Pretty crazy to me that this was released in 2018. The sheer number of parallels i can make in 2024 are innumerable: the protesters marching against Israel, the Jewish supremacists in Israel, dogmatic supporters of Donald Trump, Putin, or similar figures, AfD, members of Hamas, Hezbollah, RSF, or a plethora of other groups, or even in scientific communities such as Quantum Mechanics’ insistence on the Copenhagen Interpretation. This shit runs DEEP

The mothers side of my sons family as found a way along with ex-military members and a group that I am dubbing we the people have found a way to use similar surveillance as the government to manipulate a persons view on reality. They are capable of controlling the algorithm in such a way many negative videos that make you question yourself and your reality. There might not be anything wrong with you. You might just be surrounded by egomaniacs. Stay strong out there.

Ironically I both disagree and respect this belief of not respecting others beliefs, but I will share what I disagree with it and those of you reading this can decide if you still disagree with me or not. Hopefully you still respect it, but maybe you won’t idk. This is my take though: I believed the thought of not respecting other’s beliefs, as if we have the moral or intellectual high ground to judge others, is inherently egotistical. I personally am an Absurdist and agree heavily with Albert Camus’ philosophy, who if you don’t know you should definitely look into. The Stranger, The Fall, and The Myth Of Sisyphus are all very good reads. Anyways this specific topic is mostly explored throughout his book “The Fall”. Every single person on the planet is wrong about A LOT of things, and this isn’t a theory rather than a fact. You, reading this comment, as well as I and everyone else are wrong about many of our fundamental beliefs. Though most people enter conversations from a point of righteousness, and the thought that opposing views are wrong. This is very egotistical, and with things like social media as well as mainstream media like news outlets trying to make you mad or angry at others peoples egos have been inflated more and more. If you know about just as much as everyone else, then you have no right to judge anyone else. Therefore you don’t have the right to disrespect other’s beliefs. If you still believe you’re right in thinking that you’re heavily more educated than others, let me bring this up: this universe has been rarely explored, and given how wide and vast our universe is and how small the amount of it we have covered, that means every single individual has around the same percentage of knowledge overall. Now here’s the big question that arises from that, is that okay cool so we don’t have a right towards ego, or negativity. We obviously will have an ego though, and we’ll always be negative people in certain scenarios in our life. We will never always be what we SHOULD be, so what’s the point of anything? Well you can still limit your ego and negativity by simply respecting other’s beliefs. It’s very easy to just say “I don’t know much about this person, nor their thinking process. We come from different backgrounds and experience, and morals are all relative anyways. I respect this persons beliefs”. The philosophy of existentialism tells us that even though life might not matter in an overall objective way, we still have things that matter to us because of our own moral compass and our different perspectives. Although nothing has any objective meaning, we assign that meaning using constructs that our brains creates. Stoic philosopher Marcus Aurelius once said, “You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength”. This means that even though we can’t control others actions, we can control how we react to their actions. Why add fire to the flame? The belief that we have a right to do that in the first place is why our world is how it is today, and notice this video was made in 2015. In the video he states that he feels like he’s breaking an unspoken rule, but nowadays it’s normal for people to not respect each others beliefs. If you’re reading this; do you truly believe that the world today, where people don’t respect each other’s beliefs, was better than 10 years ago when they did? Because it seems to me most people would disagree with that statement, and now because of that we have presidents arguing in debates and getting shot at because they won’t respect other’s beliefs. That’s my opinion at least, and if you saw Trump and Biden arguing about golfing as if it had correlation to who should be the leader of a country and still supported one of them, then I respect that. Although I disagree, I respect you because we are both people and nobody’s right anyways. I love you, have a nice day if you’re reading this

18:28 I remembered something suddenly here, something similar. My stepfather was driving me and my mother to a restaurant for lunch. He wasn't paying enough attention to the road because he was talking to my mom and kept looking over at her and was approaching a red light at speed without signs of slowing. I called out "red light!", and he slammed on the brakes just in time to stop at the light, and he got shouting mad at me for "telling him how to drive" and being a "backseat driver." When I was dejected and fiddling with my cutlery at the restaurant, he accused me of "always ruining everything nice we try to do by sulking" and made us all leave the restaurant before we could even order food. I hate that man.

I was shamed into not crying throughout childhood. Me crying was met with intense anger and annoyance. So I learned to keep that inside, to force it back down. Eventually I started doing it instinctively, without even thinking. And it ended up driving me to self harm as a form of emotional release.

There certainly are false prophets and real ones. One of the requirements of the cannon of the bible was for a prophecy to have been fulfilled within the text and for the writing to be circulated for over 100+ years before that fulfillment, Jesus never claimed to be God, but the Son of God, and he was an extremist, early Christians were extremist that none of us would want to become yet they completely reformed the moral paradigm of the entire world through advocating love and compassion rather than aggression, violence and glorifying the scapegoat as the Greek pantheon does. Go look into rene girard. Its funny that atheists think miracles are unique to religion, there are several significant historical "exceptions" where something extra phenomenal occurred that we still can't comprehend. We don't know everything. Don't deify science and instead embrace curiosity of the unknown.

Only halfway through and I feel like this describes what I’ve been through accurately. Doing things for me and being “my little baby” was constantly brought up. I was never taught anything, wasn’t allowed to go to my friend’s house alone at 16 without being picked up before it was dark. My curfew was 6pm. At the same time, I wasn’t allowed to take a bath alone until I was 11 and then allowed to wash my own hair till I was 13. I had to call my Nan to do it but she’d rather watch soap operas. I would sit in the cold bath for hours because I knew that if I washed my hair myself and got out, there would be hours of screaming. At 24 I went home to visit my Nan and got prescribed some medication at the same time. I put it in a medicine box I carried with me. A coupe of days later, she started a fight about me not taking my medication because she’s been counting them. I explained and she made me empty my medicine box to count them because I was “unable to do anything right and lying about taking medication just to defy her”. Glad to be out 💖

My strongest argument against the bible is that god enforces capital punishment by condemning all future human generations to suffering outside the garden of eden becauae of the actions of two humans. Such an action is indefensible unless you think other acts of capital punishment such as most genocides are devinely righteous.

I’m sure others have made the point before me, and probably much better, but it feels like you’re completely ignoring the possibility of bad-faith criticism of Islam. I completely agree that nothing should be above criticism, but often the most vocal critics of Islam aren’t criticising Islam because they’re advocates for peace, freedom and equality. They’re criticising Islam because they’re far-right, white-nationalist reactionary fascists. In the west, we have much more to fear from the reactionary far right than we do from Islam.

While true that many 'critics' of islam tend to be White supremacist of some variety, I think this line of thinking is easily weaponised to deflect proper thoughtful discussion of Islam or any religion.

Theramin, cheers from across the pond! I was raised evangelical, then became Eastern Orthodox 12 years ago after studying church history. My deconstruction began with Vladimir Putin's attempted genocide in Ukraine and the Orthodox clergy's lukewarm responses to be mild (I know lean agnostic atheist). I've also been re-examining John Chrysostom (bishop of Constantinople, ca. 397-403 AD)'s 8 Orations against Judaizing Christians from when he was a presbyter/priest in Antioch. The Terror Management Theory test of mortality salience on positivity towards the Christian student and negativity towards the Jewish one rings as a plausible cause for Chrysostom's increasing vitriolic polemics towards the Jews and Judaizing Christians in his city: "Our churches are not like that [referring to the synagogues, which Chrysostom claimed were houses of debauchery]; they are truly frightening and filled with fear. God's presence makes a place frightening because he has power over life and death. In our churches we hear countless homilies on eternal punishments, on rivers of fire, on the venomous worm, on bonds that cannot be burst, or exterior darkness. But the Jews neither know nor dream of these things. They live for their bellies, they gape for the things of this world, their condition is not better than that of pigs or goats because of their wanton ways and excessive gluttony. They know but one thing: to fill their bellies and be drunk, to get all cut and bruised, to be hurt and wounded while fighting for their favorite charioteers” (emphasis added) (Homily 1, IV.1). ccjr.us/dialogika-resources/primary-texts-from-the-history-of-the-relationship/chrysostom His homilies were first delivered during the Jewish festivals in Antioch, and he was stunned at local Christians joining Jewish festivities. Almost trying to keep the Orthodox Christian echo chamber in place?
