We spent years exploring on weekends just to see what was out there. Eventually we came up with the idea that it might be fun to video those interesting things and hoped others like you might like to take the "Off Ramp" to adventure with us!
If you're talking about the "Windmill", we actually stopped at took video but it didn't get included (for some reason)...if there was anything else we missed, let us know! Thanks for watching!
Been to the Indy museum and did the track tour back in 1987. That gas station was neat, but the houses were very cool. Too bad the racetrack was off limits. Thanks for the episode!
There wasn't any racing we did find out about something racing fans will enjoy at Indy soon! Thanks for watching! Don't forget subscriptions to our channel are free and help keep us on the road!
We evidently had an information fail, too. Guess that's what can happen when you look up info online. Thanks for the correction! We appreciate your visit!
Yall hit a lot of cool historic spots in this one. Interesting to learn what victory smells like. LOL. The story of Jungle Park Speedway is fascinating and sad. I had never heard of a rotary jail before. Very interesting. It did sound unsafe as you described it. So I am not surprised to learn rotary jails are no longer used due to related injuries. Thanks for taking us along on another very interesting day trip!
Hello I see you spend a lot of time in my backyard in Florida. If you would like to see where Henry Ford gathered all the moss for the car seats let me tell you places to go to make videos to complete this story. For starters head down the river to Weeki Wachee State Park. Catch a mermaid show, learn how an U.S. Navy Frogma trained his family and friends to be mermaids, and learn about the movies filmed there. Take the boat ride. Currently massive river restoration to allow boats to get back down the river further again. Can still visit the original monkey island minus monkeys as they moved to an air conditioned and heated new island a few towns away. Lol Then head down 19 towards Homosassa. On the way you will see one of only two surviving Esso Dinosaur gas stations built in the 1920s. Current owners have restored the building to original condition and still operate as a working garage! 20 minutes from Weeki Wachee you will get to Homosassa State Park. Here more movies were filmed. The boats here still operate the full length of the park. Beautiful ride. Boat #1 was built for the New York Worlds fair and still runs today on special occasions. Homosassa has an underwater viewing room for seeing manatees. It was pushed into the springs using bananas as slipway so as not to pollute the water! The plant for Henry Fords moss factory was also here, although you can only see the foundations of all the buildings left a working model of the train (called the mullet train) is in the gift shop. Mullet train moved passengers and freight as well. Near thing about model railroad is the narrator is none other than Jean Shephard as he winters down here. John Lithgow also has come for visits to read his children’s books here. Homosassa also has an amazing hospital for manatees and other wounded animals. Not to mention one of our oldest citizens and the only naturalized citizen in the world that is a hippopotamus and a former movie star!!! Sorry for being so long. I am the nerd in the family that visits weird and fun places.
This brought tears to my eyes. My wife and I used to go to the drive-in almost every weekend. Around 2000, I had restored a classic Jaguar e-type roadster and we took that for many years. The manager and staff got to know us and we were always greeted at the ticket booth and asked if we were having the usual nachos with extra cheese and jalapenos? The intermission film was a classic. Our drive-in used the platter system where the film was spliced together on a huge platter so they didn't have to do changeovers like in the old days. One time the manager found an old reel from the changeover days and gave it to me. Sadly it closed in 2009 and is now another strip mall.
I wish you and your wife could still go to the drive in together! I can tell your time together will always be considered special. We're really glad you liked our video. Thanks so much for watching!
That is awesome! The Jefferson Davis memorial would be right up my alley! Hey, every time one door shuts, another one opens! There’s always a plan B! 😉 Great video!!
Next time check out Hinkles Hamburgers, and go up HW 7/Cragmont street, and see hanging rock. Clifty falls state park is incredible. There are too many things to list.
Here in Jacksonville Florida years ago we had at least 12 drive ins here I worked at one from 1976 until 1981 the Midway drive in we had so much fun back then 10$ a car load dusk till dawn classic horror movies then Walmart and land developers took it all away from us
Movie production companies are making it very expensive to show first-run movies in places like drive-ins...I think that's making it very attractive to sell your screens to big developers... Thanks for the visit and comment!
Sorry for any confusion, but we were in several towns and tried to either drop in a label or just speak where we wound up. Thanks for watching and commenting!
This looks like a lovely bed and breakfast. Patti's 1880's Settlement looks cool. I assumed you filmed this at Christmas time since all those lights were up. They just have lights up like that all year? Grand Rivers seems like a great town to explore. Thanks for sharing it with us!
Believe it or not, it was mid spring when we did the video. The town just decided to light up for Christmas one year and never take them down. (Makes for something of a surprise tourist attraction). Thanks for checking in!
Hi nice to meet you. Casey looks like a really cool and fun town. Loved the giant rocking chair. We really enjoyed walking around with you. We would love to put it on our list of places to go when we come to America. We have liked and subbed. Chelsea and Mike from England 🏴
The location is Briarwood, home to the Kentucky Highland Renaissance Festival, a permanent installment held for 8 weekends every summer (June 1 to July 21, 2024). Normally there is a Viking encampment during the Ren Faire, as well as a Viking Weekend. It seems you had never been before, so I do hope you'll return!
This is a fascinating video! I had never heard of Rose Island. It is so interesting to tour ruins and see what is left of areas that have experienced such devastation. We enjoyed hearing about this amusement park's history. It is sad to see a place that brought so much fun into people's lives all wiped out in a flood. Thanks for showing us this place!
Well this turned out nicely even though it was not as intended. You found lots of fascinating and historical gems along the way. Makes me want to slow down when traveling past small towns. Seems there is a lot of cool stuff to see along the way. I like your idea of numbering the Kentucky road trip videos. Thanks for taking us along!
Another great video! I saw it come out earlier while I was at work and couldn’t wait to get home to see it. I really like that you focus down on those historical plaques for few seconds so we can either screenshot or pause to read them. Also, a great idea in numbering the videos like Jim had mentioned. Then you can add them to a playlist and we can follow them in sequence that way. Just a thought. Hope you both have a great rest of your week!
You gave us some great ideas as well as another energizing compliment, thank you! Looks like we'll start numbering them from now on! Thanks for the return visit!
Hello from Naples, Florida. Very nice!! An awesome road trip, for sure. We enjoyed. Thanks for sharing the amazing views with us, have a great week 👍 💯 ❤
Thank you for a detailed tour, on my bucket list to visit Metropolis. There's so much stuff you can buy, though I'm from the UK so I don't know how I'd get it all home!
Glad our video was helpful with what to buy...a lot of people UPS ship stuff home from the country or city they're visiting...Really hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
Hi Jim & Vanessa! You know, after watching almost all of your videos, I’m still bingeing, got to give you credit for doing your own stunts. Seriously though, I’m really glad Vanessa didn’t get hurt too bad during the filming of this video. Like others have said, great view at the top. Have a good one guys!
Its a great feeling to know someone is obviously really enjoying our channel! Thanks for your well-wishes for Vanessa and thanks again for your support!
That's amazing how, about a century later, very little remains of this once-bustling tourist attraction. I've never heard of this before, so thank you for sharing!
