This film really did shake me to the core. The bombs were catastrophic. A different film that gave me a great sense of catharsis after watching Oppenheimer (such that I cried in my friend's arms hours after we watched it together!) was the animated film Suzume! There's several allusions to the nuclear bombs dropped on Japan in that film and they stop similar-scale disasters from striking again. The film is absolutely, breathtakingly gorgeous, the score is beautiful, and the writing is poignant. No surprise it came from the creators of Your Name!! It's on Netflix and I 100000% recommend it!!!
I watched Janelle Monáe's film Dirty Computer and thought to myself "this is what I wanted Barbie to be!" More Matrix-y and critical of society than the milquetoast commentary we got. Then again, it was controversial enough to piss off conservative reactionaries and to give a lot of women a relatable "it's impossible for women to win" speech... I feel like the movie is a good fun romp and I really enjoyed the campy-ness, but Mattel still sucks. Yknow, with the overseas labour issues and the usual problems of companies and overconsumption. But yes, you're right, and I love Barbie's arc to humanity. And I loved that Gerwig made Ruth god in Barbie universe heehee
hey we dont know each other but i hope ur doing well and I wanna say that GOD still loves u and wants u to be with him all u must do is trust in Jesus (dying for our sins on the cross) and repent of ur sins. GOD loves u more than u can imagine.🎉❤❤❤🎉😊😊😊
As someone that absolutely HATES cockroaches with every fiber of my being, I put this random movie rental on when I was a teenager and was joined barely a minute in by my mom (who likewise cannot stand roaches). We both sat through the film laughing our butts off at the ridiculousness onscreen and when the credits rolled she turned to me and said "I can't believe I watched that whole thing" before we both laughed again. Pure entertainment and still a crowning achievement for me in my Movies I'veGot My Parents To Watch trophy case.
This one didn't land the same way the first three did. I thought we were going to see John fight the Table, but it didn't... feel like that's what we were watching. Winston betrayed John at the end of 3 yet he had no consequences from John for doing that, instead he goes back to directing John in a plan. Your analysis returns my focus to John as a character, as well as the symbolism, and i appreciate that. I don't think it necessarily resolves my issues, but your work is always a good watch ❤
How is it that I'm only watching this now, in 2024? Great video, charming hosts, interesting, thoughtful opinions. I have my own fairly strong feelings about this movie and I've always seen it as the complicated, flawed middle chapter of a pretty cool trilogy (part 3 was the mammoth, 4-hour Snyder Cut - not that garbage the studio released to theatres). Thanks for this.
Huh, because of this three-year-old video, I may go back and watch that film again with fresh eyes. My first watch may have been slightly spoiled by my affection for the Gail Simone run of 'Birds of Prey' comics, which was charming and funny and sexy and ... not this. (What? Harley Quinn? No Oracle? Black Canary is a singer? That doesn't look like Huntress! Casssandra Cain is supposed to be Batgirl, not ... whatever that is! Aaaaagh!) But I'm trying to learn to let go of expectations and accept different visions, having spent more than a decade contemplating and defending my undying love for 'Man of Steel' in the face of all the slings and arrows. So let me give this one another shot.
hold up mikey ! that dig at star wars fans isnt fair , the og trilogy all have very different feels, TLJ was reviled because it was a steaming pile not because of tone.
Wick was the second coming of Hong Kong Blood Opera. Melodrama and heroic bloodshed. Its a formula I will never get tired of, even if John Wick himself needs to retire.
I love your analysis of these movies. And I certainly agree with your assessment of the 1st one. I don't remember a LOT of your assessments of 2 and 3. I need to rewatch. I also need to rewatch the actual movies. And while I agree with some of your analysis of 4, I definitely don't agree with your assessment of John's arc, what he's become/becoming, where his character is going or where the series should do with his character
They will milk John Wick like the Matrix The last movie will probably be "lol, it was le dream" and it turns out everything was just a bunch of sparks in his brain while lying beside the dog in the first movie They shouldve ended it on the third Revenge, consequence, closure
I see chapter 4 more as I did this to you (so now it has to end = JW has to die) than I did this to me (which of course has been the case since chapter 2)
I teach a video editing class and wanted to share some of the "no one knows what they are doing" stories but can't remember which videos those were in. Does anyone remember?
There's something weird with the RU-vid chapters - aside from the first half of the "Part 1" chapter, and the final chapter, the chapters do not agree with what's shown on screen - for example, the chapter titled "Part 3" opens with a screen title of "Part 4"
Nice video, bro. I know I'm absolutely in the minority here, but... I feel like the franchise peaked on entry and then fell off consistently with each subsequent sequel. All due respect to Reeves' maximum effort (and injuries sustained, etc), by the fourth film, the choreography was hard to watch, and it all just felt a bit silly.
1:41 apparently time code comments boost the algorithm. i’ve loved your videos since the first john wick video, mikey, this is such a bittersweet full circle
