We all know that most of the UrRu are similar and/or fittingly opposite to their Skeksis counterparts. But most are one or the other. UrVa and SkekMal were very similar and opposite at the same time. 0:52 , 1:01 , 2:08 and 2:28 Both UrVa and SkekMal were very tough and independent, which was unusual for both races. But of course the light and dark balance between them is clear nevertheless: The light came from UrVa’s harmony with nature and selfless acts, while the dark came from SkekMal’s blood-thirst and selfish desire to kill. 4:44 to 5:16 Ultimately, both UrVa and SkekMal were the toughest and bravest of their kinds. Just in mostly different ways. Hopefully, the UrRu and Skeksis automatically rejoin as UrSkeks in death.
I love SkekVar. He’s a brutal and blood thirsty general, which is very fitting for a Skeksis. 4:38 , 5:15 , 5:26 and 5:50 It’s so sad that UrMa was never shown on the show or anywhere really. The whole AOR show was an absolute masterpiece. Other than it being cancelled of course, my only complaint about the show as a whole is that both UrMa (SkekVar’s counterpart) and UrSen the Monk (SkekLach’s counterpart) die completely off screen when their dark halves are killed. We can only hope that we can eventually see more Dark Crystal content on the screen. At this point, I couldn’t care less if it’s animated or live action. I just want more Dark Crystal.
I believe that UrSan and SkekSa are arguably the most similar pair, other than UrAmaj the Cook with SkekAyuk the Gourmand. 2:58 UrSan sounds wise seems to speak in riddles just like the other UrRu, but more freely like UrZah the Ritual Guardian. I hope we can eventually see these two on screen. I’m not yet sure if SkekSa and UrSan died when SkekSa was grown into a tree. Was a tree grown around her, or was SkekSa herself turned into a tree?
If they are unsure how to continue with AoR, I wish they could do more spin-off stories in the meantime. I don't mind whetever it's animation, book or comic. I just want something!

I personally liked the original version of SkekLach better. I read that Manga series and that version of the character was far more interesting. Also, UrSen seemed more like a story teller rather than a Monk in the Manga. 4:28 to 4:50 It’s so sad that like UrMa the Peacemaker (counterpart of SkekVar the General,) UrSen was never shown and also died completely off screen. I canon only think of one thing that a Monk and a Collector have in common: Monks sometimes collect religious artifacts, while a Collector collects anything they can, religiously or otherwise. Also, I wonder if SkekShod the Treasurer got SkekLach’s hoard of riches after the Collector’s death.
0:51 I wonder if SkekUng was even stronger than SkekMal the Hunter, because he was certainly not as athletic. Besides the obvious, my favorite thing about SkekUng is that he and his counterpart UrIm are very fittingly opposite. 4:42 to 5:00 A blood thirsty general and a healer of life are obviously complete and polar opposites.
1:48 What is quite interesting with UrUtt and SkekEkt is that UrUtt’s roll as weaver is perhaps the least interesting role of the UrRu. Essential, yes, but interesting, no. Besides the obvious, the main thing that made these two so opposite is SkekEkt wanted attention constantly while UrUtt (like many other UrRu) didn’t care much for attention.
What is there to say about the Chamberlain that hasn’t already been said? He’s sneaky, cunning and incredibly smart. 3:40 to 3:59 I love how UrSol and SkekSil both use their voices to make things happen, in one way or another. Another thing is that while many may think UrSol being a chanter is not such a useful trait, music is actually quite powerful. As said in this video, UrSol could freeze waterfalls and make all of Thra tremble with one note. I can only imagine how many wine glasses he could break if he wanted to.
3:55 to 4:25 Aside from UrSan the Swimmer with SkekSa the Mariner and possibly UrZah the Ritual Guardian with SkekZok the Ritual Master, I would agree that UrAmaj and SkekAyuk are probably the most similar pair of all. SkekAyuk is one of the best examples of how the Skeksis are pretty easy to tell apart. This is very interesting, because the UrRu on the other hand are often fairly difficult to tell apart, aside from their walking sticks.

The counterpart relation between UrNol and SkekNa is perhaps the most interesting, given that their roles have absolutely nothing to do with each other, opposite or otherwise. 3:28 to 3:43 They are literally the only pair with this as the case. All the other pairs are either similar or very but fittingly opposite. The best examples are UrMa the Peacemaker with SkekVar the General and UrIm the Healer with SkekUng the Garthim Master. These two pairs are the most fittingly opposite. Another interesting thing about UrNol and SkekNa is that UrNol wears an eyepatch, but seems to have nothing noticeably wrong with his hands. Perhaps SkekNa only wore the metal claw to scare others.
I would love more Dark Crystal, but I do feel like the appeal of the show & movie is the Puppets. Changing that to animation even hand drawn animation would feel as though it's lessening the experience, the core essence of the world that Jim Henson built.
Would it be better than nothing? For sure. Would it be the same, feel the same? Absolutely not. My biggest gripe is that most puppets and sets are already built (hope it didn’t get destroyed or disassembled😅) and are now placed somewhere in storage or whatnot. I know that practical effects are expensive, but considering a lot of previous work is already done, I think a new season wouldn’t break the bank to much. At least if they were really planning on doing season two instead of a completely new dark crystal project
CGI wouldn't have kept the show from getting canceled. Netflix cancels good shows all the time, no matter cheap they are to produce. Age of Resistance was just too niche and not advertised well enough to succeed; so pointing to the puppetry as being to blame for the show's failure is missing the forest for the trees.
I would 100% imagine a Skeksis appearing in many locations in the Star Wars world, like in the council meetings with other CIS figureheads, or in the tables and seats of the Cantina and Jabba's Palace

I think Chamberlain wanted to drain gelflings more slowly and hide their true nature as long as they can but I don't think he could've lasted very long because other skesis didn't trust him at all. Constant scheming would've quickly turned against him and Chamberlain was actually one who caused the whole mess because he was first to suggest using the crystal for draining.
I don’t know. I can see both sides: On one hand, much of the Dark Crystal content we fans are all familiar with it in the puppetry. The puppetry is perhaps the number one thing that makes the movie and show so special. In the AOR teaser trailer, there was footage of Jim Hansen saying something like “it was the most work and it was the most challenging, but it’s perhaps the project that I am most proud of.” This is understandable, since the film took 3 to 5 years to make. That’s a long time, even back in the 1980s. But on the other hand, as precious as the puppetry is to us, it’s not everything. I remember the old Manga series called Legends of the Dark Crystal, and even though it was mostly just images, it still felt much like watching the movie because the characters were so well written and shown. This is saying something coming from someone who doesn’t usually enjoy reading. (Yes, I understand that the Manga is no longer canon, but that doesn’t change how great it is. I actually liked that version of SkekLach much better than the one on AOR.)
I think a Dark Crystal stop motion animation might work. With that style you could still retain that practical effects feeling that DC fans love so much. But as long as the story's good I think fans would love regardless.

Also it could be quite of a upgrade beyond the kids animated shows they had...Besides whe need to know!!! the Prophecy must be singed!!! Skeksis Eternals!!! But of course all depends if the study can and what the fans whant too...Im trully whant some news...
The Bad Batch, the third Star Wars animated show (3 seasons), upped the quality of said animation beyond Clone Wars and Rebels. It seems that the best 'Star Wars' is in the animated stuff, more than live action it seems of late. If the animisation of Thra and its inhabitants were of that quality, love and care, I would for sure accept it, arms wide open😊. It would break my heart if it were CGI based. Of course my first and most heartfelt would be 'Puppetry, Yahy'. For the people who say, 'puppets are so expressionless', they haven't copped the side eye from Brea❤
If we were talking about a new story, new characters, and a new take on the world I'd be down for an animated series. That said, I wouldn't want to see the continuation of 'Age of Resistance' animated. I would want a sequel to that amazing work of art to be created using the same tools and talents as the first one as much as possible.
I’d love to see a video of you talking about all the skeksis forms of punishment (examples: peeper beetle, banishment, clothing removal, etc.). I’m sure there are many other forms of punishment the skeksis did that we would like to know about in detail.
I think they should not have access to it, they already fucked it up by killing off the wrong characters before the great conjunction. It was never meant to be about real political climate and Jim would be rolling in his grave if he saw what they did to it.
Sounds about right. As long as it’s well written and still “feels” like the Dark Crystal, I am completely open to an animation show and/or movie. I mean, why not? (As long as they don’t lose their way while making it, like makers have in the past with other shows and movies.)
It’s got to be the practical effects and puppetry for me. The time and effort it takes to do it that way is one of the reasons The Dark Crystal is so special. It’s a labour of love.
I don't see why anyone would be against the idea of _any_ animated content when the series already _has_ expanded into other mediums like comics and video games. Of course we all want to see the puppets, but it'd be great to see some kind of animated special in the meantime. The use of cgi in AoR shows us that it can blend in with physical props, so maybe we could see more of a 50/50 mix in the future. Honestly, whatever medium allows this series to stay alive is our best option.
