What is the bandwidth of the displayport connection on the headset? Dp80? Uhbr40? Displayport 2.0? Displayport 2.1a? The pimax crystal super would pair well with the upcoming Nvidia 50 series Blackwell GPUs. And those are expected to arrive with display port 2.0 at minimum. So I'm curious to see what bandwidth limitations will exist with this kind of setup.
My guess is that they probably use a high quality image interpolation filtering (Like Cubic filtering for example). And/OR an algorithm similar to AMD FSR-1. If it was DLSS or AI they would had said it loud.🤔
I think the stuff about focusing on depth more than breadth is interesting after the 1.0 update, which deviated pretty hard from this philosophy, resulting in a luke-warm reception. A lot of barely fleshed-out mechanics were added, and core issues like non-existent AI were left behind. Over 80 skills or something, but all they served to do was detract from the physics-based combat. Still a fantastic game though obviously.
They didn’t really detract from the physics-based combat though cause a lot of it was for melee weapon upgrades besides the merges and basic t1 spells for the 3 elemental skill trees (not counting the imbues but if you do it also adds to the physics based combat more) They said that the npc ai was filled with spaghetti code and is too hard to work with, I’m guessing their next game will have better ai
I'm rooting for PCVRs success. I currently use a Quest 3 for PCVR but I am highly interested in a Pimax Crystal Super next year as an upgrade. I never played Blade & Sorcery but it looks great and I've added it to my wishlist.
Hope on release, that the Pimax Super Micro Oled will get a bump in: 90Hz to 120Hz and same Fov as the Qled version of 130. And I do hope the Oled will be as bright or more than the PS5VR2. 🙏🙏
You are absolutely right. VR, AI. DOCSIS, BlackWell, the Cloud, GPU intensive video cards, and more are changing the world. Microsoft already knows it. Most the others don't. But the almost total conversion to self-controlled POV is going to fundamentally change people's lives. Microsoft intends to knock people's socks off in November, and it will be a giant eye-opener for everyone. You guys at Pimax are pretty much ready.
Pimax, I am rather annoyed. I ordered the light (without controllers) on may 3rd. Local dim version. I have just learned today through "simhanger" that i will need controllers to set up MSFS. That to me is ridiculous! Other than setting up 1 game, i would never use controllers. So, go onto your site, and there are no controllers available!! I am furious. Then, i go onto your live chat, on a weekday, and no one is there to even talk with. I only play MSFS. I play no other games. And not one youtube reviewer has mentioned you need expensive controllers to set up MSFS. And not once mentioned on any Pimax video nor website. This is not a very enjoyable experience Pimax. What can be done here?
Graphics cards seem to be falling behind. Even though monsters like the 4090 exist, they still do not implement a chiplet (ryzen-like) design for desktop/games probably due to latency issues similar to the ones with crossfire/SLI. We are ending up with cards which cost way above $1k, even $2k and they are still using DP 1.4 - absurd.
I have rarely seen a company communicate this clearly and honestly, this was perfect. I currently have money saved up for a VR upgrade and will be waiting to see how the Crystal Super comes along, keep it up Pimax, you guys are great.
Let's revisit this, shall we? Sony released the PC adaptor for the VR2 last week. All the reviews shows the PSVR2 trouncing the Crystal in everything except resolution in SteamVR games. That includes contrast, black levels, brightness, and MOST IMPORTANT COMFORT. I have the Pimax Crystal original ($1700) and I absolutely hate how uncomfortable and heavy it is, and local dimming pales in comparison to true blacks from OLED. Resolution is great but the picture only looks good for bright games, when the scene is dark it's really still grey which is annoying. Pimax never wants you to know that when you set local dimming to more aggressive levels, it dims the overall picture by design. So need to you choose between a bright picture or a picture that is dimmer with slightly better (but still far from perfect) blacks.
As a Pimax Portal owner, I'd love to see one last update to Android beyond 10 for Portal users. I understand this may not be possible with the budget and employee restrictions. I would be willing to pay for a crowdfunding option. Same with additional control sticks. One with a cross Nintendo style dpad and one with a sega circular dpad and six face buttons Sega Nomad style on the other controller. Maybe a third option for vertical usage. Maybe some dust flaps to protect the controller ports when nothing is snapped in and a book case for reading. Please consider the crowdfunding and if it meets the goal, great. If it doesn't then you have an idea of demand. No other handheld has a 5.4 4k display and you have the bones of a great product with some obvious issues. I'm not sure about community response and I understand there will be frustration among some but it's better to have some options than none at all. If it costs money to keep the Portal alive, let's do it. Then that becomes paid research and hopefully positive PR for the Portal 2 if there's enough demand. If not at least we can finally get a solid Portal 1 device.
You said dual dp 1.4 won't work for the 12k, does that mean you adopted it for crystal super? As you mentioned 1.4 is barely enough for the crytal/crystal light?

I have left 2 tickets with Pimax support and I have received 2 notifications that no one is at their desk. No one is on Discord for Pimax. No one answers Pimax chat except to tell you to leave a ticket. This product and it's creating company are far below acceptable.

This is going to be awesome, but will there be a 120hz upscale mode? I want to be able to use this on the Crystal Super when it releases at 120hz. Combine this with Foveated Rendering and it will be really good!
I am considering buying Crystal Super when it comes out, but I am concerned about the accuracy of its controllers. Can someone tell me how accurate they are, compared to the Quest 3 controllers? They are very clear and the crosshair does not float in Pavlov VR for example, this problem was in Pico 4 and I sold it and bought Quest 3. And I would like to see perfect tracking on the Crystal controllers.
All sounds good but since we cannot see any difference in your video, it's hard to know how good it actually is. Maybe some through the lens videos would be useful.
Wait - is Outer Wilds a VR game?!??! Hey Pimax, please let us know when the original Pimax Crystal will be restocked. I am trying to choose between wired Crystal Super and WiGig Crystal wireless because I really appreciate the wide FoV of my 8KX but would love auto IPD and big sweet-spot while waiting for the 12K. Also, I think you should keep a (downscaled) wireless ability for the 12K when you make it.
Yep, tons of flat screen games have decent VR mods. Outer Wilds have one of the better ones: not only 6dof vision, but also motion controlled hands, holsters and operatable tools.
