Welcome to Life Skills 2 Learn! I am a certified speech and language pathologist, children's book author, book blogger, and podcast host. I have been writing articles for over 10 years on my website, published 6 children’s books, and created a board game and workbook for children with special needs.
AAC Parent Training Video Series is for parents, caregivers, and educators. These videos have been created to help parents implement AAC at home and in the community. These videos are also ideal for staff training and can be used to help implement AAC in the classroom.
Are you looking for functional and age-appropriate videos to help your students learn life skills? My playlist, Life Skills for Teens and Adults with Developmental Disabilities can be used for both teletherapy and in-person instruction. They are also ideal for asynchronous learning. Check out my new playlist Life Skills for Teens and Adults with Developmental Disabilities with voiceover.
Love your videos! I work as an SLPA and use these all the time. Can you maybe do one that talks about emergency situations? Fire, Flood, health etc? That would be super helpful!
Thank you for your feedback. I am working on getting the videos a voice-over because I understand the need. I will be creating a new playlist with the voiceovers so stay tuned!
Thanks for the feedback! I am working on creating a playlist with voiceovers. FYI, I use the videos and pause on each slide. I either read the sentences for my clients or ask them to read it depending on the individual.
I love all your videos! I use them often with my high school students preparing from post-secondary transition. Can you do some videos for the upcoming holidays? Also, I would love one for dinner table etiquette. Thanks!
I would like to ask that you please make this and others you make accessible to people who are blind and visually impaired by having everything on the screen read out loud and for Deaf and hearing impaired people by having things that are not written closed captioned. There are AAC users and those who support AAC users who are Deaf, hearing impaired and blind and visually impaired who would love to learn from your videos. Thank you very much.
@@peaceofapuzzlebfg hi! I have added a transcription in the description above. I will be adding them all of my videos for this playlist. Hope this helps! Thank you!
Thank you so much!! that means a lot to me! My hope for my videos was to provide a resource for educators and therapists. Please let me know of any other topics that would be helpful to you.
I would like to ask that you make your videos by adding speech to the videos. This video would not be accessible to Thank you for making sure that all who wish to learn about AAC. From a part--time AAC user who also supports AAC users who is legally blind.
Hi! Thanks for all of your ideas! I have been working on creating a recordings page to make the videos accessible. The page is here...languageduringmealtime.com/aac-parent-coaching/aac-parent-coaching-recordings/ I hope you find this helpful. I will be working on getting all of my videos created into recordings over the next week or so.
This is a nice video. You've captured the main points of the Descriptive Teaching Strategy as originally defined by Bruce R Baker. It is aligned with what I've been teaching for the past 20 years. Keep up the good work.
Great video. I have one request, could you please read what is on the screen. I am legally blind and had to keep stopping the video and enlarging it in order to read it. It would be impossible for other people who are blind, visually impaired or have disabilities that make it hard for them to understand or read printed text. Thank you.
