Thanks for sharing this video with us, Africans. I will be getting Sisterlocks soon. I had it in 5 years ago and regrettably 😢took it out. I hopefully won't repeat that decision again.
Locs are all the same just different tools that make different design in your hair my cousin is a sisterloc consultant and have show me the trick to the tool
@sisterlocks7994 During several interviews Dr. Joanne Cornwell mentions psychological trauma of enslavement. Dr. Cornwell also discuss how African people/people of African descent must work at unpacking indoctrination. Then I notice Dr. Cornwell double downs in this video and allows two women to degrade traditional locs (20:48). The first woman (20:48) says Sisterlocks are “feminine” unlike traditional locs. The second woman says traditional locs feel rough, traditional locs are uneven and traditional locs look unkept. Dr. Cornwell is featured in this same video and participated in perpetuating colonial afrophobic indoctrination.
Going through the comments and there no replies from the producers. How are they able to help black women across the world who are interested in sister locs installs, retightening and business?
There are consultants who are avoiding recertification because of the cost but continue to install sisterlocks using the same tool but a different name for the technique.
Fabulous interview. I loved the sisterhood displayed here. And Dimitria’s story is so inspirational and it was dope to hear Dr.C speak French. We love us and that’s beautiful to see🤎💞👩🏽🦱👩🏾🦱👩🏿🦱💐
I was one of the unlucky ones who got a bad apple of a consultant. Although she was on the registry, I live in a part of Canada's that doesn't have a large enough Black population to have had consultants to choose from. At the time, there was literally only her. I'm 1.5 years in and this entire process has been a nightmare. I've never bothered submitting a complaint because I know that nothing could/will be done, but I'm devastated. My confidence has been so low since my installation, which is the opposite of how I'm supposed to feel. Thankfully, I found a trainee (whose clients were all previous unhappy clients of the lady who did my hair) to do my retightenings, who's really good. I'm often tempted to have her fix my locs, but 80% of my hair is wrecked so there'd be no point in fixing them. I'd have to get them taken down and reinstalled, or cut them. I already paid $1500 (hair was really long) and it took over 40 hours, over 4 days. The last thing I want is to go through that again.
I am 1 year sisterlocked and this has been the BEST most 🙌BLESSED decision EVER! My hair is beautiful! I simply love it and it's growing so fast..thick and healthy!!! Best investment I've ever made. Very HAPPY!!
