Cards are gonna be tough that's y I make an animation, I'd need some serious upgrades to the overhead cam to get the cards readable from that distance, and even if I could the cards are just to small on the screen Sorry about that though V glad you're enjoying!
Immediately dropped everything to watch the video as soon as the notification popped up. Love the information sharing as someone who's looking to get into the format and you two are always a blast to watch
At 35:36, you pay 4 mana to cast Consign to Memory with 1 replicate to play around trinisphere. Trinisphere does not care about the spells CMC, it cares about how much mana was spent to cast it. You CAN just double replicate it (U2 total CMC) to get three instances of Consign to Memory and Trinisphere sees you having spent 3 mana to cast a spell. You can just target either the Ulamog or the Cast trigger twice and it will still be a legal target because it's on the stack. This is how shattering spree interacts with trinisphere as well, and you can do this to beat chalice on 1, 2, and trinisphere when playing storm, for example (cast shattering spree with 2 replicates, trinisphere sees 3 mana spent, target chalice on 1 with the OG cast, and then trinisphere and chalice on 2 with the replicates). Chalice on 1 will counter the original cast, and then the 2 replicates will destroy trinisphere and chalice on 2, enabling all your juicy rituals. Trinisphere is a weird magic card and I hate it not because of what it does, but because of how confusing and unintuitive the card is.
you aren't properly testing if you don't actually mulligan. A deck like Amulet Titan for example would seem INFINITELY better if you mulligan 3-4 times but kept 6 each time in testing, and then feel like garbage once you actually play. You don't learn what a good 6 is if you just keep going to 6 over and over again, since you don't know WHY a mid 6 might be better than whatever 5 you draw.
You can actually sideboard with a karn board. Idk if I'd do it against control but it's definitely something to consider. Like bringing in karn targets that aren't first picks in the match up but still good and taking out bad stuff.
The One Ring indeed does not stop the Koz Command exile as cards in your graveyard are not covered. "If a player has protection from everything, it means three things: 1) All damage that would be dealt to that player is prevented. 2) Auras can't be attached to that player. 3) That player can't be the target of spells or abilities." Targeting cards in your grave is not targeting you. The same would go for surgical extraction. The only thing it targets is the card in the graveyard. It will still be able to search your grave, hand, and library to yoink additional copies as well.
I really enjoy the information sharing. I believe clear examples of gameplay, as well as active theorycrafting about lines of action are good. I think it makes your content both stand out and have more value. It’s similar to having an enjoyable study group amongst people who share your interests. I believed it was clear, this was a series of playtesting with a splash of competitive edge. So hopefully more people will eventually become more open to the idea of sharing and learning, rather than seeing this as another dry gameplay channel. Always enjoy your content and thank you.
I've been watching your content for quite a while now, and I always liked your explanations. In fact, your channel got me into Modern and Legacy and I've learned a lot from watching you guys, and explaining the lines is great for me to see some scenarios that I could've otherwise missed. I personally believe your channel is one of the best if not the best on youtube when it comes to gameplay. It's refreshing to see a channel that cares about serious gameplay in a different format - I watch a lot of Play to Win, also got me into cEDH - and that has such crazy insane value. The fact you and I have very similar tastes for strategies is just the icing on the cake for me.
I don't love it w wrath, it doesn't often come up that you wrath for x=6 or greater but it can. Also discharge handles walkers v well so I just want the mana base to be straight forward jeskai for the time being
game 1 - turn 4 or 5 you missed adding jegantha to your hand with 4 open mana - the turn you attacked the teferi, and i think your sequencing could have been different in the first few turns to invalidate the discharges killing your ob nixilis immediately too. just letting the bow master sit in play and draw a removal spell or something before you sacrifice the token for the ob would have changed the dynamic of the game early on. he was able to turn the corner on you because these resources werent maximized at the start of the game. when he played the teferi and only had a solitude and a land in hand, ob would have been devastating on that board instead of rushing it out there and having it draw all of the removal. also not tapping your land immediately when playing your spells is confusing. seeing your whole decklist at the start of the video would help with talking about sideboarding game 2 - jeskai didnt pay the life to fetch after the bowmaster attack on turn 3 game 3 - i think casting the bowmaster when he cracked the fetch at the end of your turn 2 was a mistake, you want to get his mana tapped on his turn and walking into a spell snare there which is what happened puts you really far behind that early in the game. if you wait for the end of his turn for the obm it messes with his mana, and you can potentially draw out the counterspell with your phlage the next turn or wait for the second bowmaster like you did. i think being a little more stingy with your resources early game would have made both the first and third games different. good video and content though, you guys have good personalities for it.
Appreciate the notes buddy, unfortunately there will be mistakes from time to time, seems like there where a handful in this vid, but we crank out quite a bit of content so it can be easy to miss some things V much appreciate this though ty. Glad you're enjoying the content as well
The information sharing reminds me of how me and my playgroup all test with each other and I agree I think it’s super helpful in getting better at the game. It’s very obvious you guys play the game as you don’t have open information which is nice
Great point regarding why you both explain your plays and “give information.” I think its extremely helpful in playtesting like this to be exposed to the right play line to practice the correct sequencing v.s. “oh remember on turn 5 when x,y,z you should have did this..” Also relatively new to the channel and I think you do a great job filling a void that I had when VS live was canceled by SCG. Two friends with charisma making a video of their playtesting/methods to improve is awesome, I’m a fan
Hey Lawrence very happy you're liking the content, I'm glad you like the explanation of plays, I know not everyone needs it but I still like hearing other players reasoning and I can't imagine I'm the only one. Any comparison to the good old scg days makes me blush dude, I wish they'd bring it back
