Great explanation mate. I got my wheels done at a shop and it made a massive difference in the vibration through the front. After this vid I'd be keen to give it a go myself next time. Nice work!

FWIW - I did the same to my 1250GSA rear wheel using stick on weights and it works great. I ride daily commuting to work at 100km/h and there is absolutely no vibration or wobble at all. For anyone out there who want to change tyres and balance themselves - each tyre has a coloured painted dot on the wall of the tyre. This dot is the lightest point of the tyre so generally youd set the valve stem at this position as it would be the heaviest part of the wheel thus hopefully ensuring you use as little counter weights as possible to balance out the wheel.
@timrundle5291
@timrundle5291 10 дней назад
Have you tried balancing them initially without the tyre and then with? The tyres can be out and some brands mark them at the heavy point so you can use that to counter balance any heavy spot on the wheel. Reduces the need to have so many weights. I do like how clean your garage is and need to follow the same practice!

Great video mate! I had a mate do my rear D606 with a rim lock and I used 7 x 25G weights lol. I'm keen to find some weightier ones as well, did you find anything better in the end than the kit you used? Cheers

put motion pro lite loc rim locks on and you'll reduce the amount of weight needed for balance. lead weights work best you put them on and squeeze them shut.

I've been doing it like that for years. In recent times I've been using a second rim lock and that gets it close. I've been using moose tubes and when they get old and soft two rimlock keeps them on the beed.

I love mine. But! They do need a few things to improve the ride: Safari Tank - it holds the 1st 10 litres of fuel lower than the oem tank plus extra capacity when needed. Jetting and a good quality exhaust make a big difference. I used a JD jetting kit, FMF Powerbomb header and a Wr450f muffler modified to fit. These really woke it up, both in engine response and outright power & torque while still being reliable.
@_JoshJB_
@_JoshJB_ 14 дней назад
All great points mate. Safari tank is a must for adventuring on this bike. The other two, I've gone without. Maybe I should change that!

Put minimal weight strapped to your bike. Have a backpack for the rest, key is when you sit down the backpack should rest on your other strapped stuff. When you get in the dust/sand stand up and all your weight is on the pegs. Just my opinion.
@_JoshJB_
@_JoshJB_ 14 дней назад
Fair points mate. I'm of a different opinion. I prefer a light backpack, destroys my back and shoulders after a while. I try and keep my heavy items in the side panniers. Keeping it as low as possible.

Having driven those 'roads' before, both my wife and I picked where you were riding. But because we did it in 4x4, you got to see many better views then we did (I'd never even try to attempt some of those tracks you did). It goes to show you though, that you see more when riding then you do in a vehicle. Just going a different way to get to a location is what my wife and I love, to us it is what the trip should be. Hopefully one day soon, we'll be picking up our own bikes soon, we plan on doing many trips like this now the kids are grown up. Cheers for the video mate, I've sub'd and left a like. Have a good one mate.

Thanks so much. But you are right, you get to soak it all in when on a bike. Plus you can cover more ground quicker, and explore some places a 4WD may not! Thanks for the sub.
