When I turn my book off, there is a label that says sleeping and gives me the stats of the battery life can I remove that label from the front screen so that I can see the full book cover in the resting mode
I got a clara colour and I always felt like I had to justify why the display was like that. In the beginning, the graininess was shocking. But for a brief period I didn't mind it. But the letters seemed grayish or just not vibrant, and not popping out. I felt like I was getting a slight headache? I don't know if it was only my imagination. I just felt like I was continuously trying to make excuses for the colour display.
I had them side by side at In Indigo...BW is significantly nicer to look at with or without the backlight on. The Colour has a very grey background.I ended up getting the BW even though it was only $20 more for the Colour. The Colour looks fuzzy/blurry to me.
Oh. 😥 I really wanted to see the highlights part, and exports option (like text recognition and export to .txt. Or a document with written notes and highlights). And copy paste of text to a blank page (or link).
Just had a look at the specs and its a bit behind the Boox, but I'm sure that the software and screen (if its the same tech as kobo) will make up for that.
I’m going to upgrade my kindle 6” when and if an eink color display comes to the market from kindle. But this is a straight to the point comparison. Great job man
in terms of eye strain, the android is just simulating e-ink with software isn't it? So not the same but looks like it is, its just an android device still, I've found the kindle so much easier on the eyes for reading and would like to view comics, I dont mind losing some colour as a compromise, it would be awesome to have android with e-ink however. Battery life will be dramatically different between the two systems too
I got a good deal on the original Elipsa last year. It came with the pen and cover. I thought that I wouldn't be able to use the pen on this e-reader but both pens are compatible with all pen-enabled Kobos! That makes it a lot easier to add this to my collection. (And, skip the original Elipsa even if it looks like a good deal. Yes, it will be updated for years but the thing has been a total pain in the butt. Just get any other pen enabled Kobo.)
I kinda want one & have never had a kindle. But why do they do that weird flash thing when going to different pages or when you went to the cover part etc?
Very good comparison so thank you! For me the most important point on an e-reader is how crisp the display shows the text. Base model wins. All other is just bla bla bla. Do people know that there are extern light sources even in the darkness? If i want lighting displays i use an ipad 🤡🤡🤡 Tharmt said... I still love my 10 year old kindles with switch buttons. The display shows text, like it is written on top of it.
Fwiw, bought this go 10.3, returned it, and bought a Huawei matepad 11.5 papermatte tablet for 300 eur (new but from 2nd hand website) w case, keyboard, pen, and headphones. I loved the minimalist yet powerful vibe of the boox, BUT the screen is VERY dark and white is always grey. So when reading a legal document for eg (i bought it for work purposes), the ink is black, but what should be white is GREY. And it bothered me extremely, even in perfect lighting conditions. The lighting in this video is actually honest, unlike the several channels that shill for these devices, where they make the video very bright. For writing, it's ok. But to read, even an ebook, it's very unpleasant. This Huawei tablet has a matte screen, low flicker / blue light and tralala. It doesnt feel like an e-ink tablet, but it's quite nice to write on it (not as nice as on boox), and quite nice to read on it. Hardware is very fast, it runs android, the screen is big, dpi is high, and obviously, bright if you want it to be. I guess this speaks to the limitations of the e-ink market. Colour screens are said to be very dark, yet B&W screens w/o front light, i found too dark too. The huawei is heavy, it'd be a bad choice to a standalone reader. But at this price point and with all the features i wanted, that's the best thing i found.
The Scribe has whispersync, like all Kindle products. The Kobo doesn't. You can't have sync for sideloaded books. It is a MAJOR disadvantage. It's better in any other way, but this is such a major drag... You can't see your books with your highlights. That's bad, for 2024
Wow..your Go Color 7 looks so much better than mine. I probably do not have the settings correct. I got the Go Color 7 because of the Google play and ability to add other apps. The Kobo app and books look horrible on it…any advice?
I did saw alot of negative comments about the Kobo App actually not that user friendly, hence if KOBO readers then recommend to read the books from Kobo device.
KOBO libra color build was too cheap. I got to say I enjoyed the interface and the usability of it. The thing is, my kobo was protected by a sleepcover and was tucked in nicely in my work bag. When I driving to work, I accidently did a E brake and my work bag dropped from the seat to the flooring area. To my horror, the device was gone and not repairable. I owned it for 16 days.
Wow I can't believe the Libra 2 is out of stock while the colour is available everywhere!! What the hell are they doing, give me the real deal, I want to read a book not some comics for christ sake.
I loved the form factor and the size of the screen, but it was a pain getting books on the unit. The Pocketbook bookstore is horrible and any other books I had purchased were difficult to load. It is also extremely SLOW!
I have the Kindle basic that I bought today and I have no page turn animation feature on the device at all. I've tried to watch videos to see if it was applicable to my device that's not the paperwhite but it doesn't seem like it is
What’s the point of creating a huge device like that if we can’t access Google drive, Pocket, dropbox among other apps through it? There are so many articles I have saved on pocket, for example, that I have to read them all on my iPad. It makes no sense based on the amount of money I have to pay just to have a “bigger display”.
I got this and I liked it, but it’s super fragile. I apparently pressed with a little too much pressure on the screen, a little more than a light touch (really not bad though, my kindle/ipad/meebook/older kindles all handle it fine) and the screen shattered. Idk if I got a dud, I’m trying to decide if it’s worth trying another.
problem is the BW Libra 2 is not available anymore ... so color it is. If they resupply the stocks I'll be a bit pissed I guess. Or maybe not? a, who knows ....
is there a brightness option somewhere? i just received mine and it bothers me how grey / dark the whole thing is, rather than white. when i look at paper, paper is white. this is 1000% not white out of the box. Am i being stupid, or does the lack of frontlight mean you're stuck with a grey screen?
Frontlights vary from one to the next, but generally speaking Kobos do have more issues with unevenness. Same with the entry-level Kindle, but the frontlight on the Paperwhite is really good. I've had two of the current version and both were very even.
The glow front light has ruined e-readers. The beauty and practicality of having a paper like screen has been killed in favor of battery eating, gimmicky features. Thank you Box.
you can turn a frontlight off you cant turn no frontlight on. ereaders have terrible contrast vs real printed paper. in equal lighting eink performs much worse, and adding supplementary lighting adds glare (again unlike real paper) a simple light in the bezel turned down low can help compensate for those shortcomings without looking unrealistic. ereaders are about practicality, their convinience over books is their only advantage. being able to light up is part of that
When I had my first kindle I was CRAVING for a frontlight. Now that we have it and it's the common thing on any eink, Boox remove it and adds lag on writing. Genius strategy.
The Kobo is made of 100% recycled plastic and is easily reparable. Pretty sure this is not the case for the Chinese boox. 😅 Furthermore, the colour rendition on Kobo is actually much closer to the really thing than the boox.
The Clara BW is the first ereader I can actually read on. I suffer from migraines and I can read for as long as I want on this one. I tried every kindle and every Kobo before this one. Only the BW seems to work for me. I am just so happy to finally have an ereader.
What I appreciate so much about your reviews Nathan, in addition to how thorough you are, is that you actually show and use the devices for the entire filming. I find so many "reviewers" the videos are more about the person than the device.
That's just how E Ink screens work. The full screen refresh causes a black flash as the ink articles rearrange. It happens much less frequently than it used to. With Kobos you can set it to full refresh every 1-10 pages, or once per chapter. Kindles usually do it once every chapter as well, or whenever there are images.
@@annvoy7698 I just got the Go 10.3. I could add layers when I create a notepad but when I open a pdf, I don't see the add layers function. Oh well. I'll just keep messing around with it. Thanks anyway.
I got this 6 days ago. Amazon However, it was fuzzy and gave me headaches after reading on it for about 20mins. 😢 Nice thought but for me I had to return it
