Cody is actually a much better heel than face. The inflection was obvious to me also, life long wrestling fans and I've seen this before lol But....the way Cody and Roman are doing it as well as the production is what's making this so enjoyable. This is AWA, WCCW, on steroids...I guess my point is, this is old school wrestling angles with a modern twist. It's new to a lot of fans because they've sat through ruthless aggression and PG eras...this is good.
IMO if you have to go to a setting without fans to maintain the integrity of a babyface then I think that is putting a bandage on what needs to be addressed head on. Perhaps Cody needs to adjust or pivot in his promos and the way he portrays himself if they don’t want the fans to boo him. They gotta set him up for success by not positioning themselves in that vulnerability to begin with but instead start making changes to his character in front of live fans and let them make the noise they’re gonna make regardless. As John Cena rode the wave, Cody should too. Doing this for the beauty of the cinematography? Sure. But to say it was good because it shouldn’t have been in front of fans is contradictory to the nature of what a live pro wrestling show is all about for fans.
This would not have worked in a wrestling ring Was epic worked perfectly Roman and Heyman cut some crazy promos through coivd and that was amazing but the fake crowd noice and situation spoiled it This promo was epic silence in the background spoke volumes gave it atmosphere which silence usually can't Center stage on an nfl/college football pitch massive city massive energy yet they was not even wrestling this was more than a promotion more than a face off
If you're not paying attention.....that promo between Cody & Roman is the start of their trilogy. The greatest WrestleMania story ever told will be with Roman Reigns & Cody Rhodes; the endgame is WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas
I agree with bubba and mark, Cody had heel tone of voice, snd I also guess that when Bubba ask Mark about "What happened if the face off happened in Arena?" Roman = Cheered Cody = Booed
There were a couple of moments there that were eye-rolling.. just bad action flick writing. But the premise, and the idea was excellent. I think the execution was a little iffy, but I hope they continue down that path.. maybe tighten up the writing a bit, just a little less cringe-inducing. Roman looked like a million bucks tho.. he can act, well. He could seriously follow in the Rock's footsteps, and do just fine. The things Mark said abt the camera work, the lighting, the sound.. the cinematic approach.. that was on point. Absolutely masterful. Nobody does production like WWE. Nobody.
On the Cody “heel or baby” argument. Pretty obvious he’s still a baby but he’s not going to just forgiven forget everything Roman did him and feel sorry for him. Roman pulls in with a snobbish amount of BLACK cars. Cody pulls up in WHITE American muscle. Yeah his tone was heelish, but the iconography, music, verbiage was all skeptical burned too many times baby face
Very happy for All Ego!!! Totally used horribly by AEW, just couldn’t figure out how to use him despite his natural talent and the tightest t*ts in the game! Still, I disagree with some, agree with others. Buddy Matthew’s I disagree with a bit… add one member to the House of Black when Malakai is better and you finally have a singles contender for the world championship (Black), and the rest can go for tag team, trios, other titles what have you… HOB needs 4 members badly IMO. Matthew’s for TNT or International Champ. Cody is a fair one because he didn’t want to take the supreme spotlight in AEW, and how could he resist finishing the story, agree strongly. Ricochet’s stock will rise dramatically… storylines with Ospreay as well as wrestling more athletically inclined athletes like the Luchadores will help that a lot. He was never used correctly in WWE… never…IMO. Mercedes Mone, way too early to tell. Not enough matches, though getting better on the mic, readjusting to an American crowd from Japan, and the Britt Baker match made her look really bad. Britt was awful that night, and it’s hard to look good against someone who is nowhere near your level for 20 minutes. Just not a Jade Cargill fan, period. Nothing personal at all, just not a fan, she doesn’t make me feel anything. She’s a better wrestler in WWE, but still not big on her… time will tell if she can emotionally link herself to the audience in a truly heartfelt way. Don’t count emotions and how a wrestler makes you FEEL. Hulk Hogan, despite his flaws, made everyone believe and FEEL like a real superhero. Stone Cold made you feel that same emotion for different reasons, as did the Rock. As for Punk, not a hater, but not a lover either… it doesn’t matter what he does,I just turn the TV off when he’s on. I feel nothing with him, especially after going to AEW to “Help the company and young talent”, while doing nothing for them and even complaining about working with “kids” at AEW, which is why he claimed to go there. I truly believe Punk did all he could at AEW to make himself look good so he could go back to WWE. he didn’t care one lick about AEW, IMO… Just the crowd popping at his return to the ring after 7 years. I couldn’t get them all, but had to give my two cents… always opinion, even from pros like Tommy and Bully… and to be honest, I don’t think Bully likes AEW that much at all, to say it nicely, and will always favor WWE. one reason is not taking into account the superstar status some AEW guys have in Japan, Mexico, etc. AEW will build their worldwide audience, figure out the kinks (only 5 years old compared to how old is WWE? Much more business experience, how to read the crowd, etc.) so I think some of these debates are too early. Also, I know we’re talking talent that switched companies, but guys like Takeshita are just INCREDIBLY good, and will only get better, especially once he adds mic skills. Also, much more talent from other companies like El Hijo del Vikingo and others make those AEW matches fantastic. WWE, IMO, is a bit more dogmatic in their wrestling style fitting in small amounts of other styles like strong or lucha, while AEW features many throughout entire matches giving you more wrestling diversity… IMO. However, AEW will settle in at some point, this year has been much better for longer storytelling, LOTS to learn still, but theirs is not WWE’s storytelling… they don’t have that luxury quite yet. Just another opinion, no hate for anything, just love pro wrestling! 🙏❤️
At first, I wasn't enjoying the segment too much. I didn't care for the shots of the stadium, or the arrivals with the cars, etc. I thought it was too much. Admittedly, I don't care about sports, and I don't care about cars, so those shots literally had no effect on me. They evoked nothing. That all changed as soon as both guys started talking. I enjoyed every second of their promo. The way they spoke to each other, what they said to each other, the little mannerisms and inflections. It was awesome. I wouldn't call it cinema like a lot of people are saying (come on, people!), but it was definitely a high production promo, unlike anything I've ever seen. I wouldn't mind more promos in that style. I do feel, however, that they should be kept for important rivalries and top level superstars. I wouldn't start doing that for a mid-card feud. Like, I could see another one with Punk and McIntyre, but I wouldn't want to see one with Andrade and Hayes. They should always feel special. "You're in my way, you're in my way in life" DAMN!
I think everyone is wrong! The beauty to Cody and Roman is there is no right or wrong or good or bad. The beauty about 2 baby faces is you get to hear and pick which ever side u are on. They both came off as heels and they both came off as faces depending on who u agree with! This was a amazing subjective promo. Roman still Comes off as a narcissist and Cody still comes off as desperate and that’s the beauty of it
I swear you guys just say stuff sometimes like Mark claiming that’s the “1st time Cody ever definitively won against Roman in a promo”. That’s absolute nonsense. He was shredding it up the first year before wrestlemania 39. Think before you speak Mark, this is supposed to be your business not mine.
@@reeseangle9621 Bingo. And I’m one of those fans that can legitimately say that I’ve been a Roman reigns fan since day one. The right side, I was never one of the fans booing him. I was always rooting for his success. He was my favorite from the shield since day one. That doesn’t make my argument mean more anything, but it’s just my little piece of anecdotal evidence.
I didn't get to follow Cody when he was in roh, but what I will say is that despite what everyone felt about, stardust him in that heel role towards the end had me sold so I could totally see him making a heel turn. I think the only question about that decision will be how it affects merchandise because to the kids. Cody is now what John Cena was and for years John never wanted to do a heel turn because he knew that would affect the relationship with the children demographic
It's a matter of interpretation, Roman and Cody both came across heelish at times, but I'd say Cody came across as more of a heel during the encounter.
