how youtube convinced me to delete tiktok 

I’ve been off tiktok for almost 3 years now but I get a similar experience with instagram. No matter how hard I try, I always get these really hypochondriac health posts and reels suggested to me (like these completely normal ailments may be related to this RARE DISORDER!!!) and no matter how hard I try to guide the algorithm away they always somehow come back. And what gets me is I don’t even follow any accounts that post that kind of stuff! Where is it coming from!! I hate it and I hate social media so much I’ve had to put a time limit on them so they can’t get to me as much because it can be so distressing!

I deleted it and sometimes redownload it for some of the same reasons your explained but I never regularly have tiktok on my phone

This is so spot on! I've noticed my attention span has dramatically decreased since using TikTok as well.

I still use tiktok but i think im one of those people that just cant get addicted to it - i browse sometimes and open it up to check videos from my very addicted to TikTok girlfriend but thats pretty much it! And im glad you pointed how this comment section acts because i read other comments and its always nice to see how kind people are here c: and as a person who pointes out sound issues on the last video it took me a while to write the message in the nicest way possible so you know its not being negative and criticizing and that im just trying to point out some random tech issue. Thank you for a very interesting take! I don’t have TikTok myself so I have no idea how it would affect me. I had the app for a week or so years ago because my friend kept sending me cute animal videos, but I didn’t understand how the app worked so I deleted it. The past two years I’ve had a job where I’m not allowed to have TikTok on my phone so I don’t really know what I’m missing out on. But honestly, most people I know are not on it either so I believe that’s reason why I don’t feel like it either.

This was a great video. One doesn't come across content creators who're willing to be as honest and open as you're being here. You're also quite well-spoken and funny, and crucially you speak from grounded reality, and sound like a real person - which is delightfully refreshing on this platform. I hope you go on to see great success on here.

I get the segment about the negative stuff. I like a lot of the stuff on Tiktok. I love finding new vegan recipes, seeing people create art, people talking about the books and movies they like, the list goes on. On booktok I found some people who have a similar taste in books who posts regularly about said books (There are a few on here as well but they don’t make a lot of videos about said books). But I dislike a lot of the news/political stuff on Tiktok. I have seen so many misinformed takes and Tiktok kept showing me radfem/terf/swerf content no matter how many creators I have blocked and clicked on not interested. I also hated the comment sections which were full of hatred and bigotry and it reminded me so much of Twitter (an app I absolutely hate) in the end that I deleted it.

I understand completelely, personally as a beauty content creator I only use tiktok to post not to interact but to post of my niche. I think theres a side of tiktok call booktok that maybe would be positive for you as a book content creator, it could be a tool to promote your book as well. I never had social media as my ab**er wouldnt let me. She thought i would find a better person to be with. I would always hear people talk about facebook and twitter and just thinking about it would stress me out. I cant imagine social media nowadays. I only started commenting on youtube videos this year.

honestly im gonna finnaly do it and delete tiktok. ive known i probably should for a while now and this is the final push i need. since i agree woth everything you said. this made me a thinka bit and i noticed a lot of the problems you talked abput started around when it became mainstream and stoped being considered cringe. what youtubers do you suggest to help keep up to date on topics? i dont trust the mainstream media much right now with everything thats happening.

Nah idk what people are talking about when it comes to IG comments because I have gotten the most PETTIEST comments under my TikTok videos that get like a few hundred views after a day. One person got mad at me for still living with my parents 😭😭😭 and they lied about their age saying that they're able to "support themselves", but you can tell by their spelling and username and pfp that they're just a kid 🤣🤣🤣

I agree so much, i never had tiktok but seeing how mean people are on instagram reels i cant even imagine what is going on on tiktok, i think these people would make me cry (btw i love your videos!!!)

I've never used tiktok but one thing ive noticed in the last 2 years when i have gotten a new phone tiktok is pre installed to the phone already like why does it need to be on every phone it just seems weird

I can never stay on TikTok for more than a few days for some reason hahah after that I just forget the app exists LOL
