I still don't understand why Nintendo never made an emergency balance patch just to fix Steve after the patches were discontinued. Just one patch that would fix the bugs and change how Steve has way too many free interactions in some way. But nooooo.
I think the problem with mine-cart is that it can be a hit-box or projectile command grab. If it were either or, it would be good but not super broken. Making it both was an oversight. I think it should just be a grab because that matches its design in Minecraft, but you cannot ram someone with a mine-cart in that game.
8 minute timer is way too long. There are like no timeouts, and that's not a good thing. When timeouts do happen, they always suck because it's always the result of a full 8 minutes of camping.
Well after hearing this video's thoughts on steve here's how I would go about nerfing him: 25% less HP on all blocks Iron is 33% less common when mining diamonds take 50% longer to acquire (either that OR he does not respawn with them once dying) overall damage bonus of diamond tools reduced by 5% Minecart costs 2 iron. Steve respawns with 1 less iron. Part of me thinks this will just exacerbate the campy behavior but I also hope that in theory it would give people more opportunities to approach and would also force steve to be less liberal with spamming his overpowered moves, with the reduced block hp making it easier for most to break down the wall(tm) and approach before steve can get too much mining done. Just some food for thought.
1:47:30 "[...] a lot of top players have proven that their character can not only beat Steve, but also win entire tournaments." For the record, acola has won 5/6 tournaments he's entered in the last six months. Not saying this proves anything about Steve, considering this is far from the most dominant tournament string we've seen in Smash, but the claim that many people can win tournaments against him is more debatable now than ever.
Steve placing blocks makes me unsure how to feel about if he should be banned or not. If they are willing to ban stages for things like a cave of life or an unfair layout, Steve being able to recreate those situations whenever almost makes it feel like banning stages pointless.
"breaks the chain of overpowered characters" *completely ignores melee where there isn't just one over dominating character in the meta* before y'all tell me fox, only one solo fox main has ever been the #1 ranked melee player in melee's entire 20+ year history and that only happened just last year
Another fundamental issue with Steve is that by design he can pretty much ONLY attack through disjoints. He’s not the type of character to attack with his body
i’m sorry but not 2 minutes in and i’m getting fed propaganda that early ult was much more balanced than ult is now when there were entire characters that did not function on day 1. compare that to a little fucking cracked out rat who would kill at 80 by hitting one of the easiest two frame moves ever conceived like say what you want, ultimate from 13.0.1 onward is a much more balanced game despite the lack of recent patches.
there is one kind of crazy application of tnt, on a sbf/bf platform you can place it with a pressure plate, then utilt the pressure plate from below plat to punish basically any ledge getup. if they nuetral getup and shield you can also usually squeeze in an fsmash to break their shield if they dont react
late third party DLC ruins smash 4, late third party DLC ruins smash Ultimate. here's hoping the next smash isn't ruined by a late third party dlc! the root of the problem is simple: nintendo ABANDONS smash after the last DLC, they never seriously balance it again and it's like they intentionally try to make the last characters OP ZERO attempt to keep the game balanced, the online is UNPLAYABLE and they go out of their way to shut down FAN events. it's like Nintendo HATES smash in a passive aggressive way
i will say, you can definitely just wait out steve after hes gotten a certain point of mats without it noticeably helping him. if youre smart about you can definitely out camp him
I think the simplest nerf you could give Steve to make him more balanced is to decrease the speed at which he gets resources when mining. That way he would actually have to be strategic and intentional abour his usage of materials instead of being able to spam them as much. He would obviously still be good, but it would take much more effort and careful play while being very easy to implement and thus not breaking his pre-existing design.
Steve was my dream pic for Ultimate because I grew up with minecraft and I was hyped to the ends of the Earth when I saw how faithful he was to his original incarnation in his first showcase. Safe to say I'm sorry for the monkey's paw deal
The one clip where you said Game and Watch was a monstrosity, I can as a Game and Watch main confirm this. (Also his up B has to be the most bs recovery ever to exist lmao)
Anvil really shouldn't be that good that fast, a simple nerf for it would be to make its power gradually increase the further it falls which is more game-accurate anyways.
As somebody who genuine *sucks* at this game who the vast majority of fundamentals are beyond me to the point i feel like my feelings on the subject are totally invalid but enjoy anyways i guess, the way you explained the mechanics even if a lot of it went over my head (tf is a DI anyway) really made clear that sure Steve is strong, but they have a very high skill *floor* to really get stuff done, its hard to argue for a ban that while using all his tools well has absurd results the need to use those tools perfectly and consistently in a game that has a whole 'endgame' built on who makes the first mistake on top of high execution requirements comparatively in some sense he earns some of that edge for the person who can do it, this fact alone i feel is gonna put people off trying to learn the character and rather opt to learn to fight it as a different one which seems in line with the numbers we see them getting not a lot of play. basically you do a fantastic job showcasing the overtuned aspects of the character, but also how much effort it is to be able to accomplish which all sorta adds up to a character that doesn't really need banned due to the learning curve naturally making it harder to over-centralize the meta around them. Anyway, how i ended up getting this recommended as a total smash ultimate novice and "waste of time" to quote the people i played against in the one online tournament i tried to be in when i was still bothering to try and learn the game for fun is a mystery but i am glad i watched through to the end anyway even if i will likely never actually use this information. (Seriously though why is like the entire community so mean to people trying to learn the game)
DI is just holding a direction to influence where you get launched, holding up makes you get launched higher in the air, and holding down makes you go down (same with left and right) usually used to help you live longer than you would normally
@@micahfurlow2624 you seemed to have missed the fact that was only included to make clear the nothing i know about the game in the unintuitive and never explained mechanics side of the game. and was very much not asking it explained.
As someone who's played the game a lot but isn't great (1200 hours more or less) even I at my low-medium level I can pilot Steve as well as any other character. Diamonds in particular lower his skill floor by a lot, which combines with F-Smash, jab and Forward Air to make him a really good bruiser even if you can't do block shennanigans.
