Also more complex factors when thinking about encryption on the company's side.
The reason why every store has its own app is because they can easily track *your* spending habits that way and incentivize you to only use that store, because you often can only get the specific deals in the app. If you regularly buy a lot of fruit, they can easily send you coupons that only exist in the app for more fruit. Also, the app could be looking to see if you have other grocery apps installed, or, with the right permissions, where and when you visit other groceries. The "learn everything about your habits" collection model is why I beg people to get off TikTok. (Also, I am exactly the same about internet of things and wanting single-use devices. I've spent too long in cybersecurity to just hand my data over. This is part of the reason why I hate amazon and actually have a couple of amazon accounts to obfuscate my data.)
