Update: It never worked well in my Airstream. It would consistently freeze over. I replaced it with a Houghton AC that is great. I have a video on that as well.
Thanks for the reminder that this is easy. That said, I've used shoe goo and it gets dry and crusty at the edges. This time I had a massive repair (the entire sole came off) and so a cobbler video recommended contact cement. It took some care, with thorough prep (I wiped the surfaces clean with rubbing alcohol) and some planning on how to keep the sole and cloth separated for the parts that were just edges or toes...and then being careful as I reconnected them, since contact cement bonds instantly so there's no moving it once you've joined them ... But I think the result is much better! I'm hoping it will last longer too.
Do you know if the upper material is a blend or faux wool/hemp (depending on the model)? Their website uses dubious wording. Polyester wool and polyester hemp respectively. Not poly/wool blend, for example, like most companies would say. I am just wondering if the wool models are reinforced with polyester or if they are polyester felt that is meant to mimic wool. Which would go against the whole premise of the shoe.
The VFF are the best shoes I've ever worn. They have done more to correct my problem feet than any doctors or expensive shoes and orthotics. My comment is this: the best runners in the world heel strike. When running in barefoot shoes you should still heel strike but you should do it lightly and skillfully. Hitting fore-foot first is a fad and will cause bodily damage over time. That doesn't mean that there's not times where you need to strike the front of the foot first, as in mountainous trails, put in general heel strike lightly and round the foot, don't slap. That's my two cents. Excellent video thank you very much.
@RevRunRegan , Hello. My English is bad, sorry. Please tell me how many millimeters your foot is? And how many millimeters are your Vibram KSO Eco? And are you wearing socks? Thanks for the review, I want to buy exactly this model!
Hi Reagan, one trick you can use to paint over silicone caulk is to apply a paintable caulk, like Dynabond 230 over it. The Dynabond will bond pretty well and will avoid having to remove old silicone caulk that is in good shape instead of tearing up the walls getting it off. Thanks for the videos.
Hello Reagan. Great video on the renovation. I just found your channel and have enjoyed following along on your Airstream updates. We are doing similar updates as you (axles, AC, cabinet refinishing, tires, ect.). Have you tackled the exterior trim strip replacement yet? We have similar fading as your trailer since our's is also a 1986 Airstream , but is the 27 foot Soverign.
I haven't replaced the exterior trim strip yet. I am intimidated by that job. And we need to do quite a bit of work on the exterior to make it look good again. But last year we bought a house and I ended spending my time renovating the house and ignoring the Airstream.
Have you ever tried the Komodo of KMD LS? They need to make galoshes. They need to make pull over sleeves that hook on the toes and covers top of the feet for when you take your significant other out for a classy evening. My late wife would've liked that. I compromised and wore dress shoes or dressy cowboy boots.
Hey awesome job on the shower and bathroom !! As it turns out, mine is the same !! Exactly except the second bedroom door ... (which is so wild and awesome btw) so I love the content of your updates and have lots of questions as I’m getting into renovations slowly. Is that vanity mirror /light in three bath the original one? Just painted ? Mine has gold trim and doesn’t seem to be able to be painted. Also the product that you said you wouldn’t want to do again , could you please put a link for me for that stuff? Thanks again and happy camping! 🙏
That's awesome. Yeah, the vanity mirror is original. We just painted it and bought led bulbs. We used the Homax brand tub & tile refinishing kit. It was fine. Other brands may be better, but it seemed to work okay.
Also any tips on installation would be great , I have a Coleman that appears to be original and can’t get it to heat or cool and I’m wondering If an upgrade to the quieter one would be ok or is it a nightmare to change out ? Thanks
Honestly, I just watched a few youtube videos on installing a new AC and it was pretty simple. The worst part is getting the unit on the roof. But I'm happy to answer any questions I can.
Hi there is your airstream an 86? I’m loving this vid, real helpful and thank you in advance. Was the conversion hard? I have some questions if you wouldn’t mind-
Sorry, I don't know how I missed your question. Yeah, mine is an 86. Putting in a new unit was surprisingly simple since it's already set up for an AC. Feel free to ask whatever else if you still are interested.
I just purchased the V-Trek insulated for winter wear- contrary to popular belief it does get cold in NC. I’m an F3 groupie and our bootcamps are at 5:00am. I recently switched to Vibram from another minimalist shoe brand and didn’t want to have switch to something else just because of cold. I’ve worn them a couple times so far and the insulation helps to keep my feet warm without having to add socks.
Hello, would you tell me how often do you wash them and are they really smelly, how some other people are saying? Do the socks help with this? Have you wore V Fivefingers with waterproof/resistant socks?
Thanks for the video! Was just about to open a return for my pair of Fivefingers I got on Poshmark. But the seller would just throw them away and all they need is a little glue.
Here in Kansas we have a fair amount of days in the single digits or below zero fahrenheit. It's not as bad as more northern states, but it's real winter.
my first of vibrams. super minimal, had to train my feet and adopt an entirely new walking technique. but overall 10 out of 10. just be careful and give your feet time to adjust
Hi and what do you mean by new walking technique? I’m new to vibram and I notice that there is a lot pressure on the heel, maybe there is a way to avoid it..
I've used Vibrams for 9 years and discovered the same problem with the toe issue. I use a sewing solution called 'Fray Check'. It's a clear solution that comes in a little dropper bottle at a fabric store, that when dry makes the material fray proof. Now my toes never wear out, now,!
I love those blue & orange Vtrail 2.0’s and unfortunately I cannot find them in my local stores here in Australia. Nor can I get the Vtreks in the military colours. If they had those to models in those colours you hate, I actually love & would buy them today if I could.
Thanks for the video! What style are those VFF’s? Now after seeing yours I want to try and find a pair 😂 plus I have a few I need to Shoe Goo! Thanks!!
I've ran in vibrams for years, never had any issues at all with durability, in fact my v-runs are now getting close to 3,000km and they still look like new after coming out of the washing machine and there's still at least another 1,ookm on them I reckon.
I think for walking I would suggest the same ones as running. V-Runs have that little bit of foam that would probably help in walking and would go with them unless you really want the super minimal sole of a KSO Evo.
Hi, I live in a tropical hot and humid weather. And it rains almost everyday. I want to buy my first pair of barefoots and im really interested on the vff. Which model would you recommend? Im looking for something breathable and comfortable mainly.
I’m probably late to this comment, but if you haven’t bought VFf’s yet, you’d be best with the KSO classics or the V-aqua. They both will set out quick as they’re made from materials that are meant to go into water.
Great review. I live in Upstate New York and I'm looking to get me a pair of winter five fingers and this review really helped me decide. Just wondering if youbstill recommend the same ones since it's been posted a year ago. Thanks and YHWH bless you guys
Thanks for the comment. Yes I still recommend the same ones for winter. They do have some new Eco Wool models that may be a good casual fall/winter shoe too, but I haven't tried them.
How are they holding up since you bought them? Also Vibram said I can use them for training too. So I was wondering if that was true if the soles were lasting long?
