This channel is focused on mobile audiophile products and experiences. I spend most of my time on the go, hiking, running and having fun outdoors and so I will review stuff that can be used as such. I have recently both had my ears professionally cleaned and hearing tested which is around 18.5khz. I am a long time basshead but I also produce and mix music so I have a critical ear for things that sound 'correct' in a studio setting. At the end of the day this is all about enjoying music!

Could i replace the lasered off Texas Instrument Opamp at 0:49 with sparkos using a Solder Iron? I really like this product cause i need something replaceable and small. Would help me out a lot if you commended.

Just ordered one and plan to bottleneck it with my FiiO K5 pro ESS as a DAC for a while until I am able to afford a J2 or J3 DAC.. haven't decided which AKM chip I want yet.. 500 bucks for a DAC and then having it shipped to EU + import sales tax hurts. Same goes for the Archel 3 pro, but I want to try it so yeah.. I basically need to pay 130 bucks to get it to Europe ;_; Hope it will be worth it. Sash Tres SE planars are my main headphones I plan to drive them with, but I'm also curious how my 6XX and my Aful Performer 5 IEMs pair with it.

My experience of the SU-1 is that it cost me £67, and easily outperforms my Cambridge Audio Dacmagic 100, and my Audio GD 11.28, costing £150, and £250, respectively.And my system is a relatively modest £3,500 setup.
I loved your comments about SMSL acting like geniuses, lasering off chips. They must think their awful products are worth copying by their competitors. 🤦🏻🤷🏻🙄 I already had a terrible opinion about SMSL because of other products I tried, specially a headphone amp I bought for my mobile phones with 3.5mm connections. It was like 15 years ago. A "cheap" mini-USB powered unit, poorly built with a volume rocker that wasn't even properly mounted. It amplified sound very slightly and added lots of background noise/hum. An absolute pos! The SU-1 DAC is just a wannabe product, it has tons of positive reviews that probably were paid for by SMSL... It sounds thin, artificial, extremely harsh and irritating. There is a term generically used to sort of disguise the truth which is "analytical". No way it is analytical! It's horrible, headache inducing, fatiguing. Sent mine back to Amazon as quickly as I could. I have two Hidizs DAC/AMPs with ESS chips, one is a dongle and the other has an internal battery. Both sound very good and are worth every cent I paid. I wouldn't pay 5 bucks for the SU-1 now that I know what it is like.
What are you guys using these days? As someone who's been using an LG V20 and now a G8X for the last decade it really sucks that they've left the business. I really have no idea what I'm gonna use when these can no longer keep up. Thankfully, the V60 and G8/G8X are no slouch when it comes to specs and Lineage OS is even available for some models too. (Sony's phones looked pretty nice, but go figure that they're quite rare, so therefore expensive here in the US, so I haven't looked that close into them yet.)

I don't understand all the hate. I appreciate the share. At least I now know what the SMSL SU-1 looks like on the inside. I was curious to rather you could upgrade the opamps which I assume are the NE5532 TI chips. But, since they are not upgradable I lost interest in this little DAC.

Does the Pole the vent mod only work on planar? Been looking for a way to add soundstage and /or reduce 8k, to a few single DDs. Curios too if there is a mod that brings up lower mids? Thanks!!
Idk, maybe i did something wrong but the mod is sounds like shit. I took out the foam and blocked front went with ankther foam. Highs in some tracks at high volume now are making distortion, mids are gone, when i heard some extra guitar details before i dont hear them anymore. And the headphones doesnt sound any spaches, i even feel opposite, it became more shady and compressed in turms of sound stage. So im going back to stock, sorry... P.s. been using rose gold nozzles and stock balanced eartips.

Hi, how did you pop them open? One of mine has loose soldering and I wanted to get them opened to potentially fix the issue, but even after applying some heat (with a soldering iron), I could not get them to open them with my finger nails.

I agree with you. I love mid bass. I listen to metal and loud. I retune all my sets. Around 80 by now in 3 different ways. I notice that if i tune my mid bass high is perfect for volumes above 85db . When I lower the volume to 60db. Then the mid bass bloats the mids. Because when we raise the volume the frequency without air is the frequency that upper mids and treble are, and with volume they go up to 4 dB. But mid bass and bass does not affect in high volumes . So it's good for loud volumes to have a mid bass that ends in 300 to 500k . If volumes are low. Theb is better to get a iem with lower mid bass.
Just came here from your Timsok TS-316 review (you saved me 500 schekels, thanks). Now those EA500 almost drove me nuts, especially the bass. Took me a while to find the right nozzle/filter/tip/source/cable combo and to go through some mods but it was so worth it ... finally with some excellent recordings those suckers just disappear ... mission accomplished, not bad for less than 80 Eurons. Keep it up!
you just demonstrated that there is inaudible crosstalk at a higher level in single ended output vs balanced output, and now what ? if our source has both output and we have the option to buy our iem with a 4.4mm cable at no extra cost then sure let's use balanced, otherwise we should not spend extra $ to get balanced audio as it is inaudible anyway
How would you compare soundstage of revised version with the og,and maybe compare revised version with supermix 4.Bear in mind that You can find mp145 for under 100usd now,and sm4 for a little above 100. Best Regards
