I am testing if the soil is bad by putting some new plants in the pot with old soil and also leaving some old plants in the same pots. It seems that all the new plants are growing well in the old soil and some of the old plants recovered in the same pots arguing about the bad soil theory. It may still too early to draw conclusions but we will see. Thank you for commenting.

Thank you for your comment. Interesting that turning the pot 180 degrees can awaken the root. I may try it some other time, but this time, I just want to see how the plants handle the bad situation such as root problem. Neon and Pink Panther are very similar varieties, but Pink Panther growing more branches from the main branch but Neon only growing flower buds. I would like to see this process going through without interruption to see what is going to happen later. Since I have the Sugar Dragon re potted and Neon is basically the same as Sugar Dragon, so I will not lose the variety if Neon will not recover.

It depends. The fastest one take 12-18 months, but some can take as long as 2 years to fruit, so if you treat them good with good sun shine and good fertilizer, it will fruit earlier.

Hi i want to Tell my experience. So i have this unknown dragon fruit variety. Thats been abandoned by the previous owner of my house ,but it was growing/climbing on the side of the building. I took it off from the wall but i have to cut the main ground root as the old pot needs to be moved . and i attach the plant(almost adult) to a new location. But i've heard that if i put the part i cut directly into soil ,it will rot (i cover it and let it dry first). So i guide all the aeriel roots downwars and cover them with soil. Two weeks later they became super firm and there were new roots everywhere but not from the main stem. its now fruiting season and its giving me 5 buds 😊. I recently root the main stem using the water rooting method .

@@xiaoli2142 also i watch your journey to making a descent hybrid. I have a question. Can i pollinate a self fertile dragon ,with a self sterile one and get a hybrid thats still self fertile?
@xiaoli2142
@xiaoli2142 Месяц назад
@@MineCraft-nz9pg I don't think so. Most of the hybrid plants of dragon fruit are self-sterile. Self-fertile dragon fruit has its own special genetic makeup and special group of genes responsible for self-compatibility. In the production of a hybrid line, these genetic traits will be most likely be broken up, separated and re-grouped with in-compatible genes, therefore becoming self-sterile. Also, self-fertile dragon fruit is harder to be pollinated with other pollen because its own pollen is functional so it is hard to rule out self pollinating, unless you cut off all its own anthers before pollen maturation to avoid self-pollination.

Yes on planting new ones. But I have growing plants for over 18 years and it has to do with your soil decomposing and soil conditioning to certain variety. Every plant is different, you just need to remove soil in intervals to let new roots develop when replacing the improved soils. Also the yellowing is chlorosis try grafting on a healthier plant and the mother plant sends some of its genetics into the new cutting helping you prevent chlorosis. Also if using cow manure from cattle that are feed sweet feeds or feed lots you will kill of your plants because sweet feed and feed lots use way to much salt in cattle feeds. Hope this helps. your other plants are looking great.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. Yes, soil is definitely a major factor for the condition of the plants. I planted the new cuttings in the same soil in the same pot just to test how the new plants doing in the old soil. I think you need to get your pots off the ground put them up on some pavers. More than likely your native soil is very compact and poorly draining causing the water to pool at the bottom of your pot leading to root rot. You should look into companion planting with sweet basil its roots produce rosemaricacid which inhibits the growth of most species of bacteria that cause root rot.
@xiaoli2142
@xiaoli2142 3 месяца назад
Thank you for commenting. Actually, we have sandy soil. The soil underneath is not compact and full of holes created by worms or something I am not sure of. Drainage is definitely not the problem.The plants have no problem at all for the first 4 years. Only when they are aged, this problem start to show, and not all plants have the same problem. Some have no problem at all, so I think, it is the intrinsic nature of the varieties playing a bigger role here.

@xiaoli2142 if that's the case it might be nematodes because Paul @raredragonfruits has a sugar dragon that's 20 years old and still puts out new growth so I don't think its age related, but either way love your videos and hope you figure out the issue with your dragon fruit.
@xiaoli2142
@xiaoli2142 3 месяца назад
@@thiccchad6690 Thank you for the information. It is interesting to know that sugar dragon can be as old as 20 years old. I have another video that comparing Neon (which I think basically is sugar dragon) and Sin Espinas that are growing in the same pot. One is declining but the other one proliferating. I think that would eliminate the possibility that soil is the cause of the problem. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k6Lp_z0PGI0.html . @xiaoli2142
@xiaoli2142 4 месяца назад
It may not just the soil, because there are some other dragon fruit plants that using the same soil are very healthy without root problem. It seems that only the very productive ones that have the declining problem. My original soil mix had some native soil in it, which are very sandy, so this time I just added the composted manure. I think dragon fruit likes rich soil, that is why the new cuttings are growing very well in this soil. Only when they are aged the problem shows.

@@xiaoli2142 thank you for such a prompt reply. I was wondering if the mother flower is self fertile, self polinating, by the time I cross polinate it, it will polinate itself. How do you tackle that? Or, it doesn't matter if it is polinated by it's own pollen, when we cross it, only new pollen is accepted. Thanks in advance!
@xiaoli2142
@xiaoli2142 4 месяца назад
@@shubhamkankani2306Yes, your worry is correct. If the variety is self-fertile, cross pollination is difficult. It will need to open the flower bud before the anthers mature to get ride of the anthers to prevent self pollination. I have not done this myself because fortunately, the variety I want to use as the mother has been the self-sterile type, which made self pollination impossible. Even so, if you have other varieties flowering in the same night, you need to cover the flower you want to pollinate before the flower opening and cover it after pollination to prevent pollen contamination from other varieties.
