Hi!! So I just started self harming and I’ve been struggling with it a lot. My parents are strict and when they saw my first ever self harm scar (my mum did) she said “oh no I hope your not joining in with any of those SeLf HaRm TrEnDs😂” and it made me really upset. I hide the cuts on my wrist with a rainbow glove. I trust my dad with this topic more than my mum tbh. I was wondering if maybe I should message my dad about it since he’s a fifo worker and is currently at work so he has time to process it? I don’t know what I’m meant to do because I know my mum will just take my phone and electronics away, and will punish me BAD. Whilst my dad might end up telling mum or just getting made or upset about all the cuts on my wrist. I really need help on what steps to take, so they know it’s serious. Thank you❤ (my mum can be supportive but I’m afraid she’ll just get made at me for the cuts on my wrist)

“OK - I understand… is the crying helping you to feel better? (Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t)” “Give me 10minutes and I’ll call you” “But first, let’s get you feeling regulated and back in control of your body responses to the emotions :) what have you already tried so we’re not recreating the wheel?” “That’s amazing!!! Can’t wait to celebrate in our next session 🥳 “ “Oh no! That’s awful- did you want to talk?” One of the major benefits of being a counseling client of mine is that you can text, call or email me between sessions if you need an in-the-moment pep talk or gentle reminder you’re not alone. Something I like to do, and I guess this goes along with expressing gratitude for your body, is remember all of the things my body is capable of doing rather than what it looks like. Obviously there are things we can do to improve how we look. But what about all of the amazing things our bodies can do, regardless of how it looks? For me, it's my stamina with running and fast walking, with kicking butt on the rowing machine. Do I still have extra flab where I'd prefer not to? Yup. And yet, I am physically capable of a lot

If they ask about sewerside intentions or thoughts, is it okay to lie? I already am worried about going to a mental hospital for self harm, i have attempted 2 years ago and i have thoughts from time to time. But i do NOT intent to act on them. Can I tell a therapist about a past attempt ( happened more than 2 years ago), I still sometimes have thoughts but I have no intention of acting upon them. I'm already scared I might get hospitalized because the primary reason I'm starting therapy is self harm. I'm a minor and if I got institusionalized I would be with adults as there's no mental hospitals for teens or kids.

I realized people's views on other people are based on their own views of themselves. They think, If I act in this way then the other person will act in this way. We view the world from our own frame of reference but everyone's is different and we have difficulty understanding that.

As a psychiatric service dog handler/owner One thing I would want any one who is considering a service dog of any kind is your going to get a LOT of attention more than a lot of people are comfortable with. Two be aware of people who abuse the service dog system especially for PSDs a lot of people will go register a ESA/emotional support animal as a PSD and think that they can now bring their ESA in place's that doesn't let ESAs in their store so be ok with potentially seeing untrained dog and trust me when you have heart rate problems it will rattle you when all the sudden a dog is lunges at your dog. But don't let me change your design on what treatment plan you and your provider feel comfortable doing. I just noticed that nobody really wants to talk about that stuff but it is very important to consider that side of having a service dog

🔥 SAVE THIS FOR LATER if you ever feel like people see you differently than you really are 🌟People's image of you often has less to do with who you really are and everything to do with who they need to believe you are. I’ve always been someone who wants to help out and be part of the team. Back in the day, when I was handling a lot of responsibilities, I thought I’d do something nice-I offered to help my group with some extra tasks since I was ahead on mine. 💔 But instead of being grateful, a few of my peers got upset. They thought I was bragging, as if I was trying to show off. It really hurt because all I wanted was to be supportive, just like I’d want someone to be for me if I were struggling. After talking it out with one of them, I realized something important: their reaction wasn’t really about me-it was about how they were feeling about themselves in that moment. Though I never would’ve gotten there if I didn’t stay curious, kind, and open to talking with them. 💡MY HUGE LESSON: when you’re clear about who you are and what you value, it becomes so much easier to navigate situations where others might misunderstand you. If you’re figuring out who you are and what matters to you, I’ve got something that might help-a guide I created called the UNCOVER YOUR TRUE SELF GUIDE, and it’s totally free!
👉 COMMENT "CONFIDENCE" below, and I’ll show up with more helpful lessons in your feed
 Quick Question: How do you usually handle misunderstandings? A) Talk it out immediately B) Stay quiet and let it go C) Seek advice from a friend D) Overthink and stress about it ✨ P.S. I’m also working on something special to help with overcoming struggles with negative self-talk-stay tuned!

Yes! I love hearing that people will listen if I ever get that courage to speak about it. I used to get nervous (and still do) to tell people I wasn’t currently self harming. Like they wouldn’t believe me because I’ve had people push and push trying to get me to say things that aren’t true. All of your advice on ANYTHING is super helpful and your energy is super contagious! Thank you so much for this.

@mallorygrimste 12 дней назад
Yes!!! A tech security company expert once recommended taking the first letter of each word in a phrase and make that your password- so “I got this” would turn into igt (insert numbers and special characters accordingly). I do something similar where I take the current positive belief I want to reinforce in my brain and turn that phrase into my password using this strategy. Even though I’m not typing it I still have to think it to remember the letters. Awesome tip!!

I am so so so scared of telling my parents/friends/therapist. I have a history of bad mental health and one of my friends attempted and was send to a mental hospital and I’m really scared that if I tell people I attempted like three times and that I used to SH that they’ll just send me there. I have a therapy session in September and I want to muster up the strength to tell my parents and therapist then. Thank you, this video helped me a lot and now I have a view of how to tell them. I don’t even think you understand how much this helps me. ❤❤

It can take 6-8 coping skills to match the relief you seek from a problematic experience.

I’m a mental health therapist and these are 6 Coping Skills I saw Simone Biles use during the 2024 Paris Olympics.
 🏅 ENCOURAGEMENT Simone was seen mouthing the words “You got this” to herself before one of her events. 🏅 CONTRIBUTING Simone was often seen encouraging not only her Team USA teammates, but also her competitors from other countries. 🏅 MOVEMENT She took time to stretch and move her body before, during and after competitions. 🏅 PACED BREATHING Those deep breaths in and out help calm the nerves and improve focus for stressful events. 🏅 COMPARING This is coping strategy that often gets a bit skewed. Simone nails it- rather than comparing her progress and performance to the others in competition (which the judges are already doing for her), she focused on the progress of her own performance in competition. 🏅 MEANING The 2024 Paris Olympics held special meaning for Simone. She has shared how important it was for her to perform as an older gymnastics athlete which helped give her deeper meaning to competing in these Olympics.

🏅DID I MISS ANY??

I never feel safe about telling my parents about suicidal thinking cause number 1, they say, quit being over dramatic, or they say, where are you getting this from, instead of, why are you getting these suicidal thoughts? And I’m over here like, why are you worried on how I learned this when I need help? I’ve texted 988 before and they helped… kinda, my doctor recommended it to me. Yes I’m still a teen, not telling you my age, but uhhh yeah.

Best of luck to you! And if she refuses or calls you crazy, you've got LOTS of other options besides the one you mentioned 😉 One thing I remind everyone is the teen years don't last forever, and at some point you'll be in a position to obtain your own therapist without parent permission if they're not receptive now. Plus there are crisis lines, self-help resources (like the free videos on this channel), and other supportive helpers like school counselors. While they don't replace therapy, they can be excellent supports along the way. You got this!!
