Hi, my name's Terry Kent and I'm a private pilot based in the UK with a passion for all things aviation. Currently I fly a small single engined Pipersport out of North Weald in Essex. I have created this channel as a resource to share my videos of take-offs, approaches and landings at the airfields I visit, many being tricky short grass fields with little information elsewhere, I also do equipment and flight reviews and anything private pilot related. Thanks for viewing and I hope you found this channel interesting and helpful and I hope you would look at subscribing so as not to miss any future content. Thank you and fly safe!
Full Circle. 53 years ago soloed a J-3 Cub. USAF F-4E & A-10, American Airlines Captain Boring 767, Retired built Rans S-21 and flying it. Best memory ever Solo J-3.
have you flown into sibson? good airfield, tricky landing if coming in on 15/33 (short rw) and 06/24 you have pylons on final or trees right on the edge! deffo worth it if you havent already.
We shared the runway but manned aircraft always have priority . I announced my departure and intentions and the modellers did have a radio. Sketchy, yes, my fault, no. Thanks for the watch and comment 👍
Fab little video. Looks like a fun adventure, the model aircraft are amazing. The little piper sport sounds almost like it’s electric as you build speed on the runway. It’s a really gentle sound compared to the aggro from the piper warriors I’m more familiar with.
I just looked at a couple of recent flights in my 912iS LSA and saw 10 minutes to 7500, 14 minutes to 10k. I can find some others in that ~15 minute range to 10k, which is interesting, I'd never thought about it in that way. crisps were only rated to 9000!
Lovely outing! As a student pilot and former model airplane pilot, I'm amazed at seeing models and full size aircraft share a runway. I used to fly models at an old air force field that was also used by towed gliders, but we'd use the taxiways and they had the runway. Even so we had a radio to coordinate operations when necessary.
Had my 2nd flight in my life .having control of stick n rudder at the same time is amazing.. love to learn more..am so envious of you & your little cruiser x
I am 80 years old and was wounded Vietnam 1969 and came home a paraplegic. After all the hospital months were gone and I was back home again I met a guy who offered to give me a ride in his Cassina 150. As we were flying, he told me about a plane that I could fly because it had no rudder pedals and was called an Ercoupe. I started hunting for an Ercoupe and found one for sale for $2800 dollars this was in 1973. I bought the Ercoupe 87101 and then started looking for someone to teach me how to fly it. I was turned down by two FAA flight instructors but met a guy a little younger than me who was a flight instructor at a little country airport with a 1500 asphalt runway and a 1000-foot grass runway too. I figured out a way to pull myself from my wheelchair along the wing walkway and then up into the cockpit. I soloed in eight hours and went on to get my license and flew for over ten years. I lost my medical card due to high blood pressure about the time are son was born in 1986. I didn't try to fight the FAA and let flying go after some really great years. My mother naturally worried about me flying. When I sold the Ercoupe I told my mother that I may not be able to walk but I have soured with the Eagles. Greatest years of my life and Leonardo da Vinci was 100 percent right.
Hi love the videos, have you been to wadswick farm airstrip yet? its definitely worth a visit, it's got a challenging approach, but also a restaurant (even though its an airstrip). its becoming more and more popular due to its unique location and its restaurant
Watching this video on Memorial Day 2024, I find myself thinking of Lancasters, Spitfires, Hurricanes, Typhoons, Mosquitos, etc. taking off from fields like this, and the far too many young men who never came back. Dang, getting a little misty. Thanks for a beautiful video. Cheers from Arizona!
Great video thank you for posting, I owned a SA Bulldog IO 360 for many years. Now have a near completed Rotax powered K7 taildrager. Seat of the pants flying that costs a fraction of the GA price and it gets into any bush strips, paddocks and beaches.
Visited Deenethorpe quite a few times and did a stop off on my QXC there. Last time there was the annual mini meetup and photoshoot on the runway - there always seems to be something interesting going on.
I love your videos. Being a relatively new PPL holder i enjoy watching them Did my training in the cruiser. Now I am flying the Bristell B23 with adjustable prop also a great fun aircraft. Keep up the good work.
Always a good welcome from Deenethorpe; been there many times. There is a parallel grass runway now alongside the hard. The World Microlight Championships will be held there in the summer which should be good to see
That's what I call real flying. Grass strip, taildragger. The only aspect not represented is a biplane. Thanks to the algorithm for dropping your video into my feed. 🛩👍
I find it quite disappointing when I watch footage from my camera when I can see other aircraft in the sky. With the naked eye, they look really close and obvious but to the camera, they are tiny, insignificant specks.
As always, very enjoyable to watch. Some of those models can be huge. We have a danger area near us that has a runway just for the models to fly off. Almost looks long enough to land on from the air. Never actually asked how long it is.
Thank you Terry. 6am here in Sydney, hot mug in my hand and about 15 mins of wonderful aviation viewing to enjoy before getting on with my work! You really do put together a great story - love the history and the airspace/airfield overviews - production is superb. Really makes me want to return to flying when the kids are earning their own $$!! Cheers mate from Sydney - David
Nice of you to take your pet fly with you on the outward leg. However, it seems you left him at Deenethorpe. Never mind. He could always fly back home :)
😂😂😂 I did notice that and remember seeing it on the canopy at the time, however I never kill anything that flys while I’m flying, it might be bad luck 😂😂👍
@@ShortField yeah I just feel that the wind isn’t the only consideration when taking off downwind at uncontrolled airfields. It sounded like there was a lot of GA in the area too which could’ve been making an approach to the airfield on the reciprocal runway, could’ve been nasty.
Nice to see Deenthorpe from your point of view. I fly model jets there too with the awesome guys from the JMA, jet Modelers Association, and yes I have crashed there Too :-)
Love the drone shot with the car AND the plane landing! At 03:35 you said flaps can come up. I'm not a light aircraft pilot, but I was surprised you said that considering how low you were. Is that a common thing to do?
Lovely! You're spot on about the lighter evenings - now just need the weather to match them 🤣 Some really stunning RC models there, although the price tag of them is a tad eye watering!
I love your videos, being in the USA it takes some getting used to the language on the radio, terminology is quite different. I’ve never done grass strips, so I find your videos informative!
I have see and even flown a terbine model jet (not one I owned), I have a couple of electric ducted fan aircraft that can still do over 100mph and as they are smaller that the terbine jets can get out of site very fast.
Hi Terry. Fun conversation once at EGSL in a busy circuit.. female pilot in a slower aircraft about to turn base with another faster one downwind asking "do you mind if I come inside you?" Much amusement in the club house of course... 🤣 Flying can be so much fun!
@@ShortField I do believe it was😁 All in the best possible taste, of course.... more than 20 years ago now and was entirely innocent and taken in good humour...
Was that "fly" in the cabin really annoying? It is not something I have ever thought about until I saw it - Do you have to just put up with these pests until you land and let it escape?
😂😂😂 I did notice that and remember seeing it on the canopy at the time, however I never kill anything that flys while I’m flying, it might be bad luck 😂
Very cool Terry, I've, like most, built and flown model aircraft (not the posh jets I hasten to add) it's not 'IF they crash but WHEN they crash' heartbreaking after all the work and costs. I do love the large scale stuff though, I've a friend who used to fly a large scale Extra 300. A lot of model fliers I've known have become PPLs. Can I just ask, as I'm a bit confused, is your Sports Cruiser, 600kg? If so, what licences are required to fly such now - Eg can they be flown on a NPPL(M)? Thanks in advance and for another great video, I always look forward to them👍💜😊✌️
Thanks for your always supportive comments. You can fly the SportCruiser on an NPPL in the UK only, however you need the SSEA sign off even though microlights have increased to 600kg.
@@ShortField You're always welcome Terry, great videos😊✌️💜 Thanks for the info, I did wonder if that was the case - bit confusing isn't it. I think that there might be a move to ease/simplify the bureaucracy of going up through the ratings🤔 I was also pondering - did the model fliers have a radio scanner to hear traffic movements (rhetorical question)🤔
Nice one Terry. I started out flying model aircraft many moons ago. Things have moved on a pace since then. I’m hoping to fly into the Weston Park model Airshow in a couple of weeks. Great video. I notice you left your engine running 😉
