See you out there!
Running through the wild since 1990. Built to Venture Est Feb 2020.
Very good video, only problem is it seems you have a big suspension mod. Making a lot more space available. Very difficult to do on a standard 96 prado. But I’ll get it done 😂
Turns out there are a few different variations on how to remove the starter. Mine came out above the frame rail, but I had to remove the transmission dipstick and unbolt and move the brake line. Even then it was defit a jigsaw puzzle to get it out! But not impossible!
fwiw here is the orientation to pull it out of the wheel well on a stock 2000 Limited 4WD. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-heUltP_X8fU.html
@@cullumstirling If it is the OEM 'yota starter you want to do that or have it done. If not.. get that replacement in there and hope it goes 200-250k. Lifetime warranties are pointless if the part fails every 3-4 years due to poor seals. ymmv Our 2000 OEM starter in the Limited lasted 243k miles.
Thanks! The truck handles really well on and off road despite the height. The extra width I believe compensates for that. I put 30k on the build and that included a lot of hard core riding in the first few (haven't got to trail ride much lately due to life). The front leaf spring bushings seem to wear out decently quick, but then again I have also read the bushings typically only last ~10k miles. Unfortunately the front driveline angle is impossible to get optimal, so running faster than 25 mph is not wise. Only way I can figure to get around that is to eventually do a dual T/C OR swap in a custom high pinion front axle. Almost forgot, I did also swap in a 14 bolt out of a 2006 2500. It had stock disk brakes and E-brake (although discovered after the fact that the stock e-brake is pretty useless). Gas mileage... haha adjusting for speedo / tachometer off, I'm somewhere in the range of 13-15 mpg. The tires I have are very heavy (although great) and not to mention with heavy sliders, arb bumper, winch, and camper shell, the truck is weighing in around 5600lbs :| Someday wishlist is: Front coil spring swap with high pinion front axle (maybe F250), dual TC, diesel swap, Aussie style topper build / setup, and put it on 37/38's.
LOL! I got suck in the woods coming out from the overlook and debeaded a tire. Now Im tripled locked on muds so curious to see how my truck does next time.
I have a 03 Tacoma with this motor and holy shit. There is no room to work. I removed the trans dipstick pipe which helped but it was still a pain. And idk why but my bolts for the starter would start and get about half way in and then get harder to turn. But they weren't cross threading.
@@JamesBoyer-cn7bc from the top of the engine there is one bolt near the top of the tube. I had a really hard time getting it back in but I've taken it out before and don't remember it being that hard.
FYI: In Tennessee, and in the US in general, the waterway has to be navigable (by boat, from point to point - not just a section that you could float a boat in) to give a non-property-owner (guest) right-of-way. If it's not navigable, you are technically trespassing, and unless you are on public lands, if you are standing on the bottom of the creek, you are definitely standing on someone's private property.
Nice! This is one of the best and most clear videos on this repair. And finally, a manual transmission example that I’ve been looking for! That exhaust bracket seems to be different than the automatic tranny vids I’ve seen. Looks like you’ve done the SAS on yours. Love the chalk board steps (as with your off road vids). Thank you!
Appreciate this video man! Have you been out there lately? I see Old Mill is closed now... Think it's worth the day trip from Nashville just for Cash Hollow? Or any other goodies nearby?
Are you enjoying Sunglass Central? I think I recognized a certain pair of sunglasses ... I paid a lot of DOLLAS for those sun GLASSES! ;) G said number 8 ... You and me ...
Depends. Assuming you're just replacing the flange and utilizing the existing bearings and crush sleeve? If so, than I'd recommend taking out your pinion housing, measure pre-load (in-lb torque) as it is, pull old flange off, install new flange, and start tightening down the new flange. When getting tight, I'd then start checking your pre-load with the goal to get it just barely above where the original preload was. This ensures everything is tight. WFO guys know what they are doing though and clearly deal with this everyday.
We live on this road. There is Absolutely no public land and you were trespassing in your video! You were not fishing in the first section! This road is closed to through traffic! We had trespassers today on our land. I beg you to remove this video! You may be respectful, but most are not! 😢
aye mate, i own a 97 prado absolute mint condition just recently i had to change the starter as i took it down to Tasmania old telly track. Got stuck in some deep water and yeah had to change it so thanks for the help mate cheers.
that first pond kinda looks like the pond by the two rivers golf course....just a guess. i tried it forever ago when i saw it while golfing. Too much pressure there, didn't catch squat
Me and 2 others walked this road back in 1999 starting at the northern side just passed Washer Rd. & ending at the southern part in the Bells Branch area. I recall 3 creek crossings that the road dropped straight off which made it impossible to drive. I saw that you said that there was a bridge over one crossing but did they fix the other ones?
Lowell with Tread Lightly! here! Thanks for being respectful while you cross the creek and for picking up others trash! Appreciate your mentioning of being respectful of others, especially private property owners nearby. You don't happen to know who the land manager for this road is do you? I'm looking to host a project for a large company in Smyrna (you can guess who) and thought this might be a nice simple road to do a cleanup project and maybe get some signage on the water crossings that says to cross only, don't play in the water. The water looked so clear and beautiful! Thanks for doing your part and Protecting the Adventure so roads like this stay open for all to enjoy.
I have the same engine on my 04 Prerunner. Do you remember the mileage on yours when you had to replace it? Was it the original Denso? If so, how’s the TYC brand holding up? How many mileage does it have now?
