Backyard Homestead HQ is a website that teaches backyard homesteading based on our experiences. Learn what to do (and what not to do) along with us on this journey. This channel is about gardening, food storage, homesteading, raising animals, and learning how to manage it with our family.

Backyard homesteading is a lot of hard work - there is no promise of success. The goal, however, is to have fun while being more self-sufficient in a small suburban space.

it is not the chickens that are the problem, it is the roosters. Get a rooster and see how the opinion of your neighbors change.

From a cooks point of view well a consumer as well. Surely everyone likes the yolk best, if you do Pullet eggs are for you as whilst smaller they have a higher yolk to white ratio. A true free range poached Pullet egg is the ultimate egg for me 😂

Wild birds aren't stuck in one place, they move around and or fly away, so the noise isn't constant like with chickens. The loud noise from kids, traffic, etc., also is not constant.

I'm sure that the solid fencing all around the property with the chickens helps to block out some sound. I have a neighbor that has multiple hens and multiple roosters. They don't speak English so there's no talking to them about the loud noise.

We have 3 across that keep coming on our property not fenced . Try 6 times in one week. From across. They had a rooster. I couldn’t take. They’re not even allowed to have one chicken let alone 3 on their property by law , let alone trespassing on our property to come get them . Unless you’re on a farm with acres and acres, it’s a big no for me . Just simply inconsiderate

You’re right. Some wild birds make more noise than the chickens. I just think we’re more conditioned to those sounds having heard them all our lives. My neighbor’s neighbor just got chickens and I find the noise extremely annoying. It literally sounds like someone’s choking them imo. Maybe I’m just not used to it? Maybe it will grow on me?

My neighbour has one "special breed" chicken in a pen about 30 feet away. All i get is a loud piercing "bergerrrk" every 15 seconds from dawn to dusk that's so high pitched I can hear it over the radio and TV. I just want to get the BSA .22 out and silence the thing!

Of course your chickens are not an issue. But many of us living with homes on top of each other - and laws about no chickens - have neighbors sneaking in chickens and they are feet from our bedroom windows squawking non stop. Annoying AF. You are a good neighbor because you went and asked and were concerned. You are a rare bird - pun intended. lol

Really appreciated this video! Have not set up my garden yet, nor figured out a chicken coop, or mobile coop, but was concerned about just "egg chickens", because although I've lived and worked on farms when younger, and have had friends that raise them in residential areas, my brain couldn't remember any loud chickens!😂 Got a bit of property, skinny football field size, but was concerned about complaints. This took those fears away! Instant Subscription

Hi, we just built a new much bigger coop for our girls and they adjusted getting in just fine, but they are not roosting on the bars in the coop. They are sleeping on the floor of the coop. Any suggestions?

What do you do when ur neighbor puts a rooster and a chicken couoe 20 ft from your backwindow? Incredibly rude to have a rooster in a neighborhood...its not the chickens thats the problem....how do we shut the rooster up? And y would someone want a rooster IN A NEIGHBORHOOD
@BackyardHomesteadHQ
@BackyardHomesteadHQ Год назад
That's when you need to weigh the pros and cons of talking to your neighbor along with reviewing the noise and zoning ordinances for your area. We're zoned residential agricultural, so we *could* have roosters with our chickens. But we like our neighbors - so we've opted out of roosters so far. And we keep our coop in a reasonable location. If you've got good neighbors, talk to them about what the options are and see what you can compromise on within what's allowed. Roosters gonna crow. If they aren't great neighbors, I wish you luck!!!
@veryslyfox
@veryslyfox Год назад
Check your local laws. Roosters are illegal in many cities. Chickens may require permits, and the city can revoke the permit if there are noise complaints. Last resort, take matters into your own hands. (use your imagination)

I absolutely loved your video! Our chickens are right on track. As far as we know they were hatched April first or so. We got them from tractor supply April 3rd or so. We have had mostly 1.7 ounce eggs lately with a small one sprinkled in. Lol We did have one over two ounces. A couple of 1.8 were double yolk. I’m so glad you’re like me! God bless you and your girls.. we have 8, 5 Rhode Island Red and 3 Jersey Giants. Now we want 8 more! Americana hopefully.
