Hi, I'm Justin 👋 Hiking, mountains, wild camping & gear videos in the UK.
You only live once, so get out there!
☕☕☕ 🍺🍺🍺 You can now buy me a coffee or BEER if you'd like to! I only wish I could clink glasses with you! Cheers 🍺 Justin 🤠 www.buymeacoffee.com/justinwhity Link ABOVE 👆 and BELOW 👇

Great video Justin. Loved the edit and relaxed feel to it. Me and Judith watched the whole series and its great to see another persons perspective and thoughts on the trail. It has a lot of charm as you said. Not the wild remoteness of some trails, but lovely rolling hills, quaint villages and historical sites. It is also not as easy as you might think, there is plenty of ascent to do. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks Andrew & Judith 🙏 I agree with everything you said. I’d like to return to do the sections we missed on days 2 and 3, without the mud though! Thanks too for staying with me to the end, you are 2 of the 12! 😁
Nice one Justin, those were some long days out there! Lovely little cricket ground, were you tempted to don the whites again? 😄 See you on the next one, wherever that may be!
Cheers Andrew 👍 Long days but I preferred the second half of the trail. Yes, would love a game of cricket again but I wasn’t very good. My highlights were a slogged 50 and winning Fielder of the Year. Enough said! 🏏 🤠
Once again, thank you Justin for the beautiful images you planted in our heads 😊 One really can't tell you're emotionally attached to the region, hahaha. The boggy bits from the first part do look quite awful but the rest made completely up for it 🙌 There's not much I can recommend, apart from the John o'Groats Trail, which I think is now in a much better condition than it was two years ago. It really is spectacular once you get past Tain... Cheers from the Peak District - last day today 😔
Danke schoen Stefan 🙏 I would like to one day return to the parts of day 2 and day 3 that we missed in March due to bad ground conditions. I’m sure they would also be great. I loved the second half of the trail in good weather, I think you can see that in the videos 😁 My preference for trail #10 is Scotland, and my friend lives in Wick so you never know! Glad you’ve had some good weather in the Peak District 😎
@@JustinWhiting9 I was in Wick a few weeks ago - it's such a sad affair, this little town. But I did stay there on my walk after an unplanned 45 km day 🙄 Yes, the weather was brilliant the last two weeks. We first spent a week in North Yorkshire, close to Darlington, now a week in Castleton. It's the second time we are here - we have a great place where we can stay with the dog and there so many walks around here. Unfortunately, my wife is scared of heights which somewhat limits the selection 😂 Yesterday I asked for permission to do a solo hike - left here at 4.30 in the morning to do a 20 mile loop over Kinder Scout. It was wonderful to be up there all by myself. The first person I met at about 7.30... Anyway, I am babbling 🙃
Very good! 👌 Walking alone is a completely different experience, and far better. You see and hear so much more. You think deeply about things. You feel part of the landscape. Most family and friends simply can’t understand it. They think it’s an unnecessary hardship and recommend taking a friend, a dog, my family, a group of people. No, no, no, no! Du weisst was Ich meine….
@@JustinWhiting9 One more thing... Since I wasn't able to fit in a walk in Scotland this year, I will be going down the Fishermen's Trail, Rota Vicentina, in Portugal in November... can't wait. No tent, just this time, just enjoying the luxury of hostels and portuguese food 😁
Congratulations Justin on completing The Shropshire Way 👏🏼You did it proud...Always enjoy you with that final pint of Guinness...How about a coastal walk for your 10th...I.O.W.....Pembrokeshire coastal...or Cleveland way 👍🏻😁👍🏻
Thanks Wil 👍 I enjoyed the second half of the trail in good weather much more than the first. People often mention they enjoy seeing me drink the beer at the end. As a viewer, we also like to feel a sense of completion, closure, reward and celebration all rolled into one. It works in the video (and in real life!). I promise to continue the ritual! 😁 Will also give those trails a look. Cheers! Justin 🤠
Well done! The last hill was certainly worth the view, especially with good weather. Hope Adam's injury heals quickly. I've enjoyed his music throughout your videos. Have you completed any of the Two Moors Way?
Thanks Dani! The last hill was thankfully easy and I had a good long break at the viewpoint 👌. Adam’s ankle is much better now thanks. Drop him a message on his channel if you like, he’s a friendly guy youtube.com/@underabanner?si=7j8XHZnAFHLH3mcg Will check out the Two Moors Way, thanks for following me to the end! 🤠 Justin
It felt a bit strange to be alone again Beda, but beautiful conditions to walk all day. It was a joy. Yes, Altmuehltal looks like a similar landscape. Toll durchzuwandern!👌
Thanks Justin for taking us along The Shropshire Way. I’ve enjoyed it very much and will be looking it over and again a couple of times, for sure. Definataly looking forward to your number 10 hike! Cheers, Henk
Absolute joy from start to finish - both the videos and the hike itself. Thank you for your company and your technical skills of course. I'll be back to finish the trail too. My suggestion for hike #10 would definitely be the Snowdonia Way, Machynlleth to Conwy. Having completed that hike myself I know you'd be in for a varied bundle of treats.
Good to hear. In the last 3 years I’ve worn my boots for about 3 days only but worn out 4 pairs of trail runners over many hundreds of miles. Loads of long days 👉 More comfort, No injuries.
@@JustinWhiting9 My injury is a strange one. I can’t wear boots with high ankle support as they rub against the ankle bone but lower trail runners are completely fine.
Great to see another video Justin along the beautiful shropshire way...Think we are all struggling this year to get a long stretch of good weather....Love Ironbridge but must admit my favourite time to visit is a very early winter morning with plenty of mist and no one about just adds to the spectacular village...Looking forward to your next one👍🏻😁👍🏻
Thanks Wil, we were disappointed to get off the trail in March but it would have been grim. Great weather in May and much more enjoyable and beautiful hiking 👌 I love Ironbridge at any time of year 👍
is it easy enough to find wildcamping spots along the trail? would you recomend great glen way or ehw?(which one is worse for midges?) i have done whw..
On my day 4 video of the EHW I give a summary of my thoughts on the trail. Wild camping is possible, but there are fewer suitable spots than you think. EHW is remote, almost no other hikers. GGW is more sociable with more hikers, canoeists and people boating in the canal. I was lucky and almost no midges, so I don’t know. EHW is higher up so windier, maybe fewer midges.
Very understandable to do it in 2 parts. Great to see you enjoying this long day, the part between the two hills was one of my favourite sections. And finishing with a cheeky wildcamp...love it !
I'm very proud to have been part of this hike. This particular section was sublime and well filmed; the music's pretty good too ;) Wonderful stuff! Adam.
a lot of people use this tent but thay only have it for themself as it has more room than the lanshan1 how is the room in it if i was to get one for a couple im wanting to go to the lakes but the sights dont alow sleeping in your car so need a small light tent but also room for two would you recomend this
Thx again for inspiration. My own adventure is online and I alllowed myself to add you as a Channel Buddy. Greetings from Poland. Darz Bór i zawsze bezpiecznych szlaków! (May the forest reward you and always safe trails!)
Out of all the tents I own, this one is by far the best value for money. I've got the standard Lanshan 2 and the 2 Pro and believe me, I've had them out in some testing conditions. I used my Pro for the Pennine Way, perfect tent for the job and once you've got the knack, can be pitched in about 3 minutes. Great pitching & tips video. ATB
Thanks 👍 I bet you’ve had it out in all conditions. You might like some of the other vids I’ve done on this tent. Wind test, rain test, snow test, seam sealing, bathtub upgrade etc. Cheers, Justin.
Hello...I m planing my first long distance hike in Scotland, and can't figure out which one .. whw seems to be busy with people at this time of year and fact that in some places can't wild camp gives me a headache..the only challenge for me would be midges, otherwise I m not looking for easy trek. Which one would you recommend? Great Glenn way?
Watching this 5 years on and this is a regular run route for me. I live on the newbuild Estate at the edge of the bilbrook walk turning right after that bridge in final field. Great video 👍
Thanks Ben, That was the first video I ever shot. Proper rough round the edges! 😂 I like to think my stuff is much better these days, but you have to start somewhere. I often walk around your estate on my regular walks. Say hello if you see me 👋 (look out for my red jacket). Cheers mate, Justin.
many thanks for this instruction, despite I'm used some different tents in the past, my construction last week with the lanshan 2, looked a little poor, so with your advice it should be much better next time 🙃
A wonderful video of that beautiful Loch, Kirk and surrounding stunning countryside… We attended a family wedding at that lovely church last week. On a recce a couple of days before, we too stood in front of Rob Roy’s grave. Nearly 300 years later we were moved to see little mementos/gifts still being left in his memory. I wondered if the admiration was for his crimes, his bravery, his standing against the British or his acceptance of The Union? Or simply the addition of a seemingly romantic, charmed life due to Sir Walter Scot’s romantic novel. 😢We puzzled awhile about the words “MacGregor Despite them” too, but then we saw a board with information about the family. Some members of that name were apparently guilty of many and varied crimes including theft, sheep rustling etc, but apparently it was, by law, enough to simply carry the name ‘MacGregor’ to have you arrested and hanged. NO trial required! Who can blame MacGregors then for use of the phrase “Despite Them”! We’re home now, but look forward to our next visit to the movingly beautiful, Historic Highlands.
Thank you. Well, it’s the same story for ‘freedom fighters’ in all of history. The truth is often more gruesome than the legend. A truly awe inspiring location and viewpoint. One of many in wonderful Scotland 👌
Hello, thank you for the valuable information on how to set up and configure this tent. I recently purchased this model and, I confess, I didn't set up the tent correctly, leaving it very uneven. Now with this video, I know how to assemble it correctly. Thank you one more time. And...sorry for my terrible English, as I'm Brazilian and used Google Translate.
@@JustinWhiting9 Hello, yes, I spent 2 Days in Comrie to see the camp and visit the nearby Distillery. It was totally worth to take 2 Days break. I walked between 28. of April and 6. of May, I had some changing Scottish Weather. Afterwards I spent a few days in Pitlochry and the Weekend in Edinburgh. Just arrived yesterday.
Great vid.Going in September .Going to do half thre trail Rubha to Portree, camping, do you have any gpx files etc you could share especially this camp spot. If it was in England I obviously would not ask. All the best Simon
I carried enough. I didn’t want to waste time and energy searching for water. It’s physically demanding enough up there without that. Check out Hounds of Howgate Skye Trail series. He camped on the ridge and found a water source.
@@JustinWhiting9 will do mate. I spotted some Lochans? on OS between Bealach Uige & Bein Edra but can't tell if they are suitable for filtering. I did the Cumbria way last week & WHW last April & I love being able to carry 800ml & an empty hydropak bladder & filter as I go
Nice one. I’ve done those trails and others. Check my channel page. 👍 Regarding water, yes travelling light and filtering is good, until you’re sick, dehydrated or exhausted (or all 3). Then it’s horrible. Everywhere else on the Skye Trail has lots of water, but I advise you play safe on the Trotternish Ridge and carry extra. It’s the hardest day’s walking I’ve ever done.
3 years later people still watching and appreciating the information, Doing mine tomorrow as we have some fine weather for a change in the UK. Thanks for sharing Justin.
Cheers Ray 👍 July 2020, so nearly 4 years ago! Funnily enough, I put my L2pro up today to repair some cat claw holes in the flysheet 😱 A small dab and swirl of sealant inside and out will fix them up. I know this because I fixed some rogue stitch holes from the factory in the same way 4 years ago and not a single leak since. I made a different video….. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8NFAD47I3XQ.htmlsi=A84u0MuvUNBKIWQf Have a good day doing your tent… leave it up for 2 days if you can.
@@JustinWhiting9 Thanks Justin, I’ll keep an eye out for any of those rouge holes! I did watch your video in December last year when I bought it, Colin’s Outdoors had a sale on, I think it cost me £115 with the footprint included, Not even had it up yet due to the weather, hopefully it’s all good, planning to use it for the Cumbria way in July with my wife, be a bit tight but it’s so lightweight compared to my Fjallraven Abisko Dome 2, thanks again Justin, much appreciated.
Good price that Ray. Mine was £100 in Jan 2020 (before covid and Ukraine) but they are around £180+ now. I’ve done 8 vids on this tent, check out my channel page 👉 Playlists 👉 Lightweight Gear Reviews. Thanks for your kind comments 🫡
What a great series of video of the trail Justin, thank you! I've canoed the Tay and found some fantastic wild camping spots... but a bit easier to carry gear in a canoe!
I live about 10 minutes walk from the Rob Roy statue in Stirling, Justin, so I'm familiar with the area you walked through. I've actually walked from Drymen to Killin along the Rob Roy Way. However, your photos have made me realise that I haven't appreciated the scenery enough. Your enthusiasm helps as well. By the way, not a bad golf swing.
Thanks Russell 👍 Sometimes we don’t appreciate what’s on our own doorstep. I love hiking in Scotland but does it ever rain up there? As for my golf swing… FORE!!! 🤠
I remember staying overnight there on a youth training expedition, we did rock climbing etc. The last night we stayed at the cave. We just laughed and told jokes throughout the night, one of the best times of my life. Countless shooting stars. That was back in 1984. I always said I'll return there again but still haven't?
Hi Justin, just found your channel and I've Subscribed, this Walk I did a long time ago but North to South from Great Malvern, where I parked then I got a taxi back to Great Malvern, it's a fantastic Walk. thanks for taking us with you, its a 👍from me mate cheers Glenn
Yes, someone else told me the same Dave but I didn’t know that at the time. I will return to the area one day and do that short detour past Loch Gynack 👍
Thanks for the tip about doing Catbells! I think we'll go for that route when we end up doing it as it looks fantastic. I'm going through these videos and I'm wondering if you'd recommend doing the Cumbria Way from Carlisle to Ulverston? Do you have any thoughts about doing it from north to south?
Thanks Dan 👍 Southbound would be equally as good I think. No real disadvantages come to mind. Let me know if you do a video and good luck! Cheers, Justin
I have one and I love it also. Bear in mind when you are on the South Downs Way or many hikes in the summer it is almost impossible to pitch this tent in my experience. 1 the ground is too hard for the pegs and 2 you rarely find a flat lawn on a long hike. For that reason I use a free standing tent despite the extra weight
I have experimented with my Lanshan 2 pro and set the poles to 110. Also for the guy lines at the pole ends I peg down separately. All essentially to reduce the gap at these ends.
Yesssss Justin. I’ll be honest I got the lanshan 2 a few weeks back and I’ve watched videos on end and still haven’t got it pitched properly… until now. Fantastic I’ve finally got it sorted. Very much appreciated the video 👍
