I try to make the most informative videos on RU-vid discussing what it is actually like joining/being in the US Air Force. I try my best to tell it how it is and explain what you will experience and go through becoming a United States Airman.
This channel will show you what life in the United States Air Force is all about, I am also here to give you some tips and insight on how my journey went and what exactly took place during the entire process, so that way you can prepare and know what to expect when you are about to endure on your own journey!
I was there from 1990 -1993 and man has it changed. I would have killed to have that gym back then. I had to go off base at the time to Gold's which turned into PowerShack
im a trans guy (female to male) and would like to enlist in the airforce as a man. is there anything they might ask me to do that would reveal that im trans? (hoping to go stealth-aka people don’t know im trans) thanks! this is very helpful
Joined in 1991... my "dream sheet" locations were Hickam AFB, Kirtland AFB, and the rest were in Florida or California... I got NONE of them. Davis-Monthan AFB is where I was sent. I got lots of sand, just NO water... MSgt (retired)
Now be advised that this was a LONG time ago that I went through this. We filled out our "dream sheets" as part of in processing to my tech school at Keesler AFB. I put in for a couple of bases close to my home town of Philadelphia. I did get my third choice of Andrews AFB because it was the first one that had slots for my AFSC. My wife (who was also an airman) close to her home in Western NY. She initially got Colunbus AFB in Mississippi. When she got there she managed to get a "continuance of orders" to Dover AFB. There we filed once again to get assigned to Andews, which finally worked. My AFSC was what was known as "Overseas Imbalanced", which meant we were going to spend a lot of time overseas. (The average was 18-24 stateside before getting shipped back overseas.) Knowing this I filled out my Dream Sheet when I got to Andrews for the UK, Germany, Spain, etc. They came down with assignments to the UK for me. However, when we filed Joint Spouse, all but the last one got canceled. The last one got changed to Germany. Unfortunately, my wife and I divorced while in Germany. When I got to my base in Germany, I filled out a new Dream Sheet and volunteered to stay overseas, hoping to get to finally go to the UK. I put in UK, Spain, Japan. I got a remote assignment to Japan. Once in Japan I filled out a new Dream Sheet and put in for all the bases that I knew used my AFSC and was on wheels. (My assignment in Germany had been to a Tactical Comm unit and we went out on exercises on a regular basis.) The wonderful folks at Randolph decided I should go to the 5th Combat Communications Group (5CCG) in Georgia. Sitting on top of a mountain I had a lot of time to read regs and found a loophole that got me out of the 5CCG and I wound up back at Andrews. At right at 18 months back CONUS, the spit out an assignment back to Germany. However, the telecommunications field had broken open and I opted to not take the assignment and ghot out instead.
Why are the Tums a problem? I’m really hoping on taking some over the counter Flonase to open my breathing passages , why would anti-gas or anything over-the-counter be revoked?
The term, "Dream Sheet" came from a project called "Palace Dream" out of AFMPC. This is how it worked. I received an assignment back to Thailand during the war in Laos after serving 12 months in Thailand just two months previously. I called my career manager and bitched. He said that the only way I could get out of the assignment was he would post the assignment on Palace Dream for 30 days. If, someone qualified volunteered then I wouldn't have to go, but if no one volunteered then I would have to go right back to Thailand. Fortunately, a qualified person did volunteer and I didn't have to go back. But, the Chief reminded me that anytime he needed me I would have to go anywhere the USAF needed me. I served for 25 years and 10 years of my career was spent in Southeast Asia.
I picked Idaho as my first choice because its one of those states you never hear about. I was shocked when i got it....1 year later i regretted it. My second i lucked out and got Germany.
I like that Aloha shirt I saw in your wall locker. I served in 1989-2004. Was stationed at Cheyenne Mountain AFB in Colorado Springs, CO. Best years of my life!
I was stationed at Goodfellow in 1963/64 with the USAFSS, training in advanced cryptology. Went there after language training at Syracuse University, left Goodfellow for training at the NSA then on to Pakistan.
As a medic got my first choice of March AFB. They had a large hospital at the time. I also got my first choice after a special duty assighnment (MEPS). So take the dream sheets serious.
When does airmen get there phone privileges to call family members? My husband just graduated and was leaving the Sheppard for tech school and waiting patiently for his update.
