Props for doing high quality work, as everyone should already be doing, to begin with. $200 per axle is not overcharging. You could easily charge another $100 and the customer would still be getting superior service. Your time is very valuable and you deserve to be paid for your time. What’s your average parts cost? I know this varies, depending on the vehicle.
Price is different depending on the vehicle. Some cars it will be about 200 per axle. While other more complex jobs could be around 800 per axle like on citi vans where you have to replace all the bolts and fasteners because they are torque to yield. Also higher end luxury or sports cars will cost more not usually due to labor but because of parts cost …. Also I hope I’m seeing this wrong but I hope you not using anti-seize for your slide pins
I love my powerflex bushes.. tightened the game on my westfalia.. vanagon. Toss them into a pot of hot water.. heatup the water, take the pot off the stove, and the heat softens that so you can do it by hand.
Lookin spec to me! 200+ things to check while you are in there are good to talk about. Extras mean you assure the entire axle/movement/bearings/struts/bearings/bushes.. hardware.
Based on the fact that you cleaned and never-seized the bracket and didn’t throw the new clips out, I’d say yes, your brake job is definitely worth $200 (more actually, I work at a truck shop, our rate is up to $165 per hr, and were lower than many of the shops in the area). The torque wrench was refreshing too.
There's no way this is a $200 brake job...he's talking labor alone. Plus parts but still a better deal than at the stealership. I just got a Rotor and pad combo for my Kia which was $180 from Detroit Axle which I highly recommend. Put them on myself with little trouble just took my time which was about 2 and a half hours, I'd never done this vehicle before. They are fantastic. Saved a bunch of money. Bet this would have been a $600-1000 brake job at any shop.
I will always pay more if it means I get a reliable person - been too many times I’ve cheapened out on my car and every time it’s a headache. Recently started to work on my car (brake job too haha) - took me hours under the sun and rewatching RU-vid videos but I got it done. I now appreciate mechanics more than I used to - especially the honest ones
We can charge as much as we want. If you don't like it, find someone to do it cheaper or do it yourself. For the cost of labor on just ONE axle, you can get more than enough tools to do the job. Then you can find out why people have to quote so much as you run into broken bolts, rusty caliper brackets, seized calipers, seized slide pins, etc.
It's fine you gotta make a living. But I'm 60 years old and I have never paid for a brake job, other than buying the parts. I've done many makes and models and they are all basically the same and they are all very easy to do. I've done domestic, Japanese and European and there's not much difference in any of them, other than minor details. The only thing I really hate is drum brakes. I'll do them but I don't like it.
Hi, my wife got a coolant leak fixed on the main hose but I seen that the transmission emergency mode is on with the lean code on. The snorkel is not disconnected should I vlean the mass air flow sensor or any advice you can help with.
Sometimes that’s a possibility, but not always. Most of the time if you are stepping on the brakes and there’s a shake it’s from thickness variation in the rotors.
Did my disc and pads 2 days ago. US 35 for parts and free labour. Gonna do my rear drums next week and a complete fluid change the same time. Meaning oil change, brake flush, radiator flush and gearbox flush. Love working on my own car.
