Hard pass!!! The blades or any tool lack hardness with those cheap fakes. They flex.. they bend... and they will snap when you put a decent amount of stress on them. Stress that a real one can handle. I have a cheap knockoff. I also own a Victorinox Explorer and a Victorinox Evo23. The tools are so much harder on the real stuff. Also the overall fit of the whole SAK is way better. If you try to bend tools on those fakes the whole thing moves... even the plates that separate the tool layers move when you put side pressure on a tool. It feels like it can fall apart at any moment. What scares me even more with those fakes is what I see with my fake and many other fakes..... the tip of the main blade sticks out! It doesn't completely fold into the handle. Very dangerous if you want to grab it and pull it out of your pocket... you could hurt yourself. Sometimes it's better to pay a little more.. or 5 or 10 times more for a real Victorinox. At least you know they last for decades or even outlast you and won't let you down when you need it the most. I would not even use the corkscrew on those fakes... You have a bigger chance of snapping the fake into many pieces than actually pulling the cork out of a bottle!😂 In my 30+ years of experience with knives I had some very bad ones. But with the Victorinox knockoff I knew before I bought it, it was gonna be bad. I just wanted to see how bad.😂 It's metal and plastic waste.. nothing more.. nothing less.
Very nice review, actually an excellent review, thank you! But please it's TANto not TONto. Tonto was the Lone Ranger's sidekick. This blade is a reverse TANto. Cheers.
Victorinox purest here. The absolute first item anyone should get for EDC, camping or bushcraft, is a Swiss Army Knife. If you cannot afford an original, then some of these cheap Chinese knock offs are perfectly serviceable. The tolerances are loose, the metal aint great, and they are simply not up to the same quality as Victorinox knives, BUT they work, and the biggest factor in play is that they wont last as long after regular use...... so they might crap-out after a few years rather than after twenty years. Personally I can live with that given the price point. There was a time when I would have said "dont buy cheap Chinese knock off swiss army knives". But now Victorinox are making "Swiss Army knives without knives" because they went woke. Fuck these guys.
Yeah man, I hear ya. I’m tired of all the woke nonsense too, it’s out of control. My first knife was a Swiss Army knife from my dad. Thanks for leaving the comments!
@@OhioBladeandCutlery Same here brother. It was my first knife. I think "modern bushcraft" overlooks them, but they are a toolkit in a tiny package. But yeah, some of the latest Chinese knock offs are decent. Not proud but I bought one recently and it was great. Thank you for your balanced take and sensible outlook. All the best to you sir.
For a bit more just get the Petrified Fish pf818... It's a really good knife with real D2 that holds the edge much longer compared to those. :) I bought this Jufule just to see how is the real bugout. How it feels in my hand and my pocket... Jufule is like a demo version of the real knife, but not a good knife (even for the price).
i have the exact same knife that was a gift and i have carried it every single day for 5 months straight. it's a good back up blade to my other carry as a "just in case". it may be nothing special but i still love having it close by
Pakistani made, you should watch a couple of their videos on their manufacturing process. Fascinating! Truly hand made, not some stamped out blank! You should have tried the feathering with the small blade too. At first I was nervous because I am not used to seeing a leftie use a blade! Ha ha, but you did good!
Sad thing is. All of the slipjoint (grandpa) knives will out last every single one of those spring assist knives. Slipjoint and lockback are the best in terms of..everything excluding fixed blade. All of those was nothing but shit piles or in your words stinkers.
No shit! I just bought one of these from a coworker! Mine has a lot of blade play when I open it. I have to constantly tighten the pivot screw. I'm also missing that middle screw on the handle. Dope ass knife!
So! My Father gave me a Barlow just like yours when I was 4.5 years old. I had it until I was about 25 years old. Used it every day. I loved that knife and took good care of it. Then about the age of 20 I thought about sharpening it for the first time. Holy cow was that knife sharp. I used it even more and one day it went missing. and I couldn't find an exact copy of it for a while. So one day, while in my neighborhood hardware store I found another Barlow styled knife and got crazy and spent $10 on it. This one was German and was soon very sharp. I have since found out that, that knife is worth is worth about 40 to 50 bucks. So I went looking for one like Pop gave me. I now own, I think, about 35 of the old ones. They really stay sharp and just keep working. I now own some Barlows that are now worth 250 dollars to 300 dollars, many more that are not that expensive. They are all very sharp but I still use my 25 cent Barlows like my Dad bought me. They all work the same and have many memories for me. I am 78 years old now and wish my dad could see them. I love my Dad and I love my Barlows. ...........Some are stainless steel and very shinny. The blades on the old ones are carbon steel and stain. They get a very nice petina on them that I do prefer. I do like the carbon blades better. They are easy to sharpen and all you have to do is use them. Keep in mind that they are probably the oldest of the pocket knife styles in the world. First made in 1662. Make yourself Happy and get one for your son or/and daughter and another for yourself. Bob JMJ
the ones they send for reviewers are always nicer finished, mine has some mild mismatch on the handle scales, one of the pins sticks out of the handle enough to feel pretty good, all in all I am pleased for the price but they need to do better, also to knife reviewers STOP TAKING THE COMPANIES GIVEOUTS buy your own online or just stop reviewing! Every company has a higher quality control of review handouts than regular sales!!! it's annoying to get FALSE reviews because of this issue!
Sorry I'm two days late to this party. Been comforting a grieving wife. My oldest brother in law was unalived by a crooked cop recently. Anyway, I didn't design the Hunter's EDC but I liked Allen's style so that's why I chose to collab with him on the Diablo 2. That is by far my favorite EDC fixie. I have two in 80crv2 and one in Magnacut
