She broke it down. Economics. Braiding and locking is the one thing 'they' cannot take from you.

You are 1000% correct! I'm a licensed cosmetologist and have been saying this for years!!! While in college I also did a presentation on how the Asians have quietly come in and taken over our hair industry. It's a real shame...but we as a people need to take some responsibility and do better as well. Great video I'll be sharing this one!

Taylor, Faye - I totally agree sista! Also, we have a lot of these youngsters and newcomers to "natural hair" who show ALL of our hair secrets and techniques FOR FREE on RU-vid, JUST for likes and subscribers (smh). Then we wonder why "others" learn, claim and profit from OUR "HAIRitage". Like u said, we (collectively) MUST do better ...and have honor and integrity with our culture.

It is so nice to see an intelligent speaking African American Woman, speak the truth and not be blinded by the lie. We've been bamboozled for too long when it comes to beauty. Thank-you for sharing!

What a terrific video! Thank you very much for this breath of fresh air! I treasure my Sisterlocks and have deeply been in love for going on 10 years now. It is the absolute best answer to my hair's well being, strength and growth. As soon as I had them put in I felt certain I will stay with them as long as I want. Thank you Dr. Cornwell, for a sustainable, naturally strengthening approach to caring for our unique hair, making it truly a crowning glory!

I just did my own braid locs with my own natural hair and I love it! Asian hair stores are going out of business in North Carolina and I don't feel sorry for them. all I want from them is black soap and earrings.

I overstand your passion because it is true we have to have our own. They master us better then we do and claim it as their own and open up a school or salon or a hair supply store in our neighborhoods and claim it as theirs. So, yes, I agree 100% we must have our own .

Preach! I'm so glad I found this video. I am taking my SL Training in August and this is a whole new path for me. I am not a cosmetologist and I have never been interested in doing hair other than my own. I have always been an artist of one kind or another and I got on this SL path because I started researching them and it brought me into wanting to install them and then into becoming a consultant. You really hit home on this one on so many levels. I've always wondered why so many of us can pay 100's and 1000's of dollars for weave hair and wigs yet complain about an incredible technique created by us and for us to enhance and heal our own natural hair. This is about healing our hair and our psyches on a much deeper level. You brought it home! My second thoughts have been put to rest! Thanks and Blessings on your SL Journey as a consultant.

This sister said it so powerfully and eloquently. It is very true and women of color need to know where they are strong and how we hold the power to everything. Thank you for saying it clear and strong. As previous comments, You broke it down. Than You

You have your wish because I live in Southeastern Virginia and the some of the Koreans hair products stores are going out of business in 2016. Maybe the majority of African American Virginians are thinking outside of the box of going natural. I am transition to natural by two stranded twist with the ends roller set and under the dryer. I do not separate the hair at all because I just love the curly plate and use rose water and vitamin E oil mix with equal parts to keep my hair moisturize. Great video

it is great way to embrace our beauty. But geez it is so expensive. I went to see 2 loc experts the prices were starting at $400-650. so as a single mom I will look to RU-vid videos to me how to do this myself. You say stop giving money to other cultures but yet their prices are way cheaper.

The points about the initial expense of sisterlocks is a valid point. I can speak for myself only when I say, I have spent more than $600-$700 over the years on wigs, weaves and natural hair care products. At this point in my life, I have no problem paying my sister to provide this service for me. I have spent about $300 and up on designer bags too and I'm almost certain they are not owned by anyone in my community. Sisterlocks is not very affordable but it is a very time consuming and tedious craft. When I was raising my children, the $400-$650 establishment may or may not have been feasible . If I'm going to spend money on my hair, at this point I'm happy to spend it in my community.

I really like you and enjoyed your video! I felt like a drug dealer today. I’m a licensed stylist who works in a white salon. Went to a Black privately owned salon to begin doing natural hair there. Seeing Black Women Getting haircolor, relaxers and all the rest. Them looking at me like I’m so different. I think maybe I should work in a naptural hair care salon right now.

Very well.... Now, in terms of INSTANT locs I do have my own self-created loc technique that I can not wait to present officially to the natural hair care world; my technique uses NO clips waxes or gels dryers etc.; I use just my self-made hand-made copper metal-based tools; And INSTANT styling...JACUZZI fun...sports and exercise participation are a FEW benefits Perhaps I should have partners and students but I lack licencing so I #operate privately with full #honor #obligation #trust #integrity AND NON-disclosure agreements when my recipient(s) come to me.... May you continue doing your bes-t THANK you

How do you say it's not about money when Sister Locs are, in some cases prohibitly expensive. Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't mind. If I were trying to teach Us about Love for ourselves and our culture, I would be recommending Free Form or Semi Free form or even Cultured Locs, all of which you can do for yourself if you wanted to with minimal product. Even if you did decide to go to the Salon it would be less costly than Sister Locs.
@1sttimemom76
@1sttimemom76 6 лет назад
Vickie Paul they are expensive and worth every penny. Why is it okay for everyone to charge hundreds of dollars for fake hair and buy like crazy but too cheap to invest in your own hair and spend with your own black women.

@natashashere

Sisterlocs take 12 to 36 hours, they should cost a lot. If you get a good weave twice you've paid for the SL.
