Hey, take a look at my beginner’s guide and setting up a snap view. It’s the main way of getting stable crosshairs. Mssg back if you have issues getting it working

Grazie Greetings Problem with IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz: Quick missions On the home page of the quick missions, the central window showing the plane has disappeared where, with a double click, a new window opens with all the planes. Window that makes it possible to choose the aircraft to use. How can this be solved? Thank you
Thank! This is quite an old vid. I really need to do some newer ones on Flying Circus. I’m also a lot better at this now than back in the day thanks to the MP community
@@21wagstaff I've been practicing all day, I had no idea the wings can come off so easily. But the two pieces of your advice are proving to be valuable, roll instead of using the aileron and use the ace level for the opponent. It is an entirely different than one uses ina Camel TF .
@@kepler186f4 it’s really, really hard to master but trying to learn in an online server is a waste of time. I treat it almost like practicing shooting in basketball: just doing that one skill over and over again. Once you do get it though, boy oh boy is it hard to counter. The wings thing never sat right with me. You can pull full deflection at breakup speed - IRL you’d have air resistance and stiffening. Again you learn where the breaking point is by snapping the wings time and time again
Looked like you enjoyed it,,,,did you pass out? Not exactly a flying lesson, but an experience. Good to see you enjoyed it, brings a whole new concept to PC Sims and Real life eh?
@@21wagstaff Oh bro bless lol..... it can be a little different to the body eh? :) You would have the best of both worlds then, the sim experience and knowing what it does to you etc....Ive only just got back into RoF lol, yep still love :) Take care be safe o7]
Can I play this with a mouse and keyboard? I want to find a free/cheap dogfighting game more realistic than arcade. I want realism but not literally having to buy extra physical crap just to play.
I’m fairly sure it does but you’re going to struggle. I use a $40 thrustmaster joystick and split throttle which has an axis in the left hand for the rudder. You can also look around using the little point of view stick on top of it
@@21wagstaff I tried using my mouse but when I turned my cursor flew off the game screen and onto my other monitor, which made me have to keep clicking back onto the game window which still didn't work because i couldn't make the turn without having my cursor completely out of the game window
You might be confusing the historical turn used by Max and the Eindekker pilots which is illustrated here and the modern turn which used a half roll and split S. The Wikipedia article explains this well with contemporary training manuals
Remember that the EIII used wing warping rather than ailerons so a 180 roll would have not been as efficient as a pitch up and rudder turn en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immelmann_turn
Can you see planes approaching from the rear? or above? I can't get my hat switch to give me those views. Also I would like the view to snap back to front and center when I let go of the hat button instead, I have to hold the button to swing back and frequently over do it usually losing the cockpit view and crashing into ground.
How Does CloD/Blitz compare to great battles series in terms of flying models and realism? Does great battles have the similar options such as custom ammo belts and bomb fuze setting? How does the full mission builder compare to the one in Cliffs? I love CloD as it complements1946 by having a study of the one theatre that was ommited previously - I was initially put of Il2 Stalingrad as it offered far less content than FB and phaps lacked the realism of Cliffs - but I might be wrong about the latter presumption.
I've never flown a ww2 warbird with a large engine, only ww2 trainers and modern light monoplanes. My personal preference is the FMs in CloD. The planes in CloD feel like they have weight, whereas almost everything in BoX feels twitchy and smooth. I also prefer the damage model in CloD. Cannons do plenty of damage IF you hit, which feels more of a challenge than in BoX where cannons vapourise things pretty easy and AP rounds are fairly crappy. CloD gives you the shotgun effect as described by allied pilots when they used AP + DeWilde rounds with close range convergence. To my knowledge BoX doesnt let you pick the belt rounds. I'd say CloD is somewhere between DCS and BoX, and VR is on the way. I've not messed much with missions builder. You can set fuze timers on the BoX bombs. Hope that helps
Yet another great vid. Coming to ROF from RBII, (where the Se5a was a monster), is taking a fair bit of readjustment on my part. I'm also feeling this Se5a stuff is alos going to help me get a lot better on the FW190 in IL2, as both cant turn for toffee but have great roll rates and a very good zoom climb. (The 4 20 mikemikes on the butcher bird will of course make those snapshots sooooo much more "one pass, one kill") . Yet again, cheers for the amazing info.
The SE5a FM is borked in both RoF and FC. It can’t turn with planes it historically could, retains energy very poorly, and loses its wings with a sneeze. Still, if used right she can still be a tough opponent
Just tried this in the hour between lectures.....IT WORKS! 2 Brisfits on a line patrol (Game credited on to someone else, but it was my godverdamt kill). And didnt get hit once in reply.....Thanks!
Thanks! 100%. If you read Winged Victory by Yeates, he talks about his Camels being BnZed by DVIIs; all they could do was dodge with the rudder. Camel pilots back then most likely would not have risked a prophang due to the stall - in game pilots will though. If I want to kill them I usually take the DXII and drag them up above 1.5km where the altitude throttle gives a big advantage. The wings on the Camel are still trash in Flying Circus so enough wing hits and they will likely rip if they then pull any Gs
@@21wagstaff I love that book! (I've only just been in a position where I could afford a modern pc to run rof, so i'm still having adjust from Red Barron II, where the rear gunners were much less of a threat and you could sit behind an Re8 and just chew it up in safety! Steep learning curve...) But yeah, that scene is great, reminds me of JE Johnsons' account of a similar experience in a Spit 5 vs FW190, Quote: " All I could do was stand the spit on a wingtip, pull hard and wait till they ran out of ammo". Turning ability pre all aspect heatseekers is vastly over-rated. UNLESS the other guy is stupid enough to turn with you. In which case natural selection comes into play....
@@FelixstoweFoamForge Good comparison with the Spit V. Have you started playing Il2 Flying Circus yet? It’s where all the multiplayer action is now plus it supports VR
Good afternoon ----- I'm just now getting back into Rise of Flight, I also just picked up on the Logitech flight throttle that you were using in the video. The Axis is reversed 100% throttle is NO fuel. How did you configure it for ROF? Perhaps you can recommend a web site
@@21wagstaff Thank you found it..... it was in responses / Engine Control throttle ..... I has looking for specific drivers for the throttle. Thank you again have a great night
@@kevinblack2384 enjoy the game!! Make sure you also check out the new Flying Circus add on to Il2 Battle of Stalingrad. That has ww1 planes and VR support…
It seems like a great sim, but I'm hesitating on buying it because of one limitation: I have no joystick. Do you think it's playable without one and just going pure mouse w/ keyboard, or should I invest in a joystick before playing?
@@21wagstaff hey! Thanks for replying. I was about to buy the game out of impulse, but I decided to wait for a discount. (I missed the summer sale, I'm an idiot). I'll save up for a basic Thrustmaster, too.
Could you do a couple of Dh2 tactics videos? How you would fly and fight it? I love that plane but it is so slow that I struggle in hi bank turns. Hard to even stay on the EIIIs tail.
That’s a tricky one. I uninstalled RoF ages ago so not flown it for ages. IIRC the DH2 has very poor performance which is miles off the historical reality vs the Eiii or even the Dii down at sea level where it was known to have an edge. Try using BnZ tactics and always start above the Eiii. If you find yourself on the level I would try scissoring to get yourself snap shots
@@21wagstaff Sorry to hear you dumped ROF. You are really great at the videos. I've seen them all. Some 3x...lol. They have been the reason I made it the first install on my new machine. Thanks for the ones you made!
@@21wagstaff agreed. Nothing I have ever read said it was that much of a slug...lol I've moved on to the Nieuport 11 and going into the camel this weekend. Its great fun. In a couple of weeks I'm going to try flying circus. Then I'll prolly get into IL2 series over the summer. Might skip Il2 for DCS.... dunno yet.
@@SimJunky-jn2cw I appreciate the kind words and I'm really glad it's helped you get into RoF. I started making the vids to try and tell all new pilots everything I wish the tutorials/manual in-game had done! It's really not beginner friendly, which makes no sense from a commercial point of view. What good is your amazing sim if it's totally inaccessible to the average gamer? 1C (new owner of the game) has given up on it, so we will never get a chance to fly the DH2 with a sensible FM (nor a sensible FM for some of the other planes like the Dva). What's even more stupid is that 1C have straight ported all the RoF planes to FC without amending any of the older and clearly wrong FMs, like the DVa, so all the problems you have in RoF are in FC, with the exception of the Camel, where the reinstated the more powerful engine which was nerfed for MP balancing at one point. I'd recommend getting to know the Camel very well in RoF (particularly the stall and spin recover, plus how to dive it without blowing or overcooling the engine), then come to FC and see how fantastic it is in MP!
After getting my new R12, I downloaded ROF. Watching your videos really got me into it. Got a headset and trakir. First pc flight in about 5 years. I set up nothing. Jumped in the albV and went 3vs 3 against spads. Took 30 second to see the furball below. I rolled left inverted and hauled the stick back. As I hurtled down from 2k I realized that my albatross shouldn't have wings by now and I was at 236kph...lol I rolled level over a small river and hauled back again to miss the trees on the shore. Totally missed the spads. I was thanking the gods that all the easy difficulty stuff had saved me when I realized I wouldn't miss the trees. Sheered off my prop and splattered oil on the windscreen before gliding to a nice landing. After the flight I checked my FITBIT and my heart rate ad went from 65bpm resting to 101bpm and back down during that 3 min. I turned off all the help stuff and bought a DH2. Im hooked.....lol
Isn’t it the most incredible feeling? I remember when I got my first online bounce. I remember spotting the lone Fokker below me and pushing the throttle full forward then firing a long (and accurate!) burst and seeing him fall and crash. My heart was thumping like crazy! Are you going to fly il2 flying circus? You just wait till you get VR and you’re sitting in that Dva cockpit
No VR either. Im rebuilding from the last 15 years driving trucks. Only had a laptop with graphics emulation...lol The last flight sim that would play was il2 1946. Great sim but dated. Now I have a tricked out r12 and my mind is blown how far sims have come. DCS looks amazing! But I've settled on ROF to relearn stick and rudder dogfighting
Why BoS is technologically superior to modern CoD Blitz + Desert Wings? I mean, airplanes fly closer to originals and reality in BoS and Great Battle series?
I think it's because the engine for CloD was developed a decade ago and abandoned, then resurrected and patched by enthusiasts who have subsequently monetised their work. 1C most likely have a much larger development team, plus the BoX engine is newer (although I think the source code is based on an earlier engine). Team Fusion have talked about major updates including VR at some point.
Really terrific and helpful: thank you. I've only just acquired ROF and am awaiting delivery (out in Kenya!) of Track IR. I think I shall have to practise a lot on AI before attempting anything online.
Glad you found it helpful! The Track IR really adds to the immersion; only VR tops it which you can enjoy in il2 flying circus. I mostly fly online on Flying Circus now and the servers are busy Thursday and Sunday eves. Not sure about the RoF servers though
Thanks for a very helpful review , that may keep me going for a bit. Just bought this game and first impression was it was nowhere near as good or user friendly as Ils2 1946. Just did my training on the Tiger Moth which wobbled about like a jelly on quicksand. I've flown gliders for many years and a real Tiger Moth and I'm yet to find a sim that gets anywhere near a real life flight experience. Real planes are 'much' easier to fly, although real crosswind landings are a bit 'OMG'.
No, it's not very beginner friendly but once you start to master it I found it very rewarding. I made the video to try and help new players deal with the same problems I had at first. I also fly light aircraft and have likewise taken over controls on a Moth. Something about the controls in CloD just feel like they have real weight, just as they do in real life. With BoX the controls just feel too soft and easy, more like a fly-by-wire modern affair. Stick with it though and when you're ready DEFINITELY try multiplayer, just make sure you climb, climb, climb. There's some seriously good players, particularly 109 dudes, but they really need their altitude to dominate a fight, and many allied pilots scrap below 15k.
Hey, yes! All planes for the base game are included. There’s also an add on for the Africa theatre which includes a crap load more. Great value for money IMO
Holy Crap! That looks like a challenge! I have built my motion sim during the lockdown and need to go flying.. I'm going to get this game and spend many frustrating hours crashing etc.. Thanks so much!! DMAX Oh yeah.. like the way you handled parliament! (Mississippi USA)
@@joshhartley2038 if you ever played Red Alert 2 on PC you’ll know what I mean about the fun of silly destruction. The same appeal of Godzilla movies :-)
Thanks! I hope you’re having fun with this wonderful sim. Outside views have to be turned on in the realism options, and outside views should be mapped to the F keys (if you go into the key mappings it will tell you what f2 does etc)
HI, Waggaz. I have *Limited Fuel*, *Complex Engine Management* , and *Engine Temperature Effects* active in my Realism settings (IL2: CLoD Blitz) but the Boost Cut-Out wont activate/ pull out when I use either the mouse or "T" - the default key for it. Is there another Realism setting I should have active?
tommyzDad strange. It might be the hand management option. If I remember correctly there’s a control meant to simulate hand movements in the cockpit. I remember having a similar issue early on but found a solution on the game forums
