The series is rubbish. They made a horrible adaptation of an incredible book. This just shows the cultural decadence of the West. Great books are no longer published, great films and series are rarities. In the 19th century we had books published such as war and peace, The Brothers Karamazov, Moby Dick, The hunchback of notre dame, Madame Bovary, Anna Karenina, Dracula, The count of Monte-Cristo. Today only bad books are published that are not on the same level as their predecessors. There are no more filmmakers like Andrei Tarkovsky, Orson Welles, Staley Kubeick, Akira Kurosawa, Ingmar Bergman emerging This stupid, shallow and anachronistic political proselytism only shows the low intellectual level of the series' creators. Let's talk about the feminism of the character Abigail Fix Fortescue who has no interest in getting married and wants to remain independent. She is inspired by the journalist and feinist activist Nellie Bly who also traveled around the world.. And Nellie Bly showed no interest in marriage until she met a millionaire with whom she married;. Which shows that money can be the siren song for feminists. It could show Abigail Fix being attracted to Phileas Fogg's money and wanting to marry him. For money, she gives up her convictions like Faust sold her soul to Mephistopheles.
It's interesting to hear that you didn't expect the twist of the last day, because I watched the french cartoon version of Around the world in 80 days with animals, and also the Jackie Chan version, and so I know how the story ends, it feels like I always knew, because I saw the lion in smoking do the same thing twenty years ago. But I agree, it's a great show and I can't wait for season 2 (and I hope they'll cast Georgia Tennant as Fogg's new love interest, because they apparently like to act together, but don't have many opportunities. And their son Ty already was in the last episode, so...)
It has to be Abigail Fix who is Phileas Fogg's love interest. because money buys people's souls. Faust sold his soul to Mephistopheles and Abigail for the money to be sold to Phielas Fogg. Let's talk about the feminism of the character Abigail Fix Fortescue who has no interest in getting married and wants to remain independent. She is inspired by the journalist and feinist activist Nellie Bly who also traveled around the world.. ❤❤ it is an amazing Show season 2 is so amazing. It's far surpasses a lot of the shows that I'm watching today... and that is my most favorite ride alongside Roswell New Mexico 2019 both shows are awesome when it comes to representation on color and lgbtq. They both deal with queer story lines amazingly the inclusivity and the you don't have to live like that message is spelled through both shows.❤❤ thank you for the review it was great thumbs up.

Idk where else to put this so im putting it here. I knew nothing about it going in. I thought "funny pirate show, I'll check it out". I knew Blackbeard&crew would rescue the Krew, by "You wear fine things well" I KNEW it was a romance. I didn't even consider queerbait while watching. It wasn't until I became an Internet fan of the show that I saw just how many people didn't believe it was real, main character romance, canonly gay due to oodles of media and we've been burnt before with superwholock so it makes sense why this is as big of a deal as it is. I fr didn't even consider Gentlebeard NOT being a romance.
I love the show, and the negative reviews make me unhappy. The original book still exists - go read it if you want that experience. Or watch the movie from the 50s. Personally I was glad to see something fresh. I found this adaptation really refreshing. The conflicts were resolved using cleverness and kindness rather than violence, and I appreciated the inclusion of real people from history who were brave enough to stand up to the society keeping them down. David Tennant is fantastic as always and he and the other two leads have sparkling chemistry. Loved it, 10/10. I hope season 2 doesn't get shelved because people are mad they cast a black actor and a woman.

I’m watching it and it’s fantastic! It’s also very emotional just like the screen where he defends the Indian Bride groom! Everyone was tearing! Fabulous!
I’m so elated to see this video. Great list!!! Some I’ve already seen, the rest I shall watch because you said to 👍🏼 You helped make this year a bit more blissful, thank you ❤ Thank you for existing 💞Have a wonderful holiday & see you in the new year 🎉 Cheers 🥂
Just discovered this a few days ago on, binged watched the entire series on Sunday and now think it's one of the best things Tennant has ever done - and with his great portfolio, that's saying something. This show was perfectly cast, the plots provided interesting twists to previous versions and the direction was spot on. I'm struggling to find fault. I even liked the slightly cheesy ending - I was screaming at the screen - "Don't just stand there - RUN!" It was also fantastic to see a diverse cast, playing roles that were not obvious attempts at political correctness for profit. There are some negative reviews regarding this point, but they are just written demonstrations of varying degrees of some critics personal ignorance, racism, sexism, fascism and xenophobia and general poor education. While I wouldn't say that this show was perfect in that regard, it was refreshing to see that the production didn't gloss over certain issues Fogg and his associates had to endure during their travels. I am not generally a fan of remakes, but if they were to make a 2nd series, or even remake this into a film, I wouldn't be angry about it! Really hope this gets nominated for and wins many awards.
We live in a cultural decadence where we only have brainless people writing books and scripts. At the time Jules Verne was alive: authors who were published and read by the French people: Balzac, Zola, Fleubert, Alexandre Dumas, Sthendall, Victor Hugo. Today only crap is published, because there are only writers with a low intellectual level. Let's talk about the feminism of the character Abigail Fix Fortescue who has no interest in getting married and wants to remain independent. I love your energy ⚡️ your reviews are delightful and informative. Absolutely brilliant! I’ll be watching this movie in the future, based solely upon your recommendation. I finished both seasons of Only Murders in the Building and loved it 👍🏼 Have a wonderful weekend 💞
@@TheBespinBi Hi again 👋🏼 I’m just checking in because I missed you and wanted to make sure that you are doing well. Interested in anything new you have watched. Hope to see you back soon 💞🤗
@@michaelwilley65 Hey! thank you so much for sticking around! life has been so busy BUT i have big plans for the new year! like we're coming back bigger and better than ever! have a lovely day! and thank you for all your support this year!
Just because I don't see anyone talk about this in comments: The name Our Flag Means Death seems kind of like a weird name at first glance. But so much of the story is about the underlying metaphor. Our Flag Means Death seems like an obvious but unfitting title, like yeah, pirate flags are meant to advertise that the pirates will kill you, but what does that have to do with the plot of the show? Well, symbols of skulls and cross bones were originally christian symbolism. They're called memento mori. Latin for 'remember you will die'. It's a reminder that everyone dies and must face god, so be a good christian. That's why some old tomb stones have the skull and/or crossbones. But I think the symbolism in this show is implying basically yolo. We're all going to die, and pirates die young, might as well be happy while you can be.
It used to be my favorite book as a kid, and I still love it to this day, but honestly I like the show more! It’s absolutely wonderful! And adding a female character like fix and making Passpartout black add even more to the characters! Loved this show so much, really need to watch it again.
I absolutely loved your video. I'm a 64 year-old gay man who's been out for 45 years, and I feel like Heartstopper changed my life too. Not in the way it's affected young people coming to terms with their sexuality, but in the most positive, life affirming way. In a very jaded world, it gave me hope. I can't wait for season 2.
I'm so happy its helped and added a layer of comfort!! It really has changed the world and Ive not been the same since!! Thank you so much for watching ☺️
I agree completely! I'm a 55-year-old gay man and have been out for 30 years. Raised religious and been thru a lot. Heartstopper was cathartic because it allowed me to grieve for the youth that I could never have. But ultimately it is inspiring and beautiful and makes me so very happy. It's pure love and I'll never be the same! ❤️ By the way, it was See-Saw Films (The King's Speech, Power of the Dog) that said, "we should make this!" They acquired the film rights to Heartstopper in 2019, and Netflix acquired the distribution rights in 2021. However, Netflix does deserve credit in that they greenlighted TWO more seasons after it was only released for 4 weeks! They realized how important it was to so, so many.
This show is on my to watch list, but since you enjoy/recommend it, I am moving it to the top. I’m so excited 🤗 Another brilliant breakdown from you, of course you are absolutely delightful. There’s no wonder why you are gaining popularity, you’re a lovely ray of sunshine ☀️ Have a wonderful day ❤️
@@TheBespinBi finishing season one now & loving it! Watching season two immediately after 👍🏼 Btw, have you watched Schitt’s Creek? Highly recommended 🤗 Have a delightful weekend ❤️
@@michaelwilley65 YAYYYY im so happy to hear that! see I've heard so much about schitts creek, that i feel like i definitely need to check it out! thank you! you too!
I was told to watch OFMD without being told *anything* but “it’s so funny” and “you’ll love it” and as a GenX person who isn’t used to seeing non-tragic queer love just SHOWN outright, I was utterly floored. (I go into a lot more detail in our Pride episode, which was going to be about queer pirates even before we knew OFMD was a thing!) OFMD has my heart in a way that few shows ever have.
this show is so wonderfully made! i’m so glad my friend made me watch it. as a non binary person, the representation with jim made me so so happy!! the way the crew accepted them and addressed them how they wanted made me smile :) very excited for season 2
Since season 1 wasn't strict with realism and the little hint we got for what's coming next, I hope season 2 really does have some sort of mermaid storyline cause of the two mermaid skeletons in the pirate flag, I'm a sucker for pirates and sirens
Ooooo I would love something like that!! I have full faith in the team to be able to pull something wacky off like that and for it to still work! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and watching this video!! ☠️💙
After all the hype this show has got over the past few months I decided to look it up and was pretty taken aback because it was categorized as a romantic comedy. I watched the first episode and thought, well this is the funniest shit Ive ever seen, how is this romantic? Then I binged the whole show, got to episode 10 and thought, this is the most heartbreaking shit Ive ever seen, how is this a comedy?
Please please please after you've finished wwdits, watch Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. It's got the same lighthearted found family vibe, amazing writing and the actors - especially Samuel Barnett's performance as Dirk Gently - are SO GOOD. It's like, if Taika Waititi wrote and directed Sherlock but Sherlock doesn't know anything at all, is incredibly socially awkward (in a loveable way) and him and everyone around him has weird superpowers. At first nothing makes sense, you've got this case and different clues and strings and it seems like there's no way these things are related in any way. But in the end everything adds up and makes sense. Everything is connected. Even after rewatching it 15 times you'll still find new things hidden in the background or dialogue. It's just... so good. One of my main influences as a screenwriter and director myself. Sorry for just dropping this in here in the comment section but I think you'd thoroughly enjoy it. (Also to end this novel, loved your video and will go hit that subscribe button!)
(But don't look up the main director/writer, he's not somebody to look up to. His career ended during the rise of the Me Too movement for obvious reasons. But the staff writers, the executive producer, the actors... They're all super sweet, down to Earth and so close with the fanbase. They are what truly made the show so genius.)
... Had to come back because I just can't shut up: What We Do In The Shadows (movie) has another spin-off which is "Wellington Paranormal". It's another mockumentary which follows the two police officers Minogue and O'Leary (those who were called to investigate the vampire house) on their daily patrols and encounters with all sorts of supernatural creatures. Ghouls, ghosts, demons, Satan, a fatberg, aliens, a cursed jacket... It's absolutely genius. And if you haven't seen it yet: Our Flag Means Death. So much natural queer representation and Taika Waititi as a pirate. Again a comedy, light-hearted with serious undertones, written by David Jenkins. 15/10. Aaaand Flight Of The Conchords, written by and starring Jemaine Clement (who also wrote and directed and starred in wwdits) and Bret McKenzie. Comedy, again. Though it's more of the dry kiwi humour (which personally I absolutely love but I don't know about you). It's also got Rhys Darby who stars alongside Waititi in Our Flag Means Death and appears in the wwdits movie as werewolf Anton. With a werewolf Anton cameo in Wellington Paranormal as well. Plus Kristen Schaal who in wwdits plays the role of The Guide and in Flight of the Conchords a stalker/friend/fan named Mel and in Our Flag Means Death Antoinette. (It's all interconnected through that friend group, they just pull each other into all their respective projects and I love it 😂) I will try to shut up now and cage in my nerdy and film loving self. But like... I don't know if it's okay or maybe weird to ask but any chance you'd like to be friends with a lesbian (me) who's (way too) enthusiastic about TV shows and movies and screenwriting and all that jazz? If not that's also totally fine, then just feel free to ignore the question. Cheerio 🦆✨
THANK YOU so much for writing all this!! Your enthusiasm is sooooo cool!! DGHDA sounds legit like my entire deal so I'll be checking that out immediately!!! And I'm actually 4 EPs into OFMD and I absolutely love it!!! It's so goooood 😭 That sounds awesome! Would to love to hear more about what you write and think! Do you have twitter? That's the main place I'm residing nowadays 😂
@@TheBespinBi Yep, I just followed you on there :) BUT beware, if you're not caught up with the new season of wwdits, there are spoilers in my feed. And if you scroll down too far, there's spoilers for Hawkeye and later on Dirk Gently 😅
I love this movie and your comments are spot on. Yes, the bagel and raccoon hehehe. However my favourite are the 2 rocks, they made me laugh and cry at the same time! 💕💕
Thank you for your insight on the series, there are not many that will actually portray with some accuracy the teenage experience, it was also great that they used actors that look the part and not someone in their late twenties or early thirties pretending to be 16/17 years, that has ruined many movies and series for me, biggest offenders done in US. cheers from Canada and keep the reviews coming.
