I just realized, these aren't technically speaking the mass production type A types. These all are Type B Gelgoogs, the High Mobility Gelgoog that got the extra boost from its backpack.
As I get older, my appreciation for all the other mobile suits increase, and I absolutely *LOVE* these chunky boys. Also, some really good design elements, like the tracks on the front for faster speeds and keeping them low to the ground so that they don’t flip over, the disengaged weapons ports once they’ve been emptied, and the combination of heavy artillery combined with anti-personnel weaponry. Good stuff.
In the origin manga, we see guncannons being deployed as the Federation’s main grunt suit before the introduction of the GM. They’re mainly outclassed by Zeon’s suits in space, but are decently affective when it comes to earth combat.
This whole scene happens so fast... and so compact I had to watch it again before finishing the OVA. Some of my favorite old school universal century Gundam.
In case no one noticed, Char dumped his shield and left it on the battlefield. His shield contains his beam saber and missiles. Probably not a idea to leave it.
