I am so grateful that you share all these information. It is crucial that a patient understands what to expect to produce the best outcome for the HA injection.
My dad is recovering from a SCA and has had a PRP injection, but he wasn't told that he should stop his 80mg Daily Aspirin tablet after the injection. What do you suggest
post injection flare, within 24 hours and the pain spread from my knee down to my foot and up to my lower back including significant pain in my hip. This lasted a week and is now subsiding but still there at 13 days. Debilitating pain levels, brings all activities to a crawl. Life on hold!
In my experience a post-injection flare is more pain in the treated area. Your experience is not typical and I would encourage you to go in for a personal assessment. I would want to see these cases in follow up if something serious occurred post-injection.
@@SonamMD true, wish some researchers out there could come out with kind of liquid injection or gel injection that could expand in volume and sort of baloon texture after injected into the knee chamber,so it could lift up the bones gap and no more friction in between.....it could help miliions of o.a patients.....
That's exactly what my doctor said, when I asked him about being injected in my left heel: he said it's very dangerous and he will never approve of it. Therefore, I'm using a stationary bike, while wearing compression socks. That part I figured on my own, even before I spoke to my doctor about it. He said, "If it's helping, keep doing it." It really does help!
I had Autocart surgery for my right knee (28mm x 18mm of cartilage damage) and 4 weeks after the surgery, I had PRP (Arthrex Angel PRP), with around 9.8M of leukocytes (if I wrote that correctly?). Since I want to provide my knee better chance of recovery, would you suggest another PRP for it? And if yes, what would be the timeframe? Thanks!
I recently had injections for herniated discs (which I was suffering for about six months) and although the back pain seems to be gone/lessened, the nerve pains in my leg haven’t. Do they take longer to heal? Thank you
Injections for back and nerve pain I find to be less effective than those for joints. However this is not my areas of practice so I can’t speak to first hand experience with patients.
Dear Dr, Sonam, I have just had a cortisone shot,in my knee,an hour ago, and didn't know the dos and donts, but I paused when I saw your video, while turning to Google for help, and I must say you're amazing at making people comfortable and relieved ,with your point to point explanations. Bless you 🙏 ♥️
Does it work for bone on bone? I have no cartilage left in my knees and my hips have some cartilage left but there is so much osteoarthritis that I am going to have both hips repaired. Same for the knees eventually. I am 65 and been dealing with severe inflammatory joint pain since my late 20's. I take relief anywhere I can get it, either opiods, anti-inflammatory meds and cortisone.
You can still perform these injections in severe arthritis however they may work for a shorter period of time. The other thing to consider is if you have inflammatory joint pain, hyaluronic acid alone may not be its best option.
I've experienced with this. Tight and painful in my shoulder and neck muscles. and my doctor asked me to do the rontgen for my shoulder and he found me had an inflammatory in my shoulder rotator cuff/joint. So I got the injection there, and my muscles pain is gone now... amazing 😍
Great video doc, subscribed. From your experience, what percentage of patients with medial meniscus tear can gain back full range of motion and painlessness when running and turning? Thanks very much.
Thank you! This is a difficult question to answer without knowing age, the type of tear, and the mechanism of injury. Usually smaller tears in the vascular portions of the meniscus and younger patients tend to heal and settle down quickly. On the other hand, bucket handle tears and those tears in older patients with OA may be less inclined to settle down with conservative treatment. The other thing to consider is if someone has mechanical symptoms, like locking, catching, and buckling. In some cases, those symptoms may require surgery to settle down. On average about 70% of meniscus injuries can settle down on their own, but like I said MRI findings, and patient demographics are really important.
@@SonamMD I am 48/M with a very active lifestyle. The (to be confirmed by MRI) tear limited the range of motion on my right knee towards both ends by a little - maybe 5 degree or so, however it didn't cause any locking catching type of thing. But it is painful, especially after longer runs, turns during a run, standing up after sitting for a while. I'm considering PRP injection, your video is great, useful and easy to understand.
Dr. I’m going in for my second round of PRP. About 2 years ago I had this done on my elbow, it worked great, so now I’m going to try it out on my knee.
@@SonamMD wish I’d known this 12 months ago because I’ve recently come to the Philippines for stem cells mysomes and I realize that they can’t guarantee the sample will be alive so I refuse to spend $10,000, so my Osseo/Physio here in the Philippines he is putting me onto PRP injections, If only I was nearer to you guys, I’m actually from Australia and I think it would be
Evidence will likely be mixed. You will hear multiple different view points on them. Theoretically the anti-inflammatory effect may be minimal. I recommend people hold off on them for a few days prior and after, but probably not detrimental if you are still taking them.
Does testosterone replacement which affects inflammation have any bearing? Testosterone cypionate specifically. Concerned it would be a strong negating influence. What do you think?
TRT is known to cause weakening of tendon fibres. Lots of patients on TRT are at higher risk of tendon tears etc.. So that is something to be aware of. In terms of its effect on PRP (well TRT does increase the Hgb level), however I cannot comment on the specifics effects of TRT on PRP product.
I found your channel and find it very educational and helpful. I had surgery on my left knee - valgus knee not sure how that happens, the pain at times is at the lateral side of the knee and bearing weight on it, it crunches. Pain or discomfort does not happen until after exercise. According to surgeon which was done 1992, he said there is not too much meniscus left in that knee. Do you still think i should try PRP ?
Glad you found it helpful. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide personalized medical advice on the channel since I don't personally assess each patient. This would need to be a discussion with your doctor.
Hello 🦋 I got 2 shots in both knees yesterday I do have a question up until I got the shot I felt fine I didn’t have a cold and after I got the shot maybe like four hours later I started getting a head cold knees are alittle sore so can’t tell if shot is helping but I just want to no if this is part of the side effects because I feel kinda bad so going to call the Dr in see what he says
Hi I have received cortisone shots in both my shoulders (I have tears in both) 😖 my most recent ones were about a month ago, in both. Do you recommend that I exercise with light weights to make my shoulders stronger? Or what’s your opinion on that? Thanks
I always perform injections in combination with a strengthening program. Your provider should tell you when its safe to begin resuming exercises, but that is usually the goal!
I had hyaluronic acid injections in both knees. I am trying to avoid surgery The injection therapy worked but I continued to work and pain increased again so I am relaxing. I had the injection in July. Can I rotate to PRP before my next injection due in December. Can I be treated by you with military health insurance. Retired military 🪖.
I had 2 shoulder injections 2 weeks ago, spaced apart a few days. Both gave me immediate relief. I was told that was probably the lidocaine. Anyway, lidocaine or cortisone, I am very relieved and can sleep again without incredible shoulder pain waking me up every hour. I'm doing shoulder stretches and feeling great.
@@taropatch9720 I've had some success with HA in bone on bone OA, however I warn patients its less likely to work. I have been surprised however. It's definitely something to try. I also consider a combo cortisone + HA injection as well.
Thank you for the good information. I'm considering getting an injection for my knee and I hadn't considered any of those things. I feel better informed now.
I’m really really scared to have my injections. I suffer with Lupus and over the years the inflammation in my hands has caused the ligaments/tendons to become really thick and scarred. And my fingers tend to lock in position. My right hand is the worst so she will do that hand first & she’s going to inject almost my knuckle area. She’s doing 4 knuckles on the right and 3 possibly 4 on the left. And she’s referring me to physio and occupational therapy. I’m just scared of how much it’s going to hurt and how will I cope afterwards. I’m 47 and live alone. I suppose as long as I can still move my hands that should be ok as I’m use to such painful hands and I cope with that. Any advice please from anyone?
I had HA inj in knee since two months there’s still swelling and pain can’t walk or stand for long time it didn’t help at all made my life worse my joints were ok no osteoarthritis only when I exercised my knee would hurt
