Welcome to Game Dev Academy! I'm Shane and on this channel I share my knowledge of 3D modelling and game development with the world. There are tutorials covering Unreal Engine 4, Autodesk Maya, Substance Painter & Photoshop.
I spend a lot of time making sure that my tutorials are easy to follow and that they incrementally build your skills and confidence. I also read and respond to all comment so if you need any help then just get in touch!

At 11:45 my bevel goes outwards instead of inwards. Any way to fix this? I am selecting the corners, but instead of rounding it inwards it does it outwards if that makes sense.
Your title is a bit misleading... it's obvious that anyone with a student ID can download the software for free, but the way you wrote it makes it seem like anyone, regardless of being a student, can get Maya for free
amazing! I've been playing around with landscape painting, where I can select different materials to paint with. The way I've been doing that is putting several textures/normals into a single material and layerblending them together so i can select between them in landscape painting mode. Would there be any suggestion to be able to use this material instance from the tutorial, but apply it to multiple textures so I can paint? usually my landscape is a single plane, so being able to paint with different textures would be great! great tutorial, I learned a ton. thank you!
can you make a course for horror multiplayer games like (pecify) and teach us it will be more easy game to build since it horror games take less animation effots it will be fun to learn it hope you reply
You could do some some card game with summoning tutorial, there only few few games like this on market and its vry intresting. Great video btw! Keep doing this great job!
I know the license says "reuse allowed" but your video was copied on another channel and they cut out the credits/socials at the end -- they also cut out the part where you say "feel free to ask questions", like they didn't want people coming to them with questions or something :P ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fADdJvamlyg.html )
Hi! I found your tips very useful, can you please tell me how you'd mix this kind of work into a landscape painting? If I create this how can I also paint and mix different textures into this kind of work? Thanks a lot for your help
If I duplicate the book, how can I just change jusr the book cover color, dragging with mmb colors the pages as well Edit: Finally found a way! Right click on cover material and "select object with materials". Now the faces with cover material are selected. Middle mouse button drag another material to the book cover. All connected faces get assigned the material without overwriting the pages material.
@@GameDevAcademy I meant to change the colour after duplication! I have two books now, both are green and I want the cover of one to be red. How do I do that without selecting individual faces and assigning colours? I'm a blender user so there we can just choose one material instead of the other. So, how can I do that here?
Please keep going, this is really interesting. I'm thinking myself of starting a similar project and I've been watching the few resources available out there like yours. This is great
4:52 My multicut isn't working. It's putting a single edge instead of a edge loop Nvm.. it worked. There was probably some issue with my wall so it wasn't creating a whole loop. Also you can use 'insert edge loop' option from 'mesh tools'
That means there is an issue with your geometry. You probably have an unwanted extrusion in there somewhere. The best thing to do is to start the shape again.
"Lets face it day and night cycles are sick!" I subscribed. lmao as I type this I hear your name is shane in the video? Me too lmao but I spell it weird
You can do it too! Just do what I do. If you find this one tricky, I have another Maya tutorial that goes slower - find the link in this video's description.
It was a bit fast sometimes. how did you get to the material graph? in my case the connected settings looked different, even though i also used it from quixels. i dont know how to continue now
Do you know how to efficiently manage rendering/draw distance for open world "chunks/parts" ? i have terrain meshes with the dize of 31 507 x 31 507 meters and desired max draw distance to 45k, but some of my terrain meshes appear and disappear very strangely when i move by the world/move my chird person camera. The only "solution" i have so far is increase desired max draw distance to 150k, but that's very high value what you think?:)
