Standard petrolhead trying to "do a RU-vid", poorly......
Just for fun channel documenting adventures in modifying and driving cars (again, both poorly....), including contents from track days, drag days, parts unboxing, 0-60mph times and garage work.

Hi Ajax, thanks for stopping by! ScanGauge is very useful, but hoping to replace it with a more modern equivalent in the future, along with the entire ECU too!
Great video. Those are some nice parts! :D Missing the part 3 (?). But I also want to know where you purchased the wheels from :) Looking at Motec but another model, but can't find a good site with correct hole pattern and sizes. Thanks
Thanks for your comment, part 3 coming soon! (Cars in the shop currently). So I purchased them from a German site, Regelin - Uwe I think is the name of the chap that runs it, very helpful chap 👍
Just picked up a 89K mile Boxster S this week. Yours is very helpful video; your insights are in line with my own expectations for work I should plan to do for the car....the clutch particularly....a job for when the engine is out (IMS bearing etc). I have the Factory BBS 18 inch Sport Classic II alloy wheels which look great.
A bit shocked your first car wasn't the Tigra A. In eastern Europe people who just want to drive get the standard corsa or a ford puma, while every tuner here gets a tigra unless its a japanese or american car lol
Ha - well so I had this like 15 years ago and Tigra were not very popular in the UK, they had notion of being girls cars. Everyone had Japanese cars, it was like the peak of the imports.
I've never grown out of my chavviness and your C is pretty much my dream build for mine. I've still got my 1.0 Corsa Life I've wanted to z20 drop for years. She's a right little shit box. I've even contemplated starting a channel to see if there's any interest in cleaning her up and going through with it. It deeply saddens me that 20-somethings nowadays have no idea how much fun we had in the mid-2000's.
I know what you mean, and even now I think about doing it again - but in my adult mind “properly” (per your plans). Yeah that mid 2000 was such a ‘glitch’ in time, such good memories and making loads of friends
Totally agree. I have been lucky enough to own most of the super cars in the 80’s and 90’s so I don’t impress easily but now in my 70’s I have owned several Boxsters and love them! My latest one has a sports exhaust which sounds superb unlike some of them. The car still retains its ‘Boxster bark’. Which some of the sports systems drown out. Mine was bought with no history and a cat N but it’s one of the best and quickest that I have owned!
a few years late, but this only just came up on my feed. I knew your dad from VX club and did some TDs and Euro trips with him. Lovely guy and helped me as well when I was going through my cancer journey. All the best with the old girl, Silver is the best colour as well :)
I love my 97 Boxster. Fantastic ride! Recently the hand break does not engage (pull it up and it refuses to lock in that position). And of course without engaging the handbrake you cannot lower the roof. And the ignition key frequently gets stuck...after putting the key into the ignition it will not turn. Anybody have suggestions?
@@AK88onCars Like a little C8! No burnout needed or likely appreciated by the car lol. I've got a Camaro SS and Fiesta ST but next car is for sure a Lotus Elise SC, can't wait to feel the engine behind me!
@@Blas4ublasphemy We gained about 0.25 sec's and about 6mph from heating tyres from cold. Have a brake bias valve, so actually surprisingly easy. Nice, think it will surprise you how quick it is!
@@AK88onCars Awesome, I finished having my Camaro built and lost my father very unexpectedly the day before it's final inspection so I feel a connection to your build too hope you have better luck with yours than I did as it's on its' 3rd engine now and sitting broken in my mom's garage at the moment lol. I'll follow along and hope for your good luck with this cool car!
@@Blas4ublasphemy dude I’m sorry to hear about your dad. As you say, I know how that feels. Well on the bright side, your likely have more luck with Lotus reliability engine wise (as it’s a Toyota) and this engine in mine is going fine. Pulling it apart next Christmas anyway too. Best of luck and thanks for the sub! 👍
It’s not that simple. Wheel diameter and offset affects the intended scrub radius, articulation, steering and wheel bearing tolerance. Porsche never offered 19s as an option on 987 having enlarged the wheel well and revised suspension geo to accomodate
@@brightenupcc I mean principle its about rolling radius, if the radius is the same you'll not really going to have any effect to systems like ABS, transaction control etc. You'll have a different offset on the wheels if their wider, but honestly this is just about doing good enough maths. In terms of wheel geometry beyond that, in most cases it nothing that a proper geo will not solve. The "wheel bearings" point is almost an urban legend, in that things like road conditions, mileage and driving style will much more greatly effect wear to bearings - especially when the hub to outside wheel measurement (with the correct adjusted offset) should be no different.
Just watched this video from start to end and then saw the amount of subscribers you have! How can such a talent be so underrated. This is one of the coolest origin stories I have heard in a long time!!
I’d argue it’s for neither. It’s a great street car. Video touch on in this video (and my other videos/experience taking it on track), but unless spent mega bucks £££ and made it undrivable day to day - it would get beaten around any circlet by a 150bhp Lotus Elise.
Love the C, hard to find most of the Irmscher bits now. I had the Irmscher airdam front bumper as well with a mk1 Focus RS splitter on. Your B is very similar to my first car aswell, GSi front, steinmetz sideskirts and facelift rear bumper. R reg will have been a ph 2 sport rather than a GSi but both came with the 1.6 (ph1 sport and early GSi C16XE, Ph2 sport and later GSi X16XE). I had a few GSi's, 1 smoke grey, 2 caribic blue that I built a LET for. Myself and my older brother bought a B between us around 7 years ago as a bit of a project, now fully Opel GSi converted with custom GSi interior, steering wheel etc with an XE in. Thinking about putting a ZLEH in from an Astra / Zaf GSi as LET's are very hard to come by now! Love seeing the photos of old car shows when Vauxhalls were in their prime. We went to PVS one year in around 2012 or so and we had over 150 Corsa B's on the CorsaSport stand. Good times.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. Know what you mean about soft spot. I recently rejoined some of the Corsa C groups and keep thinking ‘maybe I could do it again properly’ but talk myself off it else I’ll end up with another 6 cars and no where to keep them 😂
@@AK88onCars The temptation of an Ultra Blue or Flame Red C with full irmscher kit and a LET/LEH is real for me as well. I'm the same as you though, no space! My only garage space is taken up by an MX5 atm lol.
Thanks for your comment and sure, but maybe check out some of my other videos (including the VX220 build videos) that include more details of engine, suspension, brakes and more done recently. But say if there is something specific you want to know(?) and I'll let you know
@@AK88onCars well i have looked around, I am planning to build a speedster too and i'd like to know approx what i'll need to reach the power you have on yours So far I know you have headers , lightweight flywheel, suspension upgrades and an lsd but I don't see much else mentioned ? Correct me if i'm wrong
@@bigmemer4398 power wise, it has a Z06 BorgWarner hybrid turbo, larger injectors, larger fuel pump, charge cooler, and an ECU remap (in addition to the parts you mentioned). The internals of the engine are yet to be touched, and I’ve had this set up for about 10,000 miles without any issue. Although this is the limit of save power you can run with a standard Z20LET engine. Does that help?
I’ve spent the last week trying to remember! I think they where called ‘DK Racing’ but cannot find any record. They really where like £110 from a friend that I kept for way too long. Buy Compromotive’s however 👌
Really enjoyed the VLOG, explanation and honesty really came across which is really appreciated, a very likeable personality came through the VLOG……really enjoyed it
Thanks for the comment dude, so on power curve etc, in the after hours section of the video I talk a little more on the map (with dyno graphs etc) which might address your question. Inlet manifold is a Courtney/Klasen one. There’s a video of that here on my Part 1 restoration video 👌
