I believe that barking was a natural selection within the broader artificial selection. Guard dogs that barked to ward off predators fared better than dogs that didn’t. Maybe it’s a more impressive threat to most creatures?

What about family conflict so if their conflict between family can the puppy bite between those family member? Especially go up to them even if that family is standing there or if the family just gets up to just go to the bathroom?

My dog sometimes snaps at other dogs if they come sniff her or when I give any other dogs attention but she doesn't bark at other dogs or she doesn't care if they come close to her and if she's in the boot of our car and someone comes to say hello (usually to our other dog) sometimes she's fine but others she curls her lip or growls and if they don't listen will snap. Can you help me figure out if this is reactivity, aggression or nervousness and how to best train her

So how do you take care of a pup with isolation issues? Ours hates the crate and won’t sleep or settle in it alone. Maybe he will sleep for 45 min after I walk away and then wake up and cry and bark and be distressed. It’s not just crying it’s a distressing cry. But he will sleep on t he couch the whole night on a complete other level of the house. He’s 4 months old so I can’t just leave him out while we are gone though I truly think he would be fine with that he would just do puppy things like chew on everything lol he’s not a velcro dog. He will follow me sometimes but he will also just wat me walk away and not even care, or if he’s playing and I go outside to get the mail he just continues on like it’s no big deal but he won’t even play in the crate with me sitting right there. I really think it’s just an issue with the crate. He climbed out of a playpen and we have an open floor plan so we can’t really block off a room for him to be in while we are going to e safely

so I watched this particular video four or five times. I even got out of notepad the third time and took notes. We have a three month old border collie. It is my second border collie. My first one still with us is 11 years old and he is amazing. Always been a little bit subservient calm, eager to please always happy and I made the mistake of assuming the puppy would be the same. I got the dog from the same people I got my first dog from the puppy is actually my dog sister’s kid. He was a complete angel for the first two months then all of a sudden, everything you’ve pretty much described in this video and it wasn’t until I watched this video and humbled myself myself and put my ego aside that I realized I’ve been doing everything completely wrong. I say all of this to thank you from the very bottom of my heart at 47 years old. I realize it’s not about training the dog. It’s about training myself and my actions. And sometimes I need someone to open my eyes up to that at this particular time that is you. I’ve done everything you have suggested. I even spent the first day literally walking around my house on my hands and knees to try to get in the perspective of the puppy. I sometimes make the mistake of expecting the dog to be human. I’m so used to and comfortable with my dog that the new one unfairly was being treated the same, which was impossible for him to comprehend. We are taking him to the vet this week, his baby teeth are probably hurting him so badly. The first day of the new style of training, I did not reach out to pet him anymore. I let him come to me. I let him invite me to pet him when he was playing with his toys. I didn’t reach for them or try to grab them from him or play tug-of-war. Even after only 10 minutes of putting his toys out and just letting him chew, I noticed he was continually watching me as if to say, please don’t grab my stuff. after about 20 minutes, I’ve just sitting in the room with him without reaching out to pet him to grab his toys. He started to back into me and sit on my foot or lean into me and eventually would put the toy in front of me at my feet I separated him from the older dog. I’ve noticed that my older dog in fact has been semi traumatized, and after some inspection of his ears under all that thick, long border collie hair, I realized it he was pretty injured from the little nibbling on him consistently now that they’re separated both both of them seem much happier and more calm.. instead of reaching out to pet and play with him I spent the time just observing his actions and realized whenever I put a toy on the floor instead of just going for it he check to see where his food is where his water is where his bed is like a little patrol to make sure that all of his resources are safe before he can play just like you described. so again 1000 times thank you so much. I’m going to continue watching more of your videos. I’m so appreciative that you have spent the time and that you have the same apparent love of animals that so many of us do that you would be willing to put the effort into help others thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you

Ok my dog (dog a) is new to being around other dogs. He was an only dog for the first year of his life and for the past few months I moved in with my mom who has a few little dogs, dog b(is a small and slow/dumb dog) who stays in my moms room most of the day and causes no problems. My dog is very aggressive towards that dog and I can’t figure out why. These contexts don’t really apply here other than food my dog is very territorial over food but dog b doesn’t get near his food. His aggression outburst are random.

You also saying he seeing it through his lens so hes probably bias will what about the people writing these reports surly they are observing through their lense so whos to say that they are right. Id rather take notes from someone whos actually doing it everyday showing it being done. You keep making this waffel about science being the absolute, if so why are there disagreements theres no objectiveness in animal behaviour its not a subject that can do black and white tests, so individual observations is required what do you think the science people doing.......? Not using their own opinion. Id listen to someone who actually do it and show it being done.

Going to the wolf thing they are a family where as a dog pack aren't. I beleive male wolves leave the pack or get kicked out and sometimes the daughters leave with a rouge male. So if a dog pack wasnt a family im sure they would fight for dominance and establish that ranking. You see dogs being dominant all the time. 100 percent possitive ttaining is nonsense i dont see mother dogs or dogs for that matter using this method to correct unwanted behaviour. Anyone says dominance in dogs dont exist are crazy.

I recently moved back home with my dog, so he is around my parents, brother, and partner a lot. Since I moved back (almost a year now) he has become aggressive only towards me. When he is sitting next to my family members or my partner, if i go anywhere near them, or him (if I pet him while he is next to them) he attacks and bites me. And it’s crazy because he only ever does this when he is near my family, when he is not next to them, he looks to be with me. He was never like this before, him and I lived alone with my partner and he was not aggressive like this :( i love him but not sure what to do.

What if one dog has just become OBSESSED with another dog? After 6 months of living together, our newest dog just decided that if our little dog is out, she's laser trained on her and won't let up. Previously they had zero issues. I can't seem to find any videos or info specific to this.

I have an extremely fearful dog. She’s like an etch a sketch. She will be fine in the house nothing going on and suddenly she’s shaking petrified unresponsive and acts like she’s never seen me or my husband ever in her life. We adopted her about a month ago she’s two and we don’t know what her history is. She is so incredibly fearful that we cannot get through to her in any way. She won’t take treats or even pets when she’s fearful. I just don’t know where to start. 80% of the time she’s horrified by my husband no matter what he does and she’s extremely clingy with me. I need help and idk where to even start with a dog that is this terrified at all times. We do give calming treats. We tried a thunder shirt. We found high value treats. I don’t know what her triggers are because it’s random, sometimes when nothing at all is happening. I need help

I am sorry to have to say this but unfortunately again the "science" that you stated is in fact all opinions and loosely educated decisions. I am all for science in everyway possible but unfortunately it is so hard with animals and sometimes we have to use our instinct! Thats whatbits for. I grewbup on farms and around animals all my life. I have a pretty good grounding in how good my instincts are which is what makes me great at my job, i work with sensitive and fearful dogs. We can debate all these things all day long and talk about what the "science" says. But when you are face to face with the sharp end of a dog you are not really concerned with what who said and more acting upon years of experience, muscle memory and yes the ability to be in control in an environment which is out if control!

My training technique is more of a relationship and communication system. Hiwever i would be considered as a "balanced trainer"! Which i dont like as my training is not balanced as its mostly +R, like 98% +R. However the only way, by its very definition, to stop a behaviour is to use something that the dog considers to be punishing! There has to be an end to the division! The community needs to stop thinking that its one way or the other. A dog is a dog and they all learn slightly differently, one dog might need a firm hand the next one just needs a look and then a smile. I also can not stress this enough. Some people dont have the time or the money to take the time it takes to layer +R techniques. I sometimes work with people who are very poor and they might have saved up for a month or two just to get 2 hrs with me!! I have got to get the most amount teaching in in that time as possible and as much as i would love to take my time and redirect and teach slowly, which is always best, i have to get some behaviours supressed immediately in order to counter condition within the time frame. If we lived in a oerfect world wherw everyone has all the time and money then of course the rainbows and butterflies techniques can work well but they are not always possible!
