Hi, I'm Janine! I’m a photographer and a busy mom to a little boy, but when I have time, I love to share my photography with you through videos. I also create content about other things I enjoy, such as hiking, bushcraft, camping, homesteading, gardening and any other general life or silly things I get up to. The 519 is the area code for the part of Southwestern Ontario that I live in.
If this interests you, follow along to see my adventures in this part of Canada, and catch you on the next vid!
Odd to think you have 36? chances at a great photo on 35mm film compared to digitals endless numbers . "Film's results seem to be warmer. I appreciate both , just sometimes film's results are better, more human.
With medium format you have a lot less. This camera with a 6x7 size, you only get 10 shots per roll. So you really make those shots count (unless you have a lot of money haha) I have come to prefer film because of how it shows the scene. It has soul.
Good to see you putting out stuff consistantly, me and "Dock at Fife's Bay " are in awe of your stuff. If you like it'd be nice to know generally whats new . oddly I'm not on the relly's friends lists LOL ..
@@viewsfromthe519 Get that completely , saw Kerri at grocery store she was working but the look I got ended the idea of asking how you were . Take care
Thank you! & I completely agree. It’s so fun to load and shoot with this camera! I’m happy to have 12 shots instead of the ten per roll i have on my Mamiya RB67 as well
Really enjoyed your video. Nice touch having the textured paper background simulating a physical print, and great choice of music. Beautifully observed images.
Nicely put together assessment and demonstration of capabilities. I appreciate that you weren't trying to overhype a particular camera, as many pop camera channels have been doing lately.
Thank you! I shoot with many cameras and feel no need to hype up any particular one, as i feel you can take good photos with nearly any camera, once you learn it’s limitations and best use!
Great pics It’s a fad right now. Still just more pics no one cares about or will even see. Make it fun at whatever price point. Just remember, people were eating tide pods because of the same fads
We mostly use our phones but on trips I take our 2006 Sony DSC 93 camera. It takes the best low light , total darkness pictures of any digicam we've had.
The whole digicam / CCD craze is mostly driven by trend/hype jumping social media content creators. I am old enough (early 40s) to have lived in the film era, the early digital camera era, and obviously today's digital camera market. 90% of the people I know who are buying into the "digicam" craze seem to be under 35, and take the cameras out once or twice - then they sit on a shelf. Same thing has happened with walkmans, vinyl records, vintage computers, etc. What is old, is new again. Nothing wrong with this - it just is the same recipe for so much of the old/nostalgic technology. Soon as the majority of people who are new to the hobby experience the limitations, they usually abandon it or hop on the next emerging thing. I just feel sorry for the people overpaying for this stuff, only to have it gather dust on a shelf. A local antique mall has a booth someone is renting and is full of old digicams and the prices are hilarious. For the same price they are asking for a 4 or 5 megapixel beat up digicam I can buy something like a old (2009ish) great shape Lumix GF1 (I have two...) that produces fantastic JPEGs, is pocketable with the fantastic 14mm pancake lens, is modern enough to be fun to use, and interchangeable lenses. You still get the "feel" of a old digital camera - but with usable pictures and flexibility. I was at a local park shooting with my 2004ish Konica Minolta 7D digital SLR. It has a CCD sensor, but I don't use it because of that. I have owned it since new, and have a collection of A-Mount lenses for it. It still takes beautiful pics and I shoot it along side my Minolta Alpha-7 35mm film camera that uses the same lenses. Since both cameras are nearly identical it is a fun pair. I had a lady come up asking if the ol' KM7D had a CCD . She started oodling on about how "film like" the pics must be. I then showed her the A7 film camera. I then explained I am shooting both cause despite what people say - CCD isn't "film like." We had a pleasant long chat about cameras - and she was unaware of the ease of home film development these days. Long story short - I think she realized if you truly want "film like" images - just buy a film camera. It is easy these days. Why spend hundreds of dollars on a 20+ year old digital camera to get an approximation of film when you can spend the same money on a manual, old and reliable film camera from a good vendor (like KEH) + cinestill home developing kit + a bunch of film.
Definitely agree, I’m approaching my mid 40s, so I remember the limitations of those old cameras. I do enjoy trying to take the best photos i can with those limitations though. It’s funny to observe this craze - that people go for film like images, instead of just buying a film camera. I’ll admit, it can be intimidating to learn film on a manual camera, but it is so rewarding! Many younger film shooters complain of the cost, but no matter what, there is going to be a cost with the photography hobby.
I have prayed that God would let me see the aurora borealis with my own eyes - it was suppose to be visible as far south as Alabama - but have yet to see it in Texas - thanks for sharing!!!
Great video despite the gopro issues! 😊 I find it incredible a piece of tech designed in the 1960s continues to function flawlessly but something much more modern fails...😮 I've just picked up one of these cameras locally after a long search for one, so your video was very helpful and inspirational. I've added your channel, hopefully you'll connect with another retro film photographer 📸 😊
Thank you so much! I’m glad my video could help you! I thought of selling mine, but i hung onto it. I’ve recently picked up a medium format tlr (rolleicord) to try out. I love fully mechanical cameras!
My son and I camp year round and at least once a month often twice. We are going to Rondeau on my bday weekend coming up near end of May. People can make or break camps. I try to stay away as much as possible from busy areas but it can be difficult. Feel bad for you about loud music and noise and drones. Hopefully next time it will be better for you! My son and I are also camping RU-vidrs and film all our adventures, cheers!
@@viewsfromthe519 Excelent!!! If you get one, tray some time the famous Takumar 50 1.4. Better if you can cure it from the thorium with U.V. light... Even with it the GX85 gives great results!!!
I picked one up used at B&H some years ago, with the 12-32 and that longer kit zoom (40-150?). It was in mint, brand new condition. I paid considerably less for it then what a used one costs now without the lenses. Crazy, how those older Micro Four Thirds bodies are doing now on today's used market.
@@thedarkslide yes, second hand cameras, especially film and smaller digital cameras are going for dumb money! Only “cheap” cameras seem to be dslrs. No one wants those. 🤷♀️
I have been using m4/3 for over 12 years as well. I has an E-PM1, two original E-M1s and an E-M5ii. I have mostly Olympus lenses but for the Lumix 25mm f1.7. I have really enjoyed the experience and the results I get with this gear. I enjoyed your video although I’m not really a fan of POV videos. I hope your channel does well.
Thanks so much! I do a bit of POV because it’s all i really have time to do right now. I really love micro 4/3rds. The results with them are quite good!
Great pics! May I ask what kind of camera settings or filter did u use to get that kind of colours? Was there any post processing done to the photos? Thank you!
I shot them using aperture priority on f/8 i believe and 400 iso. I edit them in lightroom using a preset i made. It’s basically bumping up the contrast a little and making the reds a little stronger
@@danielwahlstromm.d.415 just play around with the settings and when you’re happy with how it looks, you can save it as a preset and apply it to any photos in lightroom
