Maggots are still used. Shure u dont meat this type of medical treatment in your local hospital. But for instance here in Ukraine in trenches it's common practice. Due too lack of medicine.
The body would go into toxix shock within a week. Even if u had him on a IV drip and had those cleanser maggots on him 24-7, you'd fall into a coma. Your body protects itself this way. In the dark ages: when they'd torture some poor MF, they'd have to be very very careful with their victim, or they'd slip into a coma. They would torture for only 20 minutes at a time usually. This was because the body releases pain meds into the brain. 2 hours later you start again; and over n over n over. 5 days usually then the body died. Did this peach seed get planted beneath and then through him? Or was it planted inside his gut? U can punch a hole through the body, and not hit any major veins or organs, but..... The organs would get infected badly, followed by sepsis and toxic shock. This ending is not possible. She should've just sat there until he died of thirst... That'd be a horrible way to go!

He didn't get on with Michael Biehn (however you spell his surname) on set, and therefore wanted to kill him off ASAP no matter what happened, thinks the only way the alien franchise can continue is if it focuses on the robots/androids, ruined the engineer/space jockey concept, made David the creator of aliens or some ridiculous shit, and didn't bother with alien five - which BTW could have CORRECTED the whole alien timeline and therefore continue after the second film erasing alien 3 and 4 which would have been for the best. But no, because Ridley Scott is a little bitch he was like 'yeah if I get time maybe', never intending to do it because then he would have to work with Biehn again. The second alien film was better than even the first, hell its because of the queen alien scene (both the horror of the Queen's design AND Ripley's 'get away from her you bitch' line) that the franchise has been kept alive to today, thankfully. The third alien film, despite being unique and creative killed the series off far too quickly. In the comics both Newt and Dwayne survive, the earth gets overrun with aliens and Ripley goes after the red queen alien because both the black xenos and red xenos hate eachother and are fighting for dominance. The alien series was cut far too short. There's still so much that could be explored in new potential future films and yet Ridley Scott says the only way forward is to focus on the androids. Wtf. What about the red aliens? The king alien? There's so much potential there! Wtf! Edit: I see it was Neil who was gonna do alien 5 but I remember talk of Ridley Scott saying he would do it but had no sense of urgency to do it.

For a saga somewhat grounded in reality, the tree-theory seems a bit far-fetched. And as you said, Furiosa doesn't necessarily take pleasure in prolonged suffering and torture. So I'd also deem the gunshot to the head the most likely one. Followed closely behind the dragging, though... She was "beyond vengeance" afterall
It should be noted that we don't actually know whether or not Max brought Furiosa to the Corpse Minder or if the Corpse Minder found Furiosa. We know that Max watches Furiosa fall but we don't see his reaction - does he turn to jump into his car to rescue her or does he simply shrug his shoulders and go back to eating? I think his choice is left purposefully ambiguous.
I think she was actually trying to save Furiosa. If she wanted to kill her, chop her up and use her body parts for maggot farming then she would have already done so. When she mentioned that she can make it better I believe she was referring to using the maggots to clean up her wounds from infection. This would have been a great opportunity for furiosa to sit down and talk with her and get a little more background and history of why she does what she does and also about the wretched.
