Ditto about the WNBA or should I say 'Caitlin Clark' basketball league. The push for relevance has been going up the past few years, but right now it is crazy. Next we'll be getting headlines about her favorite toilet paper.
There may be players with higher upside on this team, but that other team had a lot of experience. And I try not to think of what could've been, because it hurts too much.
In the world of NIL, why are people still talking about scholarships? Do the limitations on scholarships even matter even more? If tuition is $7,000, give the kid the money and save the scholorship, right?😊
Great point. I bet they are paying Tripplet enough to at least offset tuition and other expenses to get him off the bench. But as of right now, it's still a status thing. Will be interesting to see if that changes
Saunders has been moved to guard per his discussions with Young. Partly due to his best potential at next level. Of course, things could always change later.
I missed that tidbit. It's interesting but makes sense and still fits. They can call Saunders a 2 and Demin a 3, but I think ultimately it will be positionless with a lot of switchability.
What is BYU's ceiling for next season with the addition of Catching? I should point out that while I was pronouncing Kanon as "Cannon", it is actually "Canaan."
All these commentators have focused on "money", but Kevin Young brings the PROMISE of NBA-level training. Serious ballers can relate to that REGARDLESS of the NIL. ("You can pay me now, or you can pay me later"). I don't want the player in my program who is only focused on the NOW. (I'm thinking Bo Gentry in "Trouble With the Curve")
I do like your proposed new SunBelt conference. I am a WKU aluminum. I don't want them in MAC. They belong in South. It would be great to be playing Memphis, South Florida, Florida Atlantic, Middle Tennessee, Arkansas State, South Alabama and Georgia State. The will better in football and basketball. Wow an awesome baseball conference. With regional conferences hopefully would put more fans in seats and money for schools. I hope this can happen in the couple of years.
I'm glad you like it. I don't have a much knowledge of many of these teams and their histories, so I wasn't sure if I was completely ruining some longstanding rivalries.
I can see the ACC or maybe the or maybe one of the other conferences that are not the Big Ten Or SEC doing this I just feel like there is too much pride for them to do it I could see the Southeastern Conference or the Big Ten jumping in on the private Equity wagon just not the changing of the names there is just too much pride for them to do that
What worries me is BYU can recruit anyone basketball is different from football but these kids better not get in trouble??? I'm not LDS & love BYU I wish they didn't have the honor code they have!!! Basketball is different from football there are 1 year deals??? What I don't like about their honor code is there religion is all about repentance and 2nd chances in life??? I guess we'll see if BYU can influence their religion preach or fold at the hips??? I hope they can have an influence from their experience more than their not good enough for BYU!!!
First of all, there have been non-LDS kids playing for BYU for a long time. They know what they're signing up for when coming to BYU. It also means we miss out on a lot of recruits because of it. Second, it is all about repentance, but that doesn't mean there aren't consequences for our actions. But look at Brandon Davies. He broke the honor code and had to miss games. But he was able to come back and play. There have been other less public examples too.
Great show guys! Kalifa was fun to watch but we didn’t have a rim protector and the d really took a hit when he was out there. I think he will not be missed. ( at least not by me)😂
But that's why you bring in a guy like Mag. No necessarily a rim protector, but to improve the overall defense. But it doesn't seem like Kalifa fits what KY wants to do anyway.
WELL, WHAT ELSE ANY BETTER, VOULD HAVE BEEN DONE. NOTHING. BUILD FOR THIS YEAR, BUILD FOR THE FUTURE. BUILD FOR BETTER TEAM UNDERSTANDING. BUILD FOR A LONGER, STRONGER TEAM. BUILD FOR A BETTER OFFENSIVE TEAM. BUILD FOR A BETTER DEFENSE. BUILD. FOR A BETTER PICK AND ROLL. CHOOSE GOOD PEOPLE TO FIT THE HONOR CODE, FAMILY STRUCTURE. BUILD TO MAKE NBA PLAYERS. HOW ABOUT, ALL OF THE ABOVE. HIRE COACHES WITH NBA EXPERIENDE. HIRE COACHES FOR CHURCH OR UTAH AREA PLAYER'S. HIRE WEST COACHES. HIRE EAST COACH PLAYERS. HIRE OVER SEAS COACHES. HIRE YOUNG OLYMPIC PLAYERS COACHES. MONKEY SEE, MONKEY DO. WE WILL SEE END OF NOVEMBER. WHAT ABOUT THE H FOOTBALL EXPE TATION NOW
Yes, you have to build for the future. Part of that is showing it can be done this year. Winning will attract more talent. I think KY can do both. Hopefully that's how it plays out.
Miami was supposed to come in with Virginia Tech and add to the FSU and Clemson football prowess. Instead, them and VT to a lesser extent have both laid huge eggs.
Clemsons little dynasty was led by two generational QB’s. Their era of dominance is over and FSU is gonna take a step back. What makes Miami unique is that even after 2 decades of irrelevance, It would only takes a double digit win season to start hearing the “U is back”, ratings to shoot up and them to be the most sought after team in the ACC. FSU and Clemson are on the dance floor, But the SEC and Big 10 are staring at Miami over at the bar and waiting for the right moment lol
FSU has evidenced high brand inertia and has a more stable extended fanbase than MIAMI. CLEMSON has yet to prove high brand inertia and would have a smaller natural extended fanbase than FSU. Of those three and ignoring the different perspectives of the SEC and B1G, it's likely FSU, MIAMI and then CLEMSON. UNC and likely UVA are higher than all three from the perspective of both P2s. The BIG12 would take the three over the flags.
I do have the same questions about Clemson. But you have to think they have a really good idea that they'll have a home if they're going through all these legal proceedings.
@@tarheel7406 FSU does not have a bigger national fan base than Miami. They definitely pack a stadium better because what else is going on in Tallahassee? It also doesn’t help that a major part of Miami’s identity was destroyed the day the orange bowl was demolished.
@@Ryan-vq5ur Please read closer. I wrote "natural extended fanbase" not "national" Frankly, if FSU's brand was as big, valuable and respected as many like to claim, there would have been no CFP snub. (This ignores any effects from the barking.) If the roles would have been reversed, I maintain that CLEMSON (recent success), MIAMI (national brand), and UVA/UNC (old money and influence) would not have been so snubbed.
At the end of the day, this will come down to an agreement between SEC/ESPN and B1G/FOX. Having said that, there is no way all 3 top schools in Florida end up in the same conference. The question is how they split up FSU and Miami. FSU is a better fit in the SEC. SEC wants FSU. ESPN wants FSU. Miami is a better fit in the B1G. B1G wants Miami. FOX REALLY wants Miami. There is a scenario that is a win-win for all parties involved: FSU & Clemson go to SEC Miami goes to B1G... which entices Notre Dame to finally join also. ESPN then offers a new TV contract to the leftover ACC. I know FSU fans hate the SEC.. but $$$ talks. FSU will not turn down an invite from the SEC.
FSU is disposable to the SEC. How many times does this have to be reported? Reporting and credible claims re: SEC interest in MIAMI has been less consistent. MIAMI (and ND) got unworthy AAU invites and were reported as B1G vetted. FSU (and CLEMSON) didn't and weren't.
Let’s watch over June/July/August to see what happens with FSU and Clemson. I suspect just in my opinion that they will not be in the ACC for the 2025 season. The attention at that point will turn sharply to UNC/UVA/Miami and in my views these teams will be on the watch list to not be in the ACC for the 26 season. Interesting summer ahead…
@@saturdayswarriorbyu I agree. I can’t imagine Miami being left out. I do think they are a BIG 10 school. I would like the idea of a trio deal with ND and UVA. UNC naturally I am inclined to say they are a BIG 10 school as well, but everything being reported is leaning SEC.
It will be interesting to say the least. I think part of the reason why Miami administration is going all in is to remind everyone what ratings can look like if Miami performs as expected in some preseason polls this year. But they have to do it on the field.
BTW... UNC has beat MIAMI ~4x straight in football. If I blamed officiating if the situation was reversed or for UNC underachieving, I would rightly be mocked. The reality is that MIAMI has failed as an expansion measured by reasonable expectations. The ACC even set the original divisions based on MIAMI being consistently competitive. MIAMI and/or its fans blaming the ACC is pitiful. They should be arguing that, notwithstanding its clear failures, it has retained some national interest and brand.
@@saturdayswarriorbyu MIAMI moving was the correct decision. The hodgepodge old BIGEAST was never going to remain stable or competitive with the need to get to 12 members for conference champ games. MIAMI's mistakes were demanding CUSE/BC as a +2 and then being apathetic to its football withering.
Totally get that thought I’m not sure where I said that Miami performed up to expectations just relaying that Miami fans don’t like the ACC and obviously when it comes to fandom, sometimes facts don’t match the feelings. I think it’s a bit of a stretch to not say that the ACC doesn’t have a tobacco road bias though. Pretty sure the Florida State and Clemson would agree.
@@RockandRant1 a) I stand by my original comment. b) T-Road hasn't run the ACC for decades. Football focused expansions were needed; they just failed to meet expectations. Creating security for a long-term plan was reasonable; unexpected events made those plans fail. I have no problem with accepting the realities of the current and the need to do what must be done now. I have lots of problems with unreasonable and dishonest assessment of blame.
If Miami can return to being the []_[] of the past… without a doubt…. The []_[| will be the biggest brand in the ACC & most sought after…. Before Clemson made their playoff run prior to 2014 …. They were around the 60th plus revenue generating team in college football…. Karen State University (FSU) will have more to CRY about after the []_[] puts that beat down on the Karen’s this upcoming season …. You’re correct… UM turned down the SEC & that’s the reason South Carolina got the invite
I can make an a pretty valid argument that Miami has show its floor in tv ratings after 20 years of mediocrity but still showing up top 25 tv wise in a Brett mcmurphy article (few different ways others have calculated it so reports vary) and Clemson has shown its ceiling.
I do not want Clemson in the Big Ten. The only thing Clemson brings is flash in the pan football. Let Clemson go to the SEC. I am not sure about Florida State and Miami. I dont see Big Ten COPC caring about what the SEC is doing unless encroachment into Big Ten Country like the ACC did with Pitt/Cuse. Otherwise the Big Ten expansion isnt like other conferences. We havent poached anyone or engaged in power plays.
@@A1Googler Define "poach".... The B1G has added the following from other then relatively peer major conferences: NEB MARYLAND USC UCLA WASH ORE It has attempted same to some degree: UVA UNC GATECH TEXAS (likely) PITT and CUSE would be considered more old BIGEAST country rather than B1G.
@A1Googler What are you talking about??? The Big 10 took USC and UCLA, which was a major contributor to its collapse. It was also in reaction to the SEC picking up Texas and OU.
Oh please... If FSU can justify going scorched earth, MIAMI can easily justify its realignment strategy. FSU has effectively approached this situation as a lone gunman, while MIAMI appears to have applied with ND.
@saturdayswarriorbyu Well, I can see ND, GT because its TV market is #7 and Miami is #18 plus GT is AAU also. Then, it is the Texas market and please do not dismiss the possibility of A&M going to the B1G before a Miami. I really see Miami going to the Big12. The only way Miami goes to the B1G is if FSU is going to the SEC.
@@Knowityall Give the BYU fans a break. They have wanted to get into the P5 (or an earlier version of the then Tier 1) for a long time. They finally get their chance when the P5 is dying in favor of a P2, but they hope that the inevitable won't happen or just deny the reality. These interviews with representatives of non-BIG12 schools are interesting. The new BIG12 is seen as the option of last resort, but the guests are usually too polite to be direct about that. Again, what needs to happen is for the BIG12 fans to recognize that the future for most of the members is fungible Tier 2 football and discuss how the Tier 2 should best look. For instance, 2 or 3 regionals?
@@tarheel7406 Yep, its sad, it really is. The one that dumbfounded me the most was SMU. Reaching much for nothing? Someone will have to explain that one to me. I'm not too up to date on SMU.
