@@eddymercer6025 hi Eddy! Longest run was probably about 21 miles. I basically used a marathon training plan. I actually may have done the full course as a recce run once before the event but typically 20 miles would be my longest run in training. Quite a few back to back long runs do help though.
That’s the best South Downs 100 vlog I’ve seen so far. Joking apart, I really think it is. I found it very relatable. I’m becoming increasingly likely to sign up when the places become available on Saturday. Furthest I’ve done is 100k this May and I found it tough. So 100 miles terrifies me!
@@conradburdekin722 thank you so much! 430 of us started and there are 430 unique stories to be told. I’m so pleased you enjoyed mine. My furthest was 100k and I had all the same doubts but I enjoyed the training and the race so much that it was definitely worth the effort. I’m not sure I’ll try another but the SDW100 was spectacular and one of the best days of my life. If I can do this, almost anyone can!
Well done, and thanks for taking the time to film it.. I think I’ll do it one day, even though I say never.. just need to get a least one 100k, that I also said I’d never do, done first.. then I might catch the 100mile bug.
@@jamstaa69 we encounter the words “never” and “never again “ quite often! You might regret not trying 100 miles. I’m so pleased I tried it. I was 60 2 weeks before the event and the 12th oldest finisher so it’s probably good that I didn’t wait too much longer!
Loved every minutes Chris! Thank you for sharing your adventure with us! Your perseverance and enthusiasm really paid off. You didn't just run, you ran very well. Super Well Done on your amazing achievement! You smashed it!!!💪🏅
Amazing achievement Chris. Love your honesty with your varying emotions. So nice to see the South Downs Way - used to be our go-to place before we had the beach. And if we ever did this ourselves, at least we now know which is the best checkpoint.
Thanks for this - great video to capture the day. Glad you enjoyed our island. I’m also doing SDW100 so may see you there (I’ve been watching your recce videos). Tiaan (GU36 winner/record holder) is also running. Cheers.
We'd better to say hello to Tiaan before the start! Not expecting to meet him further along the course. Have a great run, Gareth. Looking forward to meeting you :)
Actually Gareth I just checked the GU36 results. I'd better make sure I meet you before the start as well! You were 13th overall and seriously fast! Good luck on the SDW100.
Thank you. This will be my first 100miler so who knows how it’ll go. Will try and be cautious with the pacing and fingers crossed. Hopefully it won’t be too hot either 🤞
That's a great video Chris (AKA NSC) and the production is excellent! It was a fantastic event and a great community. Really good to chat with you and good luck with SDW100 and the Dartmoor adventure (I'll look out for the videos!)
Hi Chris, loved the outtakes!! Sorry you felt poorly at the end, well done for getting it done and in a good time too. I'm doing this one this year. Can i ask how many water/food stations there are and when approx? Many thanks. Have subbed!
Hi Clair, thanks so much for watching! www.newforestmarathon.co.uk/the-race/drinks-stations/ I think there about 8 water / electrolyte stations on the full marathon route - about 5k apart. The first and only significant climb is in Wilverley Enclosure which is about 18 miles in - just when you don't really appreciate it! If you've ever done the Brockenhurst Winter Parkrun it's on that route. The trails are generally runnable and quite lovely underfoot. The road sections, not quite so lovely. We had rain which was fine but the temperature and humidity increased once the rain stopped and I think it affected quite a few runners. Have a great time doing the event this year. I will enjoy following your progress and watching your RU-vid videos, too!
That looked a great course, really scenic. Thank you so much for taking a long, this is our first watch on your channel we have just subscribed for more content 😊😊
I always owned an OK, Rod. The 300 was such good fun but I wasn’t spending enough time in it especially when we started cruising some more. I prefer the OK to a Finn 😀
Hi Emma! Wilverley Plain car park usually has enough space for everyone especially if you arrive 20-30 minutes before 9am. I've found it full just once and drove a couple hundred metres up the road to WIlverley Pit car park where there were spaces. It's just a short walk / jog to the start area from there.
