In your panos, in addition to left to right, did you also say you rotate up and down? Does that all go into one series (stitching) or separate? I usually just stitch 8-20 images in a horizontal plane. Anything above 12 and they get very thin and stretched (is this normal?) I use Affinity photo. I shoot in Landscape orientation usually around 100mm.
@GabrielOakPhotography
@GabrielOakPhotography 2 года назад
I do rotate up and down when I do a multi row pano. For example I will shoot 7 images left to right shooting the top half and the 7 images shooting the bottom half. I stitch the top and bottom half together in Lightroom then blend the top and bottom panos together in Photoshop. I almost always shoot my panoramas in portrait orientation anywhere between 35mm to 100mm, I am usually at around 50mm.
@MOAB-UT
@MOAB-UT 2 года назад
@@GabrielOakPhotography Thanks. Maybe that is how I can get them to be less thin.

nice pics. any recommendation on a good indexing pano head? I want to hear and feel the clicks. i bought one but in the field, i can't feel or hear the stops. inside I can a little bit. I dont want that big acratech head. I have a great FLM ballhead and level base.
@GabrielOakPhotography
@GabrielOakPhotography 2 года назад
I do know what you mean about wanting clicks. It would be super helpful to speed up the process of shooting a pano. I do not know of any decent pano head with clicks. I stick with my acratech head because the build quality is amazing and I can abuse it and it never fails, but it can be tricky to see my marks in low light.

@@GabrielOakPhotography Thanks. What do you think of the 300N Manfrotto?
@GabrielOakPhotography
@GabrielOakPhotography 2 года назад
@@MOAB-UT I think that is a great option. I love Manfrotto and that panoramic base looks amazing. I did consider it at one point but the price point steered me away. Kinda kicking myself not.
@MOAB-UT
@MOAB-UT 2 года назад
@@GabrielOakPhotography Thanks for your reply. I agree. It is the best option I have found so far. I just returned the other one I bought today. It was solid and heavy but the clicks were super soft. Just went to Death Valley and Zion NP. In the field, sand storms, wind, sun, I could not feel or see a single click. Hoping the Manfrotto at 2-3x + the price should be better. I have a Manfrotto Focus Rail I use for Macro- it works amazingly well- very solid as you said. I use that focus rail on my German FLM ball head with an L bracket so I can establish the correct Nodal Point. I'm pretty new but it works great- in post, it is very even and very little cropping was necessary. I also have the FLM level base. I use my own large bubble level to make sure all is right- the tiny built in ones are not accurate enough IMO. I am a little OCD which in photography is actually a good thing. So was Ansel Adams - Group f/64!

I've got bkt on the dial, i've got 2sec timer, i've got bracketing set to focus, i've tried both auto and manual. i can set point a. but then ive tried every motherfucking button on the fucking camera to get point b. nothing works. on auto the motherfucker just shoots 1 shot as if i've cancelled out of bracketing and on manual it takes all the pics i've set but no focus is shifted. fucking cunt camera. i need to find someone to make a baby proof indepth step by step tutorial how to do it. the manual says nothing, all the vids and forum threads i've read say different things. some has set manual settings for their buttons so it doesnt work. fucking shit!!!

I'm sorry...is this part of the country only for YOU to enjoy? Just because you live nearby doesn't make the location "yours". Get over yourself. It's a free fucking country and your type of mentality IS the problem.

Do you use specific in camera settings for this to make it easier?

The 8-16 lens is so tempting with that ultra-wide 8mm reach, 16mm 1.4 is my widest right now. Have been considering getting 10-24 but the lack of WR on that lens is a much bigger issue than the lack of easy filter solution on 8-16. Your videos with this lens have me thinking. :D

Well done, thank you Gabriel. I do have a question. I’ve never been able to understand the relationship between frames and steps. If I set the camera to 20 frames with 5 steps, will it increase or decrease the steps automatically to have the subject in focus? Will it add or decrease the number of frames as needed? I’ve never understood the ‘step’ factor. If I choose 20 frames and 20 steps what will the camera do to get the subject in focus, as in shooting a flower up close or as you did here, a landscape, short as it may have been. Thank you for the video. As you, having the focus stacking feature on the xt3 is a dream along with the 80mm macro when doing that with flowers. I have yet to do landscapes but within the next few days, I’m going out to see what I can do. By the way, I began taking photos when I was in the eight grade in 1954, studied it in high school, ships photographer on the submarine I was on (shot stills with a Nikon of a nuclear missile being detonated above the surface of the Pacific Ocean, shot with every camera I could including Leica reflex, M3, M6, Hasselblad, on and on...) and now with the Xt1 converted to permanent IR, using the Xt2 and 3 as well, typically the 3. I’ll be 80 this summer. Still love photography and meditation. Thanks again, and sorry for the long ‘story’ but for whatever reason I wanted to introduce myself to you. Robert

Robert Yanasak I sure can help you understand frames and steps a little bit better. Thank you for the lovely comment. I love the fact that you’re still shooting photography and have such a passion for it at your age I only hope that I can follow in your footsteps. Now how to respond to your question, I am going to respond the same way that I answered this similar question earlier this week and if for some reason it doesn’t make sense let me know and I’ll try to further clarify. So here I go, the camera will only take as many pictures as it deems necessary, which for a landscape photo doesn’t typically exceed 10 to 15 frames. However if you are shooting macro photography I would set my frames much higher than that. Steps are the distance by which the camera shifts the focus points between images. To further explain, the step is calculated using the distance between the near and far limit of the depth-of-field on the first image captured. Setting the step to one (1) shifts the focus by approximately 20 percent of that distance. A step of five (5) shifts the focus 100 percent of that distance. I have experimented with images using various steps and honestly my recommendation for most photography is to keep your steps at around five. But for example if you’re shooting a very detailed macro shot I would set my steps at one, as that is the shortest distance between focal points. I hope this information has helped you. Thanks for watching the video.

@@GabrielOakPhotography Thank you very much for the prompt reply. Yours is the best and clearest (detailed) explanation that I got on YT. Not even Fuji technical support gave me any type of an answer, the Fuji tech told me that it depends on the lens, so I told him that it was an X-T-2 with an XF-35 f/2, guess what his answer was? “you need to experiment”. I was expecting a better answer from Fuji. Again, thank you very much and you definitely got a new subscriber.
