We're back with Episode 2, suspension and brakes overall EVERYTHING! Restoring my late fathers (David's) VX220 Turbo / Speedster with 330bhp called Kipper. Dad bought the car brand new in 2000's which I'm restoring after he passed away in 2021 at the age of 68 years old. Remember folks - life's too short.
But we are NOT DONE YET!! Subscribe for more updates and content on this car and other cool car related videos. Thanks for watching.

Really nice and worthwhile project there mate! I saw it at TDI when I mapped my fn2, was in the corner without wheels but was amazed at how simple everything looked on this, not being simple obviously, just everything it needs, very nice car.

Thanks dude - ha, I know exactly want you mean "functionally simple". It is right small mind, so actually putting stuff on can be tricky sometimes! 😵

Great video. Those are some nice parts! :D Missing the part 3 (?). But I also want to know where you purchased the wheels from :) Looking at Motec but another model, but can't find a good site with correct hole pattern and sizes. Thanks

Thanks for your comment, part 3 coming soon! (Cars in the shop currently). So I purchased them from a German site, Regelin - Uwe I think is the name of the chap that runs it, very helpful chap 👍

Awesome videos! 😁Really well documented too. I hope you don't mind a question? (Or 20, I'm sorry) I'm personally tempted to pick up a Speedster Turbo here for sale locally, but I'm genuinely rather terrified by the (already) lack of part availability for these cars since they are so rare, and due to that am also considering an S2000 instead (which I see you've owned too). Would you say the (front) wheel and tyre combo would've fit fine without the new uprights, bump steer mods, etc., or was it pretty destined to rub anyways with a 215/45r17? And what are your thoughts on reliability mods for these cars? Also, is there a reason why you didn't go with a rear subframe brace? I've been finding horror stories about the rear subframes cracking with grippy rubber and rather enthused cornering. I am planning to do some agility competitions, so I'm afraid reliability in those aspects will be pretty key for me 😅

Hey dude - firstly, cheers for the comment and subscribe. Secondly, on the "parts" issues point, its really not too bad - as nearly all parts are either still sold my Lotus still or manufactured by third parties (for example, there's a company in the UK that makes brand new front and rear clams even!), the main expensive part to get are lights - but you shouldn't ever need an extra set there. Thirdly - to your question of 215/45R17 rubbing on the standard set up, I think the answer is - no. At worst, maybe run a 40 profile, but I think the reason I got scrubbing on a 45 profile was the aftermarket uprights. As I understand 215 on the front are pretty common on Speedsters more generally in Europe. On your question of braces, if you mean sway bars - already have them front and rear (but say if I've missed the point of your question). With all Lotus Elise platforms, rear tie rods should be changed (as if they go, you end up in a wall) but they are easy to change. Lastly - don't get a S2000 over a Speedster Turbo, unless you're planning commuting or unless the S2000 is already supercharged or turbo charged. But if you're planning on commuting, get a Boxster/Cayman instead, would be my suggestion😃

@@AK88onCars Thank you so much for all the info! Sorry last few days have been hectic, but no, I don't mean the sway bars for the brace😅 I meant this: www.regelin-performance.de/lng/en/opel-vauxhall/speedster-turbo-vxt220/suspension/subframe-brace.html It sounds like with sticky rubber and enthused cornering, the aluminium subframe itself becomes the weak link after reinforcing the toe links (which is probably why they engineered them so weak to begin with), so reinforcing it seems like a pretty good idea from my research. Maybe it's exaggerated, but a cracked subframe I wouldn't wish to anyone

Thanks man, although talking on RU-vid is kinda of a thing 😬 Cost wise, not cheap - but owing it being dads and a "forever" thing, normal economics go out of the window a bit.
