Interesting suggestion to tilt climbing rose so roots grow away from wall - I’d never seen or thought of that, but it looks more stable as well as avoiding dry area at base of wall. Thanks!

Why do you need the styrofoam at the bottom of the pot? Will it not prevent excess water to flow out of the drainage hole?

My DA rose Silas Marner is not nearly as well developed as that one you have there. I plan to pot it up for months to grow before planting in the ground.

Why does she say "so the union is below the soil," as there is no "union" on the DA potted roses, according to the DA catalog and website? They both state that the potted roses are all own root.

I have a climbing rose which I pruned this year, I pruned the new growth back to four inches - ending up with five strong canes covered in four inch stumps. This year the rose has lots of growth from the stumps, but what do I prune next year? Do I cut off the stumps altogether or leave them? If I leave them then should I cut above or below the new growth?

I ordered three bare root rose I’d be amazed if any one of them hit these standards !! I emailed when I recieved them was told they were healthy plants🙄 come spring very poor showing, emailed again and then again and then phoned and was eventually able to pay £30 amd get them upgraded to potted plants which are being sent out this week. A resolution but my goodness what a work up to get it !! Takes all the joy out of it

Shame she has a rather nasal sound to her voice, making it difficult to make out what she's saying. Also, she forgot to mention mulching, which is mentioned on the website as the final step.

If I have my rose in a pot that is covered by my roof awing, should I water? I plant on planting a climber in a spot that get some rain in the winter but only if the wind blows in that direction so I anticipate that my pot could possibly dry out.

Would a coarse bark mulch work in a pinch? I have not found a good mulch yet here in the Netherlands that’s organic and weedkiller free. I have my own compost but not enough to do all the borders.
