Videos about building a fulling life through the creative pursuit of music and asking the hard questions about what we need vs what we want to be happy.
I walked in the shop yesterday dead set on a Taylor 214 ce walked out with the FGX3. I just couldn’t deny how comfortable the Yamaha was and how much better it sounded to me plugged in. Haven’t put it down since Friday
I do think you've hit the right idea that four is the right number of guitars. If I was to get rid of my non-essentials, that's what I would do. Main difference is that for my fourth guitar, I'd go with a P90 guitar. So maybe worth considering swop out the humbucker Revstar for the P90 version, or just changing the pickups. Chris Buck plays a Revstar with P90s and he has it sounding glorious. P90s are very vocal and touch responsive, and flexible too. I made the mistake of buying too many electrics. When like you say, having more than one steel string is more essential than tons of eletrics. I'd like to get a decent auditorium, concert to go alongside my dreadnought, for fingerpicking. Either a Yamaha FS-5, Furch Blue Om, or a Guild M-20 if I can stretch. Maybe get rid of my least played, more problematic electrics: Epiphone Casino (good sound but big, awkward, feels delicate, indian laurel fretboard, and feedback issues) and Squier Mustang (thin sounding, setup/trem issues and dry scratchy feeling indian laurel fretboard).
These are terrific guitars, you can’t go wrong with Yamaha generally - superb quality. Yamaha’s problem is that it isn’t a sexy, aspirational brand, in the same way that say Gibson or Martin is. This is why they’re unfairly overlooked, I think. A pity, as they’re fantastic.
i have a question, does it matter what capo i get or it doesnt? cause i dont have one and i wanna buy one, but i dont want to waste my money or anything so i wanted to ask >_<
There have always been hollow and semi-hollow guitars. Isn’t it just the same with an extra piezo pickup? How does it compare to PRS SE I hollowbody piezo for example?
Это одна из лучших гитар. Martin Taylor Gibson - нельзя назвать гитарами. Американцы не умеют делать гитары. Даже если американцам дать 1000 лет и 100 000 000 000 $ они не смогут сделать ничего подобного!
From a bass player point of view. A solid 4 string and a solid 5 string is all you need IMO. Optional if you want a fretless but other than that two solid 4 and 5 strings that are very versatile covers everything you may need.
How is it with tones when you switch from acoustic to electric mode? Does it always stays where you leave the 3 knobs? Yes, weard question, but coming from other hybrid guitars like Parkwood H4, Crafter SAT, Godin A6 Ultra and they all have separate control knobs/sliders, so where you set it it stays. I was thinking about getting Taylor T5, but since there are so many mixed reviews on forums and thoughts, it is hard to decide. But I guess I need it in my hybrid collection xD
Thanks so much for this great review. My main road guitar is a rain song, and if I am outdoors in the sun, it gets so hot. It’s ridiculous. I have been looking for a lower cost alternative and this just may be the ticket. I loved the blind, mic and pick up test. To my ears, the Yamaha sounded best on the mic and a little boxy in the pick up. I thought the Stonebridge pickup sounded the best - but I totally get the feedback factor. Thanks again for a really fair review.
Great job on this review even if I am a bass player! The “sweep” function reminded me of the “glide” function on most synthesizers. I would imagine it could also be used to mimic some simple slide guitar type parts.
I've been using the phosphor bronze Elixir for around 7years. I love them. I just Looooooooove them. But ok i gave a chance to the XS, and, it felt quiet good too. A bit more bright though, less rounded, little less this mat feeling that i really love on the Elixir, giving a bit more sensation of bassy vibes. Aaaaaannnd, can be just me, but the high B and E strings didn't do good after a month or so... Little new edit to the comment as i did not reach the end of your video as i was writing: From the first example of your A/B test i was 100% sure of which was which, and it just confirm what i was saying about the timber or color of the strings.
I always used elixirs custom light phosphor bronze nanoweb. The problem is I do a lot of finger style and my nails are enhanced with acrylic powder and nail glue. It takes no time at all to destroy that coating with the nails. It peels up and the strings become a mess. They also get very stiff very quickly and when strings get stiff the first thing to go is the ability to do pull-offs. The strings will literally become unable to have that technique used on them because there's no give. I've used the XT daddario strings and I like them, and although they are harder on the fingers than the elixirs, the coating does not peel off because it's not that kind of a coating. It will also take a product such as finger-ease without melting. The XS line is supposed to last longer but I'm thinking the same thing is going to happen because of the acrylic nails. Has anybody had any experience with this and could advise me?
Personally I liked number 3 as it was just a tad bit brighter and janglier with a little more high end than the first two, but nothing sounded bad. The first two sounded very similar.
If you want to slightly cut the bass on a guitar. Might help balance the low end on a dreadnought somewhat... (The guitar in this video doesn't need that... It sounds pretty balanced And maybe a little lean towards trouble already) The D'Addario's do that... They have a tad more clarity but they're not quite as warm. They are really similar strings. What are your thoughts after a year?
I liked 2 the least on the first test. A little too bright. On the second I still didn't like it, but liked 3 even less. That said, I played one of these Yamahas in a guitar shop the other day and loved it.
Maybe those spaces are for cooling maybe that circuit board gets too hot… but either way they should have put a heat sink inside or a screened vent if that’s the case. Also I’d really like to hear the lead guitar and kiss Detroit rock city and see if it sounds the same as it does on the record…
