I'm listening to this as I'm working on a job that I underbid. Just stopped and ordered your book. I'm 6 months into running my handyman business full time. So far I'm averaging 6k a month.
Thank you all so much for the information in this video and from your individual channels. Just pulling the trigger right now and have found you guys to be invaluable! Wish me luck… then again I have more than luck in my favor (besides my skills).
Thank you so much for doing these videos! I truly appreciate the lessons and the links. I like being able to fix my own stuff with help from you and many other handyman youtubers
NO FLIRTING with the clients. My husband was a carpenter, so when the landlord sends repair guys in here I'm always smiling and cordial. That doesn't mean I'm looking for a date and, true story, it does not mean I needed to hear how the one dude could still get it up in his 40s. (What?!?) Had to tell the landlord I didn't want him in here again.
just because times are change to the internet doesn't mean the old ways dont work ask your self if all your money in a bank and the only way to use that money is by a card or phone what will you do if all power is out or all the satilae lites got knocked out of space how would you pay for something then with no cash on hand you find your self woundering how you going to feed your faimly so i say keeping the old ways of doing things is the best thing to pratice in life never know tomarrow is not promised to us
Too much babble in the first ten minutues of the video. Don't drag out a topic for youtube algorithm/pay. Or, make chapters for people not interested in the sales pitch.
Tip #1: do all high paying jobs even if that means making mistakes on other peoples properties just to learn, lieing about your qualifications and unsafe installations that could potentially kill a whole family... Just go for it!!
I am always early, i will drive around the neighborhood and oull up 5 minutes early. And always knock at the exact time we agreed to. Without looking weird to the neighbors. I have sat oarked up the street and had coffee. But reakized after 2 times that looks bad too. Some people will just think something is wrong and that keaves a bad thought for a potential customer up the street. So timing is crucial especially in the morning. When kids are walking to school or the vus stop. And parents are leaving for work at different times ? You are being watched or at least seen. There is a difference ! I think of this way ! Most people do the same routine daily. We are creatures of habit, so a nan may be doing number 2 at the time he normally does. But you chose to show up 20 minutes early. Or worse ! SHE is and your late ! No call, no warning and she had to go. And you were not there again when you agreed. Its your time and its their time as well. Be on time !!! I will ket them know, by my nature and habits ! I am an early guy. You may see me outside, but you are under no obligation to greet me early just because i am outside.
I just spent 2 hours losing my mind because the words on the new outlet are upside down and I wasn't paying attention when I turned it around to put the wires again... 2 damn hours! Thank god I found this video because I was getting so frustrated.
How helpful! Who's gonna notice that yellow tape across the terminals on the new one? Thank God for this video! Probably prevented thousands of casualties; injuries and/or death. 😮 😂
Been toying with advertising handyman work for a while. I live in a 40yo home which has given me plenty of practice in small/general repairs. Post termite wood rot repair, seems to be my specialty Lol.
Glad I stumbled across this, but it was your philosophical comments from 14:00 - 15:38 that twlls me you're a person 8f good character and someone I would consider hiring uf I werent going to do it myself. (Just dont understand why you didn't put more localized hand pressure to hold those two joints at 16:48, considering you couldn't do the quarter-turn that's usually tecommended for PVC joint glue-ups.)
Thanks for the info. I have had customers who are terrible that ask for estimates on everything.want to Farm out the terrible costly danherous demo parts of the work to get a bargain price on an install..using another contractor...want more than I came to look at.. ask for me to "take a look at" expect I can do magic repairs.. and hold the money up untill I do 3 last jobs i include for free.. like fix a door, toilet, or some other problem like noisy heating system.. and they expect to jusy say thanks or accidentally write the check out for 20 or so dollars less rounding it down to the nearest hundred or 50 bucks if its 420..and say oops i wrote the check out for only 400 is that o.k?? The nerve of some people...I wont go back to screw in a light bulb for them after that...
