RockyBottomAcres is a 43 acre homestead in Grottoes, Virginia. Founded in 2020 during a time we all needed a distraction. We haul quality top soil, fill dirt and stone. We also do light excavation work and land clearing. And have animals we breed/sell. You might see some other misc homesteading stuff on the channel too - sometimes we get bored!

Curious... if people are paying you to pick up and deliver mulch or gravel, why wouldn't they just pay the garden center to deliver it? How can you make money picking up the mulch and delivering? If they pay $70 for delivery from garden center, what makes them chose you
Hi, Lee here. I just subscribed after seeing this vid about an air seat. I have a 97 f250hd 7.3v2wd ext cab. 116 000 miles. I want to drive it around a lot with a cabover and my 3 little doggers. I am having a hell of a time trying to find a low type air seat to I could figure out how to do this. The 97 Ford seats are totally bunk. You obviously can relate to having a comfy seats. Especially when it is regularly said that the 7.7 is good for 500,000. That is a lot of sitting. And fortunately my doggies can ride on a regular old seat on passenger side. Have you got any advice or recommendations. Etc. I have talked to a number of BIG Ztruck air seat people but have really not gotten much assisfance. Go figure.....trying to buy one of these seats. Thank you.
I’m struggling to understand how this pencils out at $100 a load. Operating expenses, maintenance, repairs, and depreciation to your truck & trailer alone are probably $100 a load or more. I have well over a decade of experience owning and operating a construction business with the same equipment. It’s a lot more expensive over the long term than you think to operate rigs like this.
Hey there, this video is pretty dated now. A lot has changed in the last 4 years. I believe this be video was recorded in 2020. We now charge $8/mile with a $100 minimum for our delivery charges. We now only have dump trucks; no dump trailers.
This 1 quarry is 45 mins away; they aren’t all. Mulch suppliers are 15 mins, topsoil leaves from the farm, limestone gravel 20 mins away, etc. There’s also speciality products we haul 90-120 mins to get it here, and those we make a delivery fee and markup of material on because we store it. I also have 2 people that drive part time. Sounds like maybe you’re looking for a side hustle that doesn’t require work. :)
I would like to add one to my 303 I would like to see the hydraulic hook up and did you have a trigger already for the aux on your controls I don't so Not sure what I'm going to do for the operation of the thumb
Yes, I already had a foot pedal and my stick was already plumed. I did end up having to add a relief valve. You want to make sure that your bucket curl can retract your thumb so they don’t deadhead to fight each other. If they do, they could bend hyd cylinder rods.
Thank you for walking us through how to attach the lounger to your ATV. I haven't seen anyone else do that in their demos. Bummer about the lock. Do you have any vids about the passenger buddy pegs for their feet? Would love to see how you put those on as well. Thanks!
I'm curious how your getting around the the CDL requirement? as CDL is required by Federal DOT when your trailer is over 10,000lbs (Trailer + load). 5 Tons is 10,000lbs and i'm guessing that the nexhaul trailer is around 4900lbs. Meaning you legally could only haul 5100lbs of load. Wondering if your state has different rules then DOT. As I have looked into this with my truck and found out that I would need a CDL.
It’s not a matter of “getting around”. Federal requirements kick in at 26,001. Under 26k, does not need a cdl. The rule you’re talking about is a trailer over 10k and a gvwr total of 26,001 or more. State regulations do vary in this 10k-26k range though. In VA, totally legal as configured. It would not be if I had a dually, as I’d be over.
Just found your channel today. Looking to get a single axle dump truck myself to start up my own business. Just starting my research and your channel has helped me to know what to look out for when buying a "new to me" used dump truck. Paint job looks great by the way! Subscribed!
Very good work and on budget. suggested improvement 1) longer screen in slope I mean, not in width. 2) adjustable angle 3) two 10 to 20 inches small wheel in the front of the base that would help in transportation. 4) you may add a vibrator but for extended budget. Keep the good work
Maybe you answered this in the video, maybe not. I didnt come across the answer, I skipped around. Why would the customer hire you to haul this rather than the quarry who usually offer delivery service for an additional fee?
Typically access. Sometimes quarries won’t leave the asphalt/concrete. Other times they have significantly larger trucks and the customer might need a smaller load, etc.
The rear? You need to take the wedges mostly off (leave nuts on end). Hit the wedges with a hammer to loosen them. Then once tension is off, you can remove nuts. This will take wheels off. You need to cage the parking chamber, this is done by screwing the end nut out off back of it. Make sure wheel can free spin to know they are caged. Then you must remove the axle. Loosen all nuts at the axle hub. There are cone shaped washers there. It’ll feel tight even with nuts off. You will have to hit the center gently to wiggle the cones out. Then you pull the whole axle out. Then you have to take the wheel bearing/hub assembly nut off and that’s what allows the drum to come off. It’s a major pity fyi, all of it lol
Just a thought. You can make that rake where a thumb would have clamped onto it. Then just set it down to use bucket and thumb to load amd pick it back up quickly to rake. No need to attach or unattach anything that way
i run a landsaping business myself we charge $400 no less in total for trailer runs and we dont have a dump yet yes the material is included plus the drive and convenience and more $ is added if we have to load it for the labor so like $400-$500 is the sweet spot for trailer runs
It’s awesome you have the tools and ability to make this rake and other attachments as well. It’s like you’ve brought being industrious to an art form. Very cool!
do you think that I can drill the 2" holes in the sides of my dump body and use the brackets as a template for the motor mount holes? That way it doesn't stick up and look gawky and will look more uniform. Either way I'm going to order it but just thought you may have an opinion on it as you have installed two of these. Thanks!
I can’t remember if it needs to be in high or low. But take the 2spd off and look at the fork, you should be able to see which way the fork needs to make it smaller. Also make sure your axles are out. I remember I used a chain and a binder to the crossmember of frame but in my case I had just a little piece of axle broken off that was stuck. Be very careful. I don’t know your exact situation but I ended up using a chain and binder to pull it.
I have a 304, same finals I assume since my manual covers 303-305 and says 1 quart of fluid for all. But I’ve never got more than 16oz in before it’s spilling out of the level plug. Which is weird, with a final drive, most of not all the oil comes out when you drain it. Good choice on the 75w90. These don’t like thicker gear oil. I have years of oil analysis on mine where I tried 75w140 for a period. The sampling lab suggested 30wt T0-4 fluid in mine, and not gear oil. So I just did a flush and refill. Diesel is what the cat techs recommend for the flush. Fill it, lift the track and run it back and forth a few times, drain and refill with oil.
Does running track back and forth with diesel in the final drive not damage it? I want to use something to flush mine out but was afraid to run the track back and forth.
@@user-rm4cw9zo2j no, it doesn’t hurt anything. I’m talking lifting the track off the ground and running it back and forth, so no load on it. Just go back and forth a couple times to get it all sloshed around in there then drain it. I think it’s a good idea to flush them every service. If you’re worried about it just fill it to the very top, then pull the drain plug. That’ll still flush it out pretty good without running the track.
Hi wondering if you could help me out, I currently have agricultural tyres on my compact telehandler the tyre size is 26x12-16.5 so the same as skid steers. I'm looking at a turf or as close to turf tyres as possible as I drive on grass and lawns a lot and the agri tyres are causing way to much damage but I'm struggling to find turf tyres in that size. Any ideas?
I have a mini skidsteer that we use for around our small homestead. The tire size is 18x8.50-8 with a five lug wheel. I wanted to try these tires to prevent the factory tires from tearing up the lawn. But I don't see the Mighty Mows in this size. Will keep looking for a good turf tire with the right load rating.
