal rather than the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. Those parishes in the Continuum that practice old High Churchmanship or reformed Low Churchmanship and celebrate Holy Communion according to the pattern provided in the 1928 or 1662 Book of Common Prayer they are sort of tolerated. But they are criticized for using Ordo Kalendars that do not include Marian feast days. When much of the Anglican Continuum sought to have closer relations with Old Catholic bodies like the Polish National Catholic Church, the old High Churchmen's questions about the orthodoxy of the Polish National Catholic Church were very much resented. In the Continuum, and in the Reformed Episcopal Church, and the Free Church of England, the Old High Churchmen insist that everything necessary for a proper celebration of the Lord's Supper is provided for in the 1662 and 1928 Books of Common Prayer. The 39 Article reformed low Churchmen and old High Churchmen insist that all of the innovations that the Anglo Catholics insist upon provide nothing that is necessary or requisite for salvation.
Feminism is one of the most insidious culprits in the growing apostasy of churches. Church leadership roles were designated in the New Testament, but worldly ears itch for a different message. There's more to church disintegration than that, of course, but it's a major issue.
brjimbo1 I attempted to suggest an answer, one that may be realistic, as well as humorous, but it was deleted (by Kevin? George? or RU-vid?) . I will attempt again. An explanation for Islam's preferential treatment where violence has occurred, e. g. in the U.K., may be a political party's goal to acquire as many votes as it can. Is the observation too close to home for someone?
Your comments comparing the fight against slavery and the fight against abortion are right on. There is a big difference. The slave can hope to be eventually freed. But to the innocents whose lives are taken in the womb, all hope is extinguished with the taking of their lives.
@@jm9673 I also believe this. But this hope does not relieve us of our moral responsibility for permitting and even promoting the taking of the lives of innocence. Israel was judged by God for passing their children through the fires of Molech. "I fear for my country when I recall that God is just."
@@terryhemingway6983 I never for one moment was suggesting that it does! Of course not! I was simply responding to the forlorn comment that the situation of an aborted baby was hopeless. It is anti-Christian to be without hope.
1. At least last week George didn't pronounce the town Foy as 'phooey'. 2. Those at the University of Nottingham who added a trigger warning to Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales should be exiled to nearby Sherwood Forest with only a cup and saucer to face Sir Robin of Locksley who'll be wearing a hoodie. 3. George at 28:50-58: "Well, she goes up to Aberdeen ... and she carries on the same management style being a real SOB." Response: Wouldn't the more accurate term be 'a real DOB'? 4. George at 30:13-25: "This of course has caused the victims, the clergy in Aberdeen, Orkneys, to go bananas because they're getting the Wicked Witch back, and is she going to take her revenge on the people who had her suspended?" Response: They'll know for sure when they see written in the sky 'SURRENDER DOROTHY.' 5. However, I pray that the Bishop of Aberdeen and Orkney does not become 'Anne of a thousand days' and 'Dyerly'. 6. Even though Michigan Governor Whitmer's communicant received Doritos on the tongue, at least she was not offered a chalice filled with Tostitos salsa sauce. 7. Besides being defective in both form and intention for confecting a feminist eucharist, Michigan Governor Whitmer's latest stunt was as unappetizing as picking the coconut-filled chocolate selection from a Whitman's Sampler. 8. 1 Corinthians 11:27 (NKJV): Therefore whoever eats this bread OR drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body AND blood of the Lord. 9. A troll is someone who intends to antagonize you not merely someone who antagonizes you. Most of the people who disagree with your theology aren't intending to antagonize and therefore are not trolls. Bless your hearts.
@@royquick-s5n That's the definition of a troll. But as always by your definition, and especially with theology we have semantic drift. Words are like that. Love is not. Forgiveness fatigue is a very real thing. Sexual minorities, blacks, jews, womyn, "witches" and "liberals" with whom you disagree , indigenous populations and other non-eurocentric christians know this feeling.

Question is where Rome will be on traditional biblical morals, after the 2024 Synod and Pope Francis's additions to the College of Cardinals. Will "orthodox" Anglicans want to be in communion with a denomination differing little from the Church of England and TEC on morals? Or is it just an issue of liturgical compatibility?

When I was in seminary I lived for part of the time in Abbeville, South Carolina, which has a lovely old Opera House and some great productions. One afternoon I bought a ticket for a showing of Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Indians" later that evening and joked to the lady taking my money that it was politically incorrect and should be "Ten Little Native Americans." I thought I was being funny until she told me the original title as noted by George. I have a bootleg copy of Song of the South.
