Chateau Marmont where Jim Belushi died. I worked in that building on 6725 Sunset Blvd where Catalina Jazz Club is. It used to Petersen Publishing Company that published magazines like Motor Trend and Teen Magazine.
Thank you for showing us a part of Los Angeles we know so little of. First of all, it is such a vital port with a variety of neighborhoods and attractions. And, yes, it looks very clean compared to when I saw it years ago. I think you captured the essence of the South Bay very well. This video along with excellent music made for a very interesting and informative video. Thanks for your hard work. It is appreciated. Have a great week end.
Thank you Scott. Every time I click on one of your new vids, I find myself entangled in a state of addiction. Takes forever to get through, because I have to keep pausing to goggle the interesting historical tidbits you point out. But alas, it is a sweet and satisfying addiction none-the-less! 😁😁
Glad I could bring some positivity into your month, it's all about spreading those good vibes! I have many more here at the channel, so stop by and check some out when you need an feel good adventure!
I miss this road so much. My grandfather lived and worked on the Fiscalini Ranch and I still know every curve. Thank you for the music and the trip down memory lane.
Just to let you know that since I subscribed I am doing at least one video per day. Have you driven 395? By the way thank you 🙏 for exposing little known roads, I am a huge Huell Howser fan and now I’m a big 🪭 of your work!. Keep up the great work.
I have a few videos of 395, or right off 395 ride alongs. I will be shooting more before summer is over. AWESOME new video Scott-We would like to hear more of your music please. Great surprise, thanks for including it. Congrats on your official retirement too. Oh and more drone footage please!
Thank you for sharing your experience, it means a lot! The mountains, hills and canyons of SoCal can be a challenge to drive. Add some traffic and it gets more complicated.
California state route 133 looks pretty through the San Joaquin Hills as a single lane road but travel from Laguna Beach to Irvine would be faster if California state route 133 was widen to a freeway from Pacific coast highway to the Laguna canyon road/ pavona intersection in Irvine where the freeway section currently ends south of interstate 405. Was California state route 133 ever intended to be a freeway from I-405 all the way to pacific coast highway in Laguna beach.
No, that route will never be a freeway. The surrounding land is protected as part of the Crystal Cove State Park. The area is a wildlife refuge, is covered in hiking trails and would be ruined by a huge road going to the beach. I love the natural beauty of Laguna Canyon and I hope they keep it as is.
Welcome back. One of your best with the scenery. And the choice of music was just phenominal. You really uplifted my Saturday. Thank you for that. I was particularly taken by the shots of the marine layer against the mountains. And I really did feel like a passenger in your car. I hope you have a spectacular week-end. I look forward to your next video.
i do this drive at least 18 times a year, Santa maria to Bakersfield. Its pretty but also extremely dangerous . i have almost died so many times from people trying to pass from each side. i really wish they didn't let semis on this road.
That first section you film is currently metered for construction.. it's fun to sit at the light and wait for the whole mountain to clear going uphill if you're like me and uh.. a "spirited driver"... that double lane chicane near the top before you roll into mountain center is just pure fun.
This is a very, very fun drive! There are many "spirited" drivers on this track on the weekends. Thats why I shot this on a ride on a Friday, far fewer cars. Thanks for watching and commenting!
It blew my mind! I hope someday I'll be able to visit this magical place... Meanwhile, I'll try to put into practice a nice lesson from these trees: they survive with little they can get... Isn't that wonderful enough?!
I drove on this highway yesterday and experienced three separate anxiety attacks. I am trying to confront my fear, but after driving for so long, I got dizzy. Though the scenery is beautiful to observe, it can be distracting when you're driving. I just read that there is an old road that was even higher up! 😮
It's great that you're trying to confront your fear and push through your anxiety attacks. Remember to take breaks and prioritize your mental health while driving.
BRAVO Scott, so well done - everything, music, video/drone quality, narrative text, etc.! Your genuine and sincere reverence for this special place is so obvious! I keep thinking about TIME and the recycling of the elements of nature. The ancient Dolomite seabed contains the remnants of truly ancient sea life...and those atoms have been incorporated into the Bristlecone Pines themselves. The cycle of life is so obvious - the atoms of the Bristlecones are the "recycled" atoms from truly ancient living things. These trees may be the oldest current living things on earth, but they are comprised of ageless atoms. Stardust - to - Stardust, over eons of time. One must sit down in an attempt to comprehend it all.
Thanks for this video - I really enjoyed your captions, and found myself saying a lot of the same things to myself right before your caption would appear. This was PART OF my daily commute from Fontana to San Juan Capistrano in the mid-90s. I can't believe how much has been built up just east of SJC. That road has actually been widened since my time commuting - the center "island" line marking was just one line at the time, and lots of motorcycles crossed that line all the time on those curves. My entire trip was an hour and 20 minutes each way with no traffic. Several times there were accidents that shut down the road, and there was nowhere else to go but back. One day the road was shut down just prior to getting to Antonio Parkway(?) (that didn't exist at that time), and I had to turn around and go all the way back to Elsinore, down through Temecula to Oceanside and up the 5 to SJC which took 3 hours. I then had to reverse that to drive home (the 241 toll road also didn't exist through Anaheim, so going through Oceanside was shorter than going through Anaheim). Halfway into Pendleton on the 5, the entire freeway shut down for hours - a bank robbery had taken place in SJC (I think) and the chase was down the 5. We all got out of our cars and chatted and got bitten by a zillion mosquitoes. The day after, I rented out my house in Fontana and rented a place in SJC and the Ortega commute ended. It was a really lovely drive though, with the exception of dealing with motorcyclists, and, though it was long, the nature and scenery really brought me a sense of calm. Also I was driving a fun small Honda CRX with a stick shift, so the road was a blast to drive. Here ends my long story. I would say "yes" to scenic highway, but I regard scenic highways as places where you can actually enjoy the view. This is such a heavily commuted road by cars flying at high speeds that you don't really dare for a lot of it to actually look at that scenery. I don't think it really qualifies for that status, and also that designation would undoubtedly increase traffic which it doesn't need. Anyway, thanks again for such a lovely trip down memory highway. :)
Your commute sounds like a mix of action movie plot twists and scenic drives. Who knew a daily commute could be so eventful? The "Ortega Commute Chronicles" could be a bestseller! Thank you so much for your comments!
I believe it is around 3:39 into video is where the landslide has blocked the canyon indefinitely. Hiked down from other side on 4-7-2024. The canyon is blocked off near the lumberyard at time 6:38. Beautiful falls in the stone/crystal vendors property. Turnoff to my home is 22:20.
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and share your feedback. I have a lot more of thoses same kinds of road trips right here at the channel, so stop back by and explore!
Yes, it is against the rules to fly in wilderness areas without a permit. None of the areas I am flying the drone in are wilderness areas. I use FAA approved apps to check all airspace before I fly. Thanks for watching, and submitting your comments.
Thank you so much. Brings back 10 wonderful years of living in SLO county. I'm a California native living now in northeast Ohio for twenty years. No comparison.
Wow what memories. I lived in the oakwood apartments in woodland hills from 1990 -1992. one of my favorite drives was topanga canyon. I can honestly say my life would not be as wonderful as it is today if not for my time there. thank you for the trip back in time!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoy both the videos and the music. Please check out the 70+ other Ride Alongs here at the channel!
Glad you liked the drone shots! My drone is my trusty sidekick in capturing those epic views. I have many more than 60 trips just like Bristlecone right here on my channel. Stop by and check out these when you have a little time! And yes I see why you cruise this often I would start at Camp Pendleton and work my way down. Beautiful beaches, plentiful surfing, amazing restaurants and shopping for all kinds of unique finds.
I live in Orange County, so my drivealong the Pacific starts in Dana Point and San Clemente. All of the California Coast is beautiful, but check out this video for a liitle more of it: Dana Point to Laguna Beach - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LI3MBQnaC5E.html
