Looking to get into solar here soon.. living in my stationary rv full time and boy oh boy this heat sucks. Most important thing for me is definitely keeping an ac going during a power outage. Appreciate the video!
WOW!!! What a great video!! I have been searching for DAYS trying to find ANYONE, who would go step by step, in layman’s terms, and actually show how to do what everyone else just says check this or that!! I also appreciated your video on how to use a voltmeter!!! THANK YOU for taking the time to describe each setting. PLEASE continue doing videos for those of us that need step by step directions!!!!!!
We love our tank water heater in our TT. We drain the water out of our tank before we leave the campground, so we are not taking that weight with us. We also like to use the electric side of our tank to save our propane. We have a tankless in our house and we love it! Just depends where we are at, home or camper.
YOU are GREAT at TEACHING. Question: I just upgraded my hot water heater from a gas only to a gas and electric unit (model number SW6DE). I'm also adding a Suburban Water Heater Relay 232948, and adding a switch to the control panel in the RV. 1st: Where do they typically install the relay? 2nd: Would you have a wire diagram showing the placement of the relay with the 110V wiring and the 12V wiring? Thanks...
Tankless for the win! Loved .my Girard tankess water heater on my Tiffin Wayfarer. Unlike some others it has a digital display for setting the temp. One temp for dishes, another for my shower, and yet another temp for the wife's shower. The key is to ignore the cold water tap. If you are trying to mix in cold water to adjust the temp you are doing it wrong. Beware of tankless units where you cannot set the exact temp at the remote control panel.
I thought I had this till you mentioned tankless freezing. Originally was going tankless mounted inside the RV, changed my mind to exterior mount tankless, now maybe just go back to a tanked w/h. I wonder if I’ll ever finish, sometimes! lol
Thanks for this video, it's a big help. It looks like everything is working OK on my fridge, it cools great on AC, I get flame on propane however the fridge still doesn't cool very well on propane. I typically camp without electricity so propane is a must for me. Any other ideas on what I should look for? It is a Dometic RM8501 in a 2015 RPod 179. I have tried to clean the orfice tube and jet and the flame looks to be the same size as before.
Thanks Emily!! Better half and I have also been to Athens and taking the fundamentals class with Todd changed how we run the shower. We have Suburban 6 gal, and the tip he suggests to stretch that tank was golden. Turn on just enough hot and titrate in the cold so you get the temp you want. In that case , a 6 gal can run quite a bit! I'm still dubious of tankless and we'll probably stay with the tanked ones! Loved the matchup! Winterize with each trip in cold climates?? Oh hell no...
This was a very helpful and very informative video for me. Thank you very much for your efforts. Your knowledge. Your training. I recently purchased myself a new used 22-year-old, Monaco Knight, Motorhome. I believe it has a 10 gallon hot water tank. And I was thinking about getting the tankless. Because I like a long shower. And while that tankless,, was a big attraction to me. I think you've convinced me. To keep my 10 gallon tank water heater. Thank you. In the past. I've enjoyed a nice steamy hot, 20 minute shower. Using proper water management. And a cutoff valve on the showerhead. And a nice, water restrictive, showerhead. Designed for RVs. And I think that will have to do me. After all it does not have a tub. I will miss my tub in my house. I like a nice bubblebath once in a while. I won't be having any more of those in a Motorhome. I'll miss that. I might have to stop at a motel once in a while. Just so I can have a bubblebath. In a tub. I find it so rejuvenating. My life is going into a new phase. At almost 69 years of age. So this was great advice. I value your advice. Especially when it comes to my hot water. It's not that I do many dishes. I don't. I use a lot of paper plates. I use cast-iron saucepans and grill.. You don't really need to scrub those clean. And I don't have people using the bathroom all day. It's just me. Forevermore without my late husband. I miss him so terribly. So terribly. After 22 years together. He was so vibrant. So looking toward our retirement future together. It was not to be. I may still consider a tankless? If I get to an RV park I want to settle into. Then that would be great. It'll have to wait till that time. In the meantime it's just status quo. Thank you. Thank you again. It's always something. RemyRAD
Hi Emily. A big turn off for me with the on demand/tankless is that electric is not an option. You have to burn propane, while you have already paid for your site which includes electricity in the cost. It’s like running your furnace, when you should be using an electric heater.
Simple solution to prevent freezing with a Tankless water heater as long as you have power, put 100 watt light bulb inside the compartment. I've been doing this for 12 years and traveling in freezing weather without any problem.
Liked, subscribed, and in awe! I am proficient with most everything residential and automotive, including stats and electrical. I would have spent weeks or hundreds on a shop. I must have one of those rare MH. 2007 Dolphin 5335 with the basement ac. Ford chassis. Thank you 😊
What causes boiler to get so hot it trips thermal disc….everything checks out ok, it runs….unto it doesn’t……I can reset at thermal disc and it runs until boiler is so hot it causes it to trip at disc again…..
We recently got an Entegra vision motorhome with a tankless heater. It was our first tankless heater. It took quite a bit to learn how to use it. When you take a shower we can only set the temperature and turn on only the hot water. if you try to mix cold water with it to turn down the temperature, It will shut off the water heater because it’s not getting enough pressure through it. A lot of campgrounds don’t have enough water pressure to be able to use the tankless water heater. It’s a pain to have to fill your freshwater tank and run off the pump so you can have hot water. We have found that you need about 45 psi to run the tankless water heater. I’d love to hear other peoples comments about the use of these things. Would love to see a video on how to clean and winterize the tankless water heater from you Thanks for all your videos. I’ve learned a lot. Keep up the good work.
I hated my tankless. Wasted water, burners on every time you turn hot water on. Maybe showering ok but not for normal every day use. Heat up your water before traveling and you have hot - warm water during your travels, and you don’t have to have your LP valve on.
Our Truma tankless water heater is the best of both worlds. It has a 1 liter tank. If the control switch is set to "on", it will pre-heat that 1 liter of water so it is ready to use on demand, so there's no heating delay. If the control switch is set to "eco", it does not pre-heat that water.
Just a question. Doesn't the tank less waterheater still have 12v connection while traveling down the road? If so would it still have freeze protection? Again just wondering new tech here.
Hi Emily. Thanks for another excellent video. We have been RVing for over 50 years, and are on our 3rd Airstream. We currently have a 19ft Flying Cloud with a tankless Girard GSWH-2. We enjoy state and national parks, as well a corp of engineers campgrounds, with occasional boondocking or Harvest Host. We have had cases where campground water pressure was low, and would not keep the Girard going. In these cases we had to use the water pump and fresh water tank. Also, during winter camping, when temps were below 40, the Girard struggled. Our grey water tank is only 27 gallons, so long periods to warm up the water is an issue for use. We are considering 'up grading' to a tank water heater. We never had any issues with a tank type. Thanks again for you very well done videos and valuable information.
Question. If I have a pop up camper, and left the ac running all day while camping. about 98 degrees outside. and had no issues, but then overnight left it running as well and it froze up in the middle of the night, do you think this is an airflow problem? I left it completely on just high fan no cooling for ohhh 40 minutes, and then turned it back to cool and it started cooling again. Sorry for the question, I don't know many people that do the RV thing and just trying to learn as I go
Thanks Emily. You raised some interesting points that I had not previously considered about tankless water heaters. Great information for anyone considering going tankless. Love your clear and entertaining delivery style as well. Your now my go-to for all things RV repair. Keep em coming!
You realize your boasting about certification by and in and industry without lemon laws? While using and recommending a non calibrated error filled piece of Chinese crap as an instrument of calibration, all of which really prooves nobody should be listening to you. God I miss when certifications and training had real meaning! Demonstrate true understanding of Maxwell's equations and I will consider what you have to say. Lol.
Just subscribed. I followed your troubleshooting procedures step-by-step and found my heating element was open. Installed a new one and within an hour had frost building up in the freezer. Thank you!
Informative. But mine shuts down completely after 4-5 mins. It’s a dometic a/c . Filter is clean. Only been ran less then 2 hours. It’s on a fiber splice trailer. It runs solely off a 5500 inverter generator. No ducting .
